  1. Beals isn't listed on Marshall's website. He hasn't even been approved yet by the BOG. There is a special meeting 1/5/23 at 9AM though, most likely to address this and probably approve a contract. I hate this is happening to Akron. If you've ever seen my posts I post 99% of the soccer portion of the board and should know Ive always rooted for the Zips in soccer except for when playing the Herd. I do hope all of those who have committed to Akron stays a commit. Ive always hated seeing someone follow a coach somewhere when a coach moves even though most kids commit to the coach and not the school. You should be in good hands with Coach Donnelly he was at Marshall as an asst for 10 years from 2006 TO 2016 and recruited a lot of Marshall's best players in that time.

  2. The resilient old man moves the Dukes to 13-4, taking down a 10-4 VCU team 79-70 tonight in Pittsburgh.

  3. Or Jelly Bean Bryant...Pork Chop Womack...Refrigerator Perry...Coy Bacon...Turkey Jones...Truck Robinson...The Juice Simpson...Honey Badger... If I was a decent P5 player I'd give myself a cool marketable nick name and watch the dollars roll in. Forget the old "school and team" garbage...monetizing yourself is what college athletics is all about.

  4. David Jester (FL) is coming in for an official visit this weekend. Rivals has him rated as a 3 star WR, but he played S his senior year. He’d be a great pickup on either side of the ball. Hudl film linked.

  6. Joining the AAC would boost our budget by $8 million a year. That pays for a lot of charter flights.

  11. Wow, how can we already be 15 games into the season? The Zips head to Muncie Friday night to face the 10-4 Ball State Cardinals. Ball State started the MAC season with an impressive 90-83 win at Toledo. This matchup features two of the MAC's top big men in Enrique and Payton Sparks. Sparks, a 6'9" sophomore center, was named to the MAC's preseason first team and is averaging 13.1 ppg and 7.7 rpg on the season. He is one of 4 players on the BSU squad averaging between 13 and 14.5 points. Scoring is led by 6'4" sophomore guard Jaylin Sellers at 14.5 ppg. 6'5" junior guard Jarren Coleman is the second leading scorer at 14.2 ppg. The team is led by their new coach, Michael Lewis, previously an assistant at UCLA. The Cardinals were predicted to finish fourth in the MAC pre-season poll. They played a pretty weak OOC schedule. The game is at 8:30 p.m. on CBSSN (grrrrrr).

  12. I would imagine charter flights would be utilized more often.

  13. Not any different than any other coaches contract. Even though he was not making the same $$ he made at OSU, the $95k we were paying him made the 4th highest paid coach in the MAC. Guthrie has put a lot of effort into the baseball program. We are now back to the full scholarship level and the silly rule about only recruiting from Ohio has been dropped. Beals knew exactly what he was signing up for when he put his name on that contract. He and the Marshall AD are just scumbags. At the end of the day UA is financially better off than when he got here after he pays the buyout.

  14. The biggest hold up on the practice facility has been the HVAC. The chiller has been on order since early last year.

  15. Yes, Marshall become a Sun Belt member on July 1, 2022. The 22-23 season is Marshall's first year in the Sun Belt. Marshall is getting ready to ramp up construction on a new stadium, that is going to be about 50 years overdue. Jack Cook who coached at Marshall from 1967 to 1990 was promised a stadium when he took over. Even Marshall has their detractors. Some still ask why Marshall actually needs a stadium. I just point to Hoops Family field, Marshall's soccer stadium and say "Thats why". Those same people thought giving a program who had 12 winning seasons from 1979 to 2012 was dumb. Well in 8 years that stadium with the right coach produced a national championship. Im not saying baseball can do the same with a title but with a coach that knows what they are doing plus a new facility to do it with then Im positive Marshall can have more than one winning season in 16 years.

  23. Nice win by the Zips over the Bobkittens this evening. They might be part of the "Ewing theory" whereby you play better after the loss of a star player. Excellent team ball tonight.

  25. In the minority here but I think a renovation and reduction in seat capacity would not only help with aesthetics and it will make the JAR seem like it's drawling more people in than it actually is.

  26. I'm going to need to see the math on travel costs only doubling. Are you asserting, for example, flying the baseball and softball teams to away conference games in the AAC would only cost twice what it costs to bus them to away conference games in the MAC? I'm not sure you can prove that.
