  1. To roughly quote Ricky Bobby... With all due respect, and remember I am saying with all due respect, the idea of not putting your best staff on your top 25 soccer program ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on.

  3. PAYWALL WARNING: https://theathletic.com/3635348/2022/09/28/middle-tennessee-miami-football-unlv-jmu/ Great little blurb on "fixing the MAC" Mentions that when you think about it, MAC teams, many of whom start 1-3 because of how they schedule, sometimes only get to have their home fans tailgating on Saturdays 2-3 times a year tops due to how the schedule works out. Specifically mentions how the big rivalries MUST be on Saturdays. It isn't just MAC fans that see this stuff and understand it. Smart minds in the college football media see the MAC killing itself year in and year out, and we've seen it fall far from where it was a decade ago.

  4. I'm not sure why comments go to Chad Welker and not Charles Guthrie. Sorry, but I don't share your seeming worship for the guy at the top. He's making some good decisions but he's also floundering on others. It's a tough job, and no one is perfect, but he should be able to respond to warranted criticism as well as praise.

  5. AKR 1-0 DUQ FT Zips grind out a victory against a quality side. Arguably the best performance so far this season. Pretty even the first frame; Zips got most on the ball in the second. Shout out to Captain Willie Jax for a really gritty shift at CB!

  6. Who knew it was so hard to follow a ball with a camera! It’s like they aren’t even trying.

  7. I saw one weather projection early this morning that Hurricane IAN may be entering southern Ohio early Saturday morning. Uncertain of the rate of the storm moving at that time. If it is true that it gets to southern Ohio, we are unsure if it will get to Akron by game time. Let's hope that the game stays dry and a major storm does not occur during game time. Go Zips!!!

  8. At least in college it’s only a 15 yard penalty. In the pros you can intentionally remove a guy’s head and only get 15 yards. But maybe…maybe not…judgement call…touch a wr’s elbow on a 50 Hail Mary and you get a 50 yard penalty.

  9. "If" you can find the space key after a comma your post will be readable and not like a graduate of PCCC. Sorry, that was pretty low. No one should suffer that indignation. 😁

  10. I really like Tavari. Aside from being from Chicago, his play style reminds me a lot of LCJ

  14. One year ago Blake Hester ran wild on BG…20 carries for 120 yards and 2 TD’s. With the stagnant running game the Zips have put forth thus far, does Hester get a shot at another romp through the BG secondary this Saturday? He hit the holes hard last season…but struggled with ball security. If he’s going to see any action beyond special teams this year, you’d think it would be against the Falcons.

  15. It’s not my type of tailgating but $3.00 Rhinegeist and a free t-shirt isn’t a bad deal for Joe Akron.

  16. Deandre is in the starting lineup tonight as the USMNT plays Saudi Arabia. it’s on live now, on FS1 and will be replayed at least once late tonight.

  17. I’m going Akron by 2 scores, but I have nothing to base on outside of my desire to see this team take the next step forward. I don’t know what to think of Bowling Green’s non-conference slate except their defense had a hard time stopping anybody. - It seems we found a solid combo on the interior of the DL with Harper and Thomas, but they have been the only ones to get any type of pass rush from the interior, outside of Wilson. Will Holt play this game? If so, what will he give us? - Jones and Morton are the only edge players with any type of pass rush, but it hasn’t been consistent. Johnson has stepped up against the run. Will Richardson be slotted here whenever he returns? - I’d like to see more of McCoy and Bubba together. Those two guys were flying around and laying some hits last game. I hope Terry comes back soon too. - Hooks seemed to play well against Liberty, but wasn’t tested much. Safety play has been much better and needs to continue to improve. Hence and Lewis had some coverage busts from the Nickel spot against Liberty. Where has Golden-Nelson gone? Durant has been hit or miss in coverage. - If we can’t get some type of run game going, I’ll be concerned. Whigan looked good as a puller and I wonder if Landers will steal some snaps at LT. - As long as we get pass pro cleaned up against the stunts/twists we should be fine. We had receivers running free the majority of the game against Liberty. Irons either did not see them or chose to make the more difficult throw. Not practicing much during the week probably played a part in that.

  18. How AWESOME is it that the only member of the current [USMNT] group with World Cup experience is a Zips Men's Soccer alum?!!! USMNT promise "different intensity” in World Cup prep vs. Saudi Arabia ... Veteran fullback DeAndre Yedlin, the only member of the current group with World Cup experience thanks to his breakout showing at Brazil 2014, acknowledged as much. He, along with many others on this month’s roster, needs a solid showing to give himself the best chance of making the final cut. “Naturally guys are going to be nervous,” said the Seattle Sounders product. “Naturally guys are going to know what's at stake. But at the end of the day, it's making sure everybody realizes that this is a team, you know what I mean? When the team performs well, everybody does well. “We all love each other here,” added the Inter Miami CF defender. “And we're all trying to obviously make this team, so yeah, it's down to crunch time now. Obviously guys can have anxiety or whatever about making the squad, but we just need to do what’s best for the team.” ...

  19. World Cup foundation: Canada get "final"-level test vs. Uruguay ...If Buchanan isn’t risked on Tuesday, Hoilett is a reliable veteran who can link play and provide a bit of cover in midfield if Canada stick with their double pivot. Alternatively, Richie Laryea is a dynamo on the right and can provide extra solidity at the back. ...

  20. You're right, and I didn't mean to come across as harsh, just stating the fact that Bubba is the only play who's ever won more than 2 games in a season with the Zips. It has to take a psychological toll.

  21. Sounds like the ABJ had both Michael Beaven and George Thomas asking questions. Big step in the right direction (if this isn't a one-time thing).

  22. TB's words come to mind - step 1 - lose big step 2 - lose small step 3 - win small step 4 - win big I think we're about to move on to step 2 for a while, and to step 3 (consistently) by the end of the season.

  23. Zips win. JoeMo can out coach the MAC when the talent level is close. BGSU may have a bit more talent at this time but I think we pull one out

  24. Well said. Different sport, but there were a few people complaining a lot about the MAC Championship basketball game. For those reading who made not remember, this is when Akron defeated Kent State by the final score of 75-55, with Sincere Carry doing a dance for the camera after making a 3ptr. while still trailing the Zips 34-33. I think Akron committed 7 fouls in the game, and forced approximately 65 turnovers. Kent fans openly complaining about the foul disparity when the Zips simply didn’t foul, they played excellent defense. It happens sometimes.

  25. If I was the Haslams right about now I'd be second guessing my purchase. I have watched three Crew matches on FoxSports Ohio and have been appalled by the fanbase who made such a fuss about saving them and staying in Columbus, only to see more yellow seats in the stadium than ones filled with real live fans. I was assured by Columbus fans that the fanbase would come out in force....where are they? Right now watching vs. Portland, and that's the best you can do Columbus? The entire upper deck is empty, and other than about 50% in the middle, the last third of each end is empty on the bottom....What gives?
