They may be aware of us, but that doesn't necessarily mean they value us as the brain-trust to help them pick a coach. George Thomas - "So Charles, what was your deciding factor in finding Clyde Kadittlehopper as your head coach?" Charles Guthrie - "Man I really liked what LZip and clarkgriswold had to say about Clyde while I was surfing ZnO last night, so I took a flier and gave him a call..." (No offense to you two, just picked names off the screen)3 points

I don't think I've watched a group of guys struggle this hard to score since I went with my friends to a bar back in college2 points

And while they are at it, hire back that laid off history professor who was the expert on New Orleans voodoo and the Salem Witch Trials and beg her for mercy.1 point

For all the Trimble talk, which is important, Castaneda and Walton have to contribute. Castaneda looks to just be going through the motions without creating much. Walton has been completely invisible this week. That one is shocking to me, he’s been a productive college basketball player for a long time and his archetype fits in on this roster perfectly. It’s just not there. This is all just baffling. Maybe my expectations were way too high. I don’t know. But I’m quite upset right now.1 point

Really? This early, you know how they looked vs. the Suckeyes, don't quit yet....1 point

Amen on this. Akron basketball has been my escape from the other garbage teams I watch (Browns, Zips football, Guardians/Indians). At least the Cavs are fun to watch this year. I can only hope I'm getting too low after the optimism I had from the game in Columbus.1 point

I agree . I just feel like putting names out there for eyes to see can only help. I definitely think that some higher ups in this decision are very aware of this forum.1 point

Way out rebounding as well. The baskets will happen...keep the defense up.1 point

I didn’t think it was possible, but there are fewer people here today.1 point

Looking at the search from a different angle... who would the AD already be familiar with from his own past that could be a candidate here?1 point

Last time we were looking for a head coach the name I liked most was Joe Harasymiak, who made Maine a national player at the FCS level. I don’t think my mention of his name even got a comment in this forum and then he was quickly grabbed up by P.J. Fleck at Minnesota where he has since become the co-defensive coordinator. His currently salary is only in the mid $300k range I believe. Should this be someone the Zips at least look at? Everything I have ever seen written about his coaching had been extremely positive.1 point

Zips are 28.5 underdogs, so I think Vegas agrees with @GoZips86. Tempting to take them, but I should know better.1 point

I think there may be less complaining if the game had been on ESPN plus for free. However, many of us spent $30 to watch this tournament and expected a Zips team that was ready to compete. Also, I stated during the Wheeling and Point Park thread that those games were a waste of time and did nothing to prepare the team for the season. This game seems to prove my point.1 point

Ceiling is indeed high ... but not "SO HIGH" because this team has yet to prove it can be a good 3-point shooting team, especially in the second half. In todays game of basketball you have to make 10 3-s a game to have a shot at a power conference upset and more likely 12 ... and at least 8 3s to get a solid road win in MAC play. Shy of that, you better get a ton of steals and dominate the glass night in and night out. The defense is capable of getting the steals, the rebounding appears solid but not dominant. But it's the 3-point shooting that will likely be the difference between a 1-2 MAC team or a 3-4-5 MAC team. My opinion.1 point

There wasn't anyone w/in 10 feet of him & no one was making the slightest effort to slide over to guard him. They wanted him to shoot the ball. I don't care how athletic Tribble is, that's a massive liability. I'm surprised he gets so much PT.1 point

The Zips have one or two of these a year. Deep breaths folks. In reality, none of these games matter down the line as we all know only winning the MAC tourney will get them in the tournament.1 point

Disagree, this is worse. VCU was a good team that played pressure defense against an undermanned Akron squad. What is our excuse in this game, the arena is too big?1 point

This is an embarrassing loss. As embarrassing as I can remember under Groce. Complete opposite performance from what I watched vs OSU.1 point

Kudos to Kent's head coach for running out the clock the last 35 minutes. It could have been 78-0!1 point

The gold versions of our uni's are always my favorites. But I wish you hadn't said that, now I can't unsee the wife-beaters. Lol.1 point

This is perfectly reasonable and what I'm hoping to see. Next year: Solid, fundamental, well-coached football with much improved defense. Few blowouts to MAC opponents. Competitive game with Kent. A few impact transfers. Year 2: Close games, some near misses, .500 in the MAC. Beat Kent. See noticeably better talent on the field (both OL & D-lines, LB crew; the ability to both run the football and stop the run). Year 3: In the hunt for MAC East championship, competitive games, see us actually blow someone out, bowl eligibility, beat Kent. We just need to win. Win, win, win. Stop the losing. I'm a diehard and even I'm getting demoralized to the point of becoming indifferent. Caring about Zips' football has not been a healthy exercise in a very long time.1 point

Great football acumen. Would be a great recruiter in Western Pa. Might stay a while, with his family being so close. Great leadership skills. Would pique the interest of a lot of scorned football alumni. MACC QB. He's a home run if we could get him.1 point

I really appreciate his pressers. Good stuff! Very insightful and zero coach-speak. GT: "Is Gibson going to be starting?" Coach: "Yes." Love his comment about the fact that Kent's D is likely going to struggle no matter who the DC is due to the way they play offense (D's gonna get tired). We witnessed that with Bowden in his first year. Liked his analogy of the Mexican boxing match. Lol. And when GT asked about the current situation... Coach: "I've had cancer twice. This is nothing." GT: "How are the players doing..." Coach: "They're young & many don't have the life experience to know how to handle this properly. That's not their fault. I'm working to show them how men handle their business." All paraphrases, of course. Great stuff, Coach Rodriguez!1 point
