Some people just like to look for things to complain about. I only made it to a couple games this year. I had to wear a mask all of maybe 2 minutes each game I attended. Not really worth complaining about2 points

That arena literally is the JAR, just with more complete & modern seating. I believe you could modify the seating in the JAR to pretty closely mirror the Samford arena, while maintaining the character and atmosphere of the JAR. I hate the concrete corner spaces in Sanford's arena; it looks weird and "commuter-ish". Get some engineers in there (I thought we had a good Engineering program?), Move the corner doors to the middle, directly behind the baskets. Wrap the lower level seating around, adding corner sections where the doors used to be, and proper end zone seats on either side of the basket. Remove the track, and bring those seats forward. Convert every seat to be decent quality chair backs, and let's get back to rocking the JAR.2 points

@dre22era Exactly - like you said- except for the empty side I love UMBC’s arena. Extend the seating around it’s entirety and that would be perfect in downtown. Additionally, I’d bet the U & city would want to encorporate some loges into the design.1 point

Give me this in Downtown Akron I live 10 minutes from UMBC. Knew an assistant on the staff that upset VA in the NCAA Tourney who is now on that same staff at Utah State. Opened in 2018 i have attended many games including my son attending basketball camps there the past 5 years. Aside from the empty side I love the layout. 4,654 (basketball) 5,500 (concerts) Wild how that arena looks much bigger than the JAR but seats less Also there is an auxiliary gym/practice court in the basement. UMBC is a 13,000-student university1 point

Slow news maybe, but at least there is enough excitement and anticipation for football to still be talking about it during the "dead" period.1 point

To follow up on Jermaine, he is averaging 12 ppg and almost 9 rpg. Impressive season. Coming off 17 & 16 pt performances, too. Good for him! Give me the JAR over that arena, minus the lack of bench seating. I like the JAR for college basketball, just get rid of the track.1 point

And 23rd or 24th. Hemric took 9th while Haley spun out on the final lap; prior, he was running 12th or so (top 15 at least). Bummer we didn't have 2 top 15 finishes, but this continued the moment carried over from a solid performance at Daytona. There was a good amount of air time given to Hemric and Kaulig Racing as well. Being connected/invested in an entire team in NASCAR is fun. Oh, and I was able to take back control of my 65" TV. I had my 2.5 year old daughter clapping for Hemric & Haley, and she said, "Go Zips!"1 point

I remember Lebron being at a Buffalo game for 2 reasons. One, a Buffalo player dove for a ball and ended up on Lebron and he helped him up. Probably the highlight of that guy's college career. Second, Bobby Hurley was their coach and went crazy after a call and the ref gave him a T. Lebron almost fell down laughing at Hurley's antics. Always fun to watch Hurley going crazy.1 point

Just out of curiosity I was checking up on how Jermaine Marshall is fairing at Samford. Anyway, knowing we desperately need a new arena, check out Samford's beautiful facility. Only 5K but gorgeous (I remember KD saying he'd want an 8K facility). Would be beautiful across from Canal Park. Samford's Pete Hanna Center Samford has this but we have the JAR? The JAR blows. EDIT: This isn't the greatest facility in the world, but I just throw this out there because even this facility at Samford is a palace compared to the JAR.1 point

It needs a track and some glass rails. Those upper seats are way too close.1 point

The Polsky building is well used. They are planning on remodeling the Main Street entrance for retail and restaurants.1 point

Who does Juwan Howard think he is, Woody Hayes? It’s February 23 – so go throw a chair in honor of Bobby Knight. Football rules: Is the NCAA thinking of changing the distance a member of the kicking team can be off-sides before they call off-sides? Why is a ball carrier deemed to have successfully entered the end zone when any part of the ball carriers body or the football touches a goal line marker which is located completely out of bounds? Why is sideline encroachment the only rule where teams are given a warning before they are penalized? Is it a violation of the rule or not? Why not give a warning for the first violation of roughing the passer or targeting?1 point
