I think the script Akron is fine and okay in some applications. Works on the front of basketball jerseys or occasionally on football helmets. But it shouldn't be a primary logo when we have really cool logos to pick from. I don't think any school, or professional team, has a main logo that's just their name except for Ole Miss. It just feels generic and amateurish.4 points

Like everyone else, Irons was the real bright spot IMO. Whether it was a mix of starters or pure 2nd stringers, I thought he was impressive. He is definitely the future and should be the present. Watching Kato attempt to run the offense was tough. I was surprised Norrils was the main back over Williams, but I thought Norrils looked solid. Arth has spoken highly of him this year and now I understand why. Curious to see how Williams looks playing at our level of competition. WRs were fine and its tough to get too much of a gauge on the OL. Kickers looked good. The new punter (Slike) booms it. Its a welcomed change compared to what we've dealt with the past few years. On defense, nobody stood out on the DL. We couldn't generate any pressure. Boateng is a nice upgrade next to Bubba. Nobody in the defensive backfield made any plays either. The game was what we all expected. At least there seems to be some hope at the most important position and we didn't get shut out. Temple is the real gauge next week. It appears to be a winnable game.2 points

Congratulations to whoever had the idea of changing to an amateurish non-football logo for the football team in order to take the heat off the amateurish football team and their D-3 coach. #GoTeam!2 points

Kato is so bad. To be a dual threat, you actually have to possess speed. Their DLine is faster than Kato. To boot, he doesn't even keep his eyes up field to see if a receiver gets loose. Did the check clear yet?2 points

All-American Punter. Kato talks a lot for a guy who is in his 6th year of DI college football and still sucks. Him being a Captain doesn't bode well for the state of the program.2 points

We've had some really good conversations on here with fans of other teams who have come on to discuss their teams and ours. Those are types of discussions we could use more of around here so I am more than happy to hear from people with other allegiances or concurrent allegiances as they help lead to a more diverse discussion than the same old rah-rah go team stuff. As long as it's not trolling or reiterating the same old obsessions, I am more than happy to hear it. Go Zips!2 points

preseason number 3 Pitts comes to CubCadet Field on Labor Day to start off a huge week (pre-season number 2 Indiana on Friday) https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer/college-national-top-100/men Pitt started their season with a 7-0 win over Duquesne. As BigZipGuy shared with us, Pitt lost to West Virginia On Friday night, Pitt beat Lehigh 2-1 as you can see in the link above, top drawer soccer thinks that Pitt has 3 of the best 7 players in college soccer. Midfielders Veljko Petkovic and Valentin Noel are the 2 guys that Akron will have to stop Monday night. Pitt also has a defender that was selected for pre season All American team1 point

It looks like LCJ's next stop is in the A league in France. https://www.chorale-roanne.com/saison-2122/roster-pro/loren-cristian-jackson/1 point

can you please post a link to an article that shows that the game will be on regular big ten network? https://btn.com/shows/ when I go to their site and key in September 15, their site tells me that they will show volley ball at 7 and campus eats at 8. unrelated, I sure hope that the University is lining up buses to take a lot of AK Rowdies down to Columbus. Akron needs to have a lot of fans in Columbus for this game. Soccer in Ohio......belongs to the zips. Fan support needed to help the hard working players get a big win over the Buckeyes1 point

UCLA tried putting University of California Los Angeles on their helmets, but decided not to because it wrapped around the entire helmet in a font too small to read from more than a few feet away. LSU had a similar idea, but elected to go with the acronym when nobody at the school could actually spell Louisiana.1 point

Hey guys! I got a little curious after the game about what you guys were thinking about that No.2 QB. He looked pretty good to me. I read through this thread and what I found was a bunch of fans who have a ton of pride and love for their school. It was very humbling, tbh. So often us fans at bigger programs get caught up in the wins and loses and forget to love our school. Your Zips looked to be all class on the field last night, and your coach never quit doing his job. I wish the Zips nothing but success this season and I’ll be rooting for you to win every other game. Including the upset of the century at OSU! War Eagle and Go Zips from the Auburn family!1 point

Was the plan to allow Kato to take Auburn's 1st Team hits, allowing DJ Irons the opportunity to stay more protected against the 2nd teamers? 13-13 speaks for itself no matter what level of the SEC depth chart you're facing. If Kato starts next week, Arth should be fired on the spot.1 point

I think most D3 schools actually have logos. We look like a low budget high school. Even Bishop Sycamore had a logo.1 point

A generic script from a Nike catalog. Congrats to whoever thought this was a good idea. This is worse than when the basketball team decided our school colors were silver, blue and black for like 4 seasons. Giant mistake and horrible decision. Embarrassing move by a Division 1 school. Anyone think we could get a petition or something going to get this changed? I remember when Michigan State tried to modify the Spartan logo and the fanbase nearly rioted.1 point

Good point & I agree. I love the "Z" logo and the script "Akron," Sort of like the Indians used to have Chief Wahoo as the primary logo but script "Indians" on the front of the jersey. I would like to see the "Z" somewhere. I especially liked it on the helmet.1 point

Not sure what is worse. Our football team or the fact that the school seems to have completely abandoned all of our Zips logos and branding. I think we're just called the Akron now.1 point

Bo Nix opened the third, so it's probably just second string. They're not that much worse than the first string that it should be this stark a difference. Maybe finally a little glimmer of hope.1 point

Well. First-half summary: 12 BBQ wings 1 large Romeo's pepperoni & mushroom pizza w/ extra sauce 6 Bell's Oberon's 2nd-half prediction: 2 more Bell's Oberon's. 1 Qt. Handel's Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie. I suppose grousng over poor Zips football is the very definition of First World Problems.1 point

That's the problem I see. Once he pulls it it's 100% a run. He doesn't generally scramble to extend the play. Not gonna work against a top shelf SEC team. Bring on Temple!1 point

You can root for the Zips, and still be realistic. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Go Zips.1 point

The Zips are a 37 point dog. They have 3 seniors on the roster, only one of who may play (beside special teams). They have over 70 Fr and R-Fr on the team. There is no competitive advantage by holding back the 2 deep. I have been critical of the coach at times, but I have also tried to support Arth. He is making it harder by the day to see the positivity in the program. Now, an upset today would erase all of the wrongs that have been voiced here. Let's go David!!!1 point

Going off 35 year old memories, I believe Akron’s first “major” D1-A opponent was Auburn. I was watching it on Channel 55. The cameras panned to some Zips fans in the stands with a sign that said “Just let us score.” Probably just as applicable a sign today. Auburn 59-0.0 points
