  1. I really wish the MAC would settle on a provider rather than bounce back and forth between ESPN and CBS. I pay for ESPN+ to watch the Zips as much as possible and it aggravates me to have random games bounce off to another network where I am forced to either: not watch; pay to watch; sign up for a trial that I then have to cancel; or download some non-Google store app to watch an unauthorized feed stolen from the net by some Russian hacker.

  2. Just announced this morning, I saw it on D1 Ticker. His contracts ends June 30, 2021.

  3. I guess the seedings are already set in stone. The MAC tournament schedule has us as a 3 seed playing Bowling Green as the last game on Thursday. Here is the link to the other seedings. https://getsomemaction.com/tournaments/?id=145

  4. The MAC Tournament bracket has been released. While there are still some uncertain seedings, the MAC has set UA/BG as the #3/#6 matchup. https://getsomemaction.com/tournaments/?id=145 The Zips beat BG convincingly (69-57) at BG on January 19th. BG returned the favor at the JAR on February 26th, beating the Zips 83-71. BG had an awful mid-season swoon, dropping 6 straight, but has recently played well winning four straight before dropping an OT Game to Miami on Tuesday. Hopefully, with the Miami game not being played, the Zips can use the 9 day break to get their legs back under them for BG.

  5. And Toledo plays Ball State tonight and turns around and plays them Thursday at Noon. Maybe Buffalo would have an advantage playing Miami? But Miami, as the 12th seed, beat them in first round last year. Groce is 2-2 in the MAC tournament for the Zips. The first year he put the team together on a fly, and I thought they played well in the tourney in 2018 (they beat WMU on the road in a crazy game) but couldn't hold on to it it vs. EMU. In 2019, they easily beat Miami in first round then unfortunately because of some late season losses ran into the unstoppable Buffalo in Cleveland. I like the Zips odds on the neutral court where the Zips got to play earlier this season.

  7. Just to see this makes me kind of happy - like the MAC believes the tournament will be played. Don't much care who wins between Kent/Buffalo but happy one of them will be in the opposite bracket with Ohio and Toledo. Of course if the game isn't played that really upsets the bracket. Of course BG could certainly pull off the upset and make everything else irrelevant but even with poor play recently I still like the Zips chances. Let the Ohio Invitational tournament begin. 🙂 If there in any justice/karma from last year the Zips win this thing!

  8. Nice to see you other guys picking up the slack with posts. 😉 Hopefully the recent wins are a sign of better things to come.

  9. So, just to clarify, the Zips will not wrap up the regular season Friday night at 7 at the JAR Friday night.

  10. I’m hearing it’s Akron with Covid, but they are not being shut down and will play next Thursday. It must have been contained to one person/living space. We’ll see what details follow.

  11. I think Libby Harper is injured.

  12. George Van Horne only knows the Akron way because he has only been an Akron guy. I love his loyalty, but as many have pointed out, the Akron way has most often been the wrong way. I agree with CK...

  14. Are there enough donors? Is our fan base large? If he knows the changes that need to be made, why haven't they been implemented? I like George. He's always been very good to me, and is definitely a "UA Guy." But does 2021 UA Athletics need a "solid" choice, or a "great" choice? We have botched pretty much every AD hire since Mike Bobinski. You could make a case for Mike Thomas, but the JD Brookhart hire wasn't a home run to say the least. We need an up-and-comer from a successful upper-G5 or scrappy P5 school. Someone that won't screw up basketball and soccer, and will elevate football. Someone with fresh ideas and a plan to get football on track that can be directly attributable to his/her work in a similar previous situation. I can't blame Williams for bowing out. 2021 is a lousy time to become a G5 AD. But we are an FBS football school with a great stadium and practice facilities. A winning basketball program and a top 10 soccer program. That has to be very appealing to someone talented. But I have faith that we will hire the wrong person. We always do.

  15. Correct me if I'm wrong but he's basically been the only constant here through all the years of mediocrity?

  16. If he is that good, I wonder if we are just a placeholder.

  17. I'd have opted for shutting down two weeks ago so that I didn't have to watch what we've seen in the last three games. It will be one year on Saturday since we were last in the JAR. Sigh.

  18. Hopefully, they will look to Van Horn to take over the department. He knows the donors, the fanbase, the community, and certainly knows what changes need to be made. He would be a solid choice.
