  1. I am in the minority but I really enjoyed the game. First, the refs let them play. Very few whistles and very few foul shots. Both teams missed the front end on a one and one at crucial time. Very physical game. Because the refs did not blow the whistle, a lot of bumping and grinding. Although the Zips were the smaller team in both stature, weight and muscle, they won the battle of the boards. The Zips worked really hard on defense. When an Eastern player was about to get an offensive rebound, Tribble climbed his back and prohibited from scoring. They forced Eastern into a bad shooting night We won another close game. How many Zips team have failed to close a game. We just closed 2 close games in 5 days. Finally, a decent crowd. A first for the Zips season, a line in the men's room to take a leak!!!

  2. We desperately need talent and depth on the OL. This would be a huge get

  3. When I looked at the stats from last nights game 2 things stood out. First, all of the starters played 30 minutes or more with Ali playing 38 minutes. Although somebody commented the Zips looked exhausted, I did not see anyone on the court that looked tired and their defense was intense the entire game. These guys are in amazing shape. Second, Trimble went 1 of 9 from 3 points land. If he would have shot his average of 30% this is a different game. Unlike Kent, this team won when Trimble was not hitting his shot. Further, Trimble had 5 rebounds. I do not remember a game where he has rebounded that well. That just shows me he is a very coachable player and listened to Groce about getting on the boards. Finally, Groce on the pregame indicated that Clark has been fighting through an ankle injury. Obviously, he has not contributed this year like we expected but maybe it will get better. I did see he was active on defense last night and had a couple of nice double teams in limited minutes.

  4. This did not age well. Apparently awful, low-scoring games are just in EMU's DNA, no matter who the coach is.

  5. Last time I checked, a win is a win. Students go to bars, everyone wins. Go zips.

  6. I'm not giving back the win but damn, this is one of the most frustrating Zips hoops teams in recent memory.

  7. Offensive rebound - how do you not call a timeout/get the ball into the PG's hands? I hate Ali iso.

  11. Nothing posted anywhere confirming, but based on likes and what not on Twitter I think we’ll be pretty pleased with this one.

  12. I was at the game. I thought it was a gutty performance from a team running on empty, or,nearly so. Get some rest and take it to CMU!

  13. Olivet was an exhibition game. Their second win was against PCCC in Kent, so they have been able to do something this season that the Zips were not.

  14. I guess a fugly win is as good as a blowout in the standings. It's best to just tuck that away somewhere, and hopefully use CMU to get back on track.

  15. Agreed and this is disappointing to me. During the years of X1.0, LCJ, Cheese, Banks, etc., I thought the program took great strides in the off-seasons with strength & conditioning. Disappointed to see most of the guys in this group the same size as last year.

  16. I wasn't expecting as much 2-3 zone as we saw. I thought that was buried with Rob Murphy. That always gums things up

  17. I'll still take a frustrating 5-2 team. Always seems to be an ugly game against EMU. I can't remember the last time I saw an EMU Akron game and thought wow that was really a beautiful game. 😂

  22. One of the ESPN3 announcers just mentioned the "enthusiastic, large crowd." On the screen, it looks like many of them are dressed like empty chairs.

  28. I’m late but isn’t this a UA message board lol are you guys fans or what it got pretty negative and dark in here have some faith in your team they found a way to win. That’s what helps in March, a team that never throws in the towel.

  30. You and I have a different definition of "wrong". What you call "wrong" I call "common sense". Incase you haven't heard we're in the middle of a surge that is cancelling games. It's literally a program insulating itself from further disruption. It's a slam dunk no brainer; just from a program standpoint, let alone public health standpoint. Sorry your personal enjoyment is more important than public health. Good lord man, you're an Akron Alumni, please be better and more reasonable than this.

  32. The Zips visit Mount Pleasant Tuesday to play one of the few teams left with a native American team name. The Chippewas are dismal 2-12 and haven’t played since January 11th. Jermaine Jackson Jr. leads the Chipps at a mere 11.4 ppg. Ralph BIssainthe leads rebounding at 7.1 rpg. Their two wins are against PCCC and Eastern Illinois. In their last game on January 11th they lost by 31 (99-68) to Eastern Michigan.

  35. This is wrong on so many levels. Makes sense, though, given the funding connections between Big Pharma and Universities. Has the CDC included college basketball in its COVID mortality statistics yet? It has been all but dead and extremely hard to enjoy since March 2020.
