Huggins may or may not be a drunk. Huggins may or may not be a homophobe. Huggins may or may not be an anti-papist. What can't be argued is the inescapable conclusion that he's really really stupid to say something like this in today's world.4 points

This is actually getting fun to track. Reasons why it's okay for Huggy to say bigoted things in public: -players listen to profane music -justin thomas called himself the same word under his breath (and lost his main sponsor?) -golfers indirectly get money from saudi arabia (?) -snoop dogg was at a Kansas event -a barstool guy got fired for saying the n word (this might be a reason to fire him though? I'm confused on this one) -AM radio guys thought it was funny Great entertainment today either way3 points

It's one thing if he said this twenty years ago and it's just surfacing. You just can't say that on live radio in 20233 points

Are these bands/rappers paid millions to be their coach and represent their university?2 points

I imagine the thinking with Kindred is to eventually have him push for the RT spot, but gotta figure he will be one of the best 5 OL and be slid inside to one of the guard spots this year. If that’s the case we probably see something like this: LT = Landers LG = Kindred C = T. Williams RG = Davis RT = N. Williams Maybe Kindred and Davis would be flipped, depending on what coach JRod wants. The above lineup would certainly rival any other OL in the MAC in regards to athleticism. I’m also curious to see what Ben Frank gives us. It can take lower level OL transfers a while to get acclimated, so who knows? I hoped he would arrive in the spring and get ahead of the curve. My best guess is Long and Bowen did not qualify. We’ll probably see them take the JUCO route if they choose to continue playing football.1 point

These things have nothing to do with each other. You're grasping at non-sensical arguments to defend the indefensible. Huggins said something really ignorant. He was wrong. Period. We can debate if he should lose his job or not - that's fine - but he was wrong for what he said and any consequences he receives will be because of his own doing.1 point

The defense on display at the 2023 Spring Game is probably a 20% precursor of what we'll actually field in the fall. So excited to see the influx of mature D1 talent over the past few months!1 point

looks like we beat out at least BG and Liberty, and maybe Temple since he entered the portal. Nice job supplementing both lines the past few days.1 point

The PGA isn't accepting Saudi money. It's actually quite the opposite as Saudi money is being used to fund Liv Golf, which is a direct competitor. One can argue that the consequences of his actions might end up being too severe, but I don't see how anyone can defend his actions. What he said was completely inappropriate and he was in the wrong. He deserves to be ridiculed.1 point

The coaches are paid to win, and the players are paid $100k+ to do the same. Let's not pretend that "representing the university" is some righteous objective anymore. Kansas had Snoop Dogg perform during one of their preseason exhibitions, and he brought stripper poles & money guns onto the court. Alabama's best player was associated with a murder in which he provided the murder weapon, and was never even suspended. Listen to the songs played during warm ups, and Google the lyrics. If representing the university in an appropriate fashion was an actual objective, at least half of those songs wouldn't be played. Yes, and a popular figurehead at Barstool was recently fired by the parent company Penn for accidentally reading the N word as he live-read rap lyrics. I'm well aware of the status quo when it comes to being politically correct and caving to the cancel culture mob. The PGA sponsors disciplined Justin Thomas, while the PGA accepts Saudi investment/sponsorship money, where it's illegal to be gay. Hypocrisy. In fact, research the companies that Saudi Arabia has invested in. What's more offensive - a gay slur or doing business with a country where being gay is punishable by death? That's why this is an overblown controversy IMO. Huggins didn't physically harm anyone or commit a crime. And those who are offended by this are probably talking about it on a Saudi-funded platform (i.e. Twitter/Facebook). Here is a good illustration of the hypocrisy within the cancel culture movement.1 point

To his defense, he was probably pretty lit when he made the comment.1 point

Not at the 0 or 1 tech here, but man! I’ll happily take this kind of play.1 point

I totally agree! In talking to some of the baseball families from MAC schools, the past few seasons were tough because after only half the season, most of the teams were not in the running for anything without a tourney. Now they need to earn it, but as you said, one bad game or two doesn't keep them out.1 point

If I was good at photoshop, I'd photoshop Ali in this. A day later and I'm still stoked. Akron is returning 4 out of their top 5 scorers from a team that was 2 minutes away from knocking off a really great UCLA team. Castaneda is gone, but Freeman is a more polished post scorer than he was then. This team also has significantly more depth so I think we'll see a much more aggressive style of defensive play. I'm not sure I've ever been this hyped in the offseason for an Akron team.1 point
