  2. Really feel happy for the team. I've played on some really good teams and some really bad teams. When you're a part of a bad team getting a W like this validates all of the work you've been putting in. It reminds you why you are up at the crack of dawn and getting in your lift, reviewing film, taking extra reps, sacrificing your social/family life, craming in your studies during odd hours of the day. And don't forget rest and recovery. This victory will have a carryover effect for the program. Maybe not this year (Tough to see another win on the schedule) but hopefully in the off-season. Regarding the game: I love it when I read that people hate the play calling when we lose and love it when we win. I did see some minor adjustments (12 personnel already mentioned) but it was mostly the players making plays finally. Once Kent's WR went out the game flipped. Kent Sucks and will always Suck Go Zips!

  3. If anyone thought the Kent game didn't matter, and that we should play the Freshman because we need to see who can contribute next season...they were clearly incorrect.

  4. Those people over at the PCCC website are now starting to refer to our fine institution as Summit County Community College/SCCC. I should have copyrighted/trademarked PCCC and all derivatives and "Mr. Pinky" years ago!

  5. I always like this quote from Danny Ainge - "It’s not a coach’s job to give opportunities for everybody. To me, it’s a player’s job to make that coach feel like he needs you on the court (field) to win — because every coach wants to win.” Wasel and Jennings apparently haven't shown the ability to lead the 2023 Zips or they'd have started by now. I was surprised to see Undercuffler starting. After his voluminous turnover parade, who knew he was capable of playing a clean game turnover-wise, let alone leading three TD drives in the 4th quarter. But I guess Joe did...and he was proven correct. I'm ecstatic about the Kent win, and I've never wavered in my support of Joe, whom I am certain will turn the Zips into winners. I respect the hell out of the effort put forth by the Zips on Wednesday. But playing 1-7 opponents, at home, can make for some deceiving stats. It will be interesting to see which JU shows up against Miami. If he could play a clean game, we could win. The defense took their already-respectable game up a notch once they saw the offense finally put up some points. It's the offense's turn to ramp it up again.

  6. Prime might want to talk to their defensive coordinator, their offense is averaging 32 points per game - not too bad.

  7. I just pulled up my DraftKings account and realized I had Undercuffler at +550 to score a TD in the game. As usual, I had big money on it, a whole $5! Made $32.50, and no I am not buying!

  8. Honestly a weird move. OL and defense as a whole are by far the biggest issues on that team. Can't wait to see Shurmur fall on his face again.

  9. PCCC's loss was so disconcerting that it bled over to Colorado where Deion has yanked play calling duties from Sean Lewis! https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/colorados-pat-shurmur-to-take-over-play-calling-duties-as-deion-sanders-buffs-look-for-spark-per-report/

  11. I was there and although I was certainly ready to leave several times, I stayed and am so glad that I did. It’s been so much fun reading this board since last night vs every other game this year. My god we are an easy crowd to please, a win over a 1-7 team and we are walking on the clouds! And for the record, I’ve been to two games this year and I’m 2-0…just sayin.

  12. That was the version of JU I thought we would see this season. Limited in some of the throws he can make, but serviceable enough to get the job done. It was nice to see what the offense could have been this year, especially during the 4th quarter. I’m not sure when the last time was that we had a 100 yard rusher, two 100 yard receivers, and no turnovers. The inability to gain a yard running the ball during the series in the 3rd quarter could have been devastating. The 4th down run checked into the blitz was mind boggling. Gotta give credit to the staff for continuing to go back to Lingard. The more chances he receives, the more likely he is to break one. He had his most touches all season with 22 rushing attempts and 2 receptions. Also have to give credit to the staff for adjusting this week and playing the majority of the game out of 12 personnel (2 TEs). That’s something we haven’t seen much of this year. Kent’s lack of talented depth eventually caught up to them. Our DL dominated the 4th quarter and the OL was finally able to lean in the run game and also give JU more time in pass pro. The receivers made plays, but Gathings still talks too much. We were fortunate on a few occasions flags weren’t thrown. Terray Jones probably had his best game of the season and the personal foul call (which of course ended up in a score) was weak. Freshman Marcus Moore was also really good. He did not start, but played a starter amount of snaps with 35 total. Lama Lavea did not play. Nice job by Wiley making the extra points and field goal. For the incessant amount of talk throughout the broadcast (I usually don’t listen) about lack of a kicker, he came up 100%. That’s the best way to stamp out that kind of talk. Tough final 3 games, but who knows, maybe this win turns out to be the spark that lights the fire. QB - Undercuffler (Bullock) RB - Lingard (D. Anderson) (Kellom) WR - George (Norton) WR - Gathings (Anderson) (WR) - Walker (Golden) (Adams) TE - Banks TE - Newell LT - Chambers LG - Frank C - T. Williams (Georges) RG - Lyons RT - N. Williams (Kindred) DE - Nunnally (A. Smith) DT - T. Jones (Carter) DT - Robinson (Moore) (Murphy) DE - Adler (L. Jackson) LB - Fish (McCoy) LB - Cooper (McCoy) (Griffin) NB - Lewis CB - Tallandier (Golden-Nelson) CB - Durant (Golden-Nelson) S - C. Thomas (KJ Martin) S - N. Thompson (KJ Martin)

  13. It's about opinion, not correctness. We'll never know how the youngsters would have fared against Can't. Does this mean JU is now the man for next year? I admit it's a little scary that the successful HS QB's we've recruited are still too overwhelmed to take snaps in a bottom-level MAC game.

  14. For those Zips fans who follow both soccer and basketball, Flosport will be broadcasting the Cayman Island Classic. Also, they will be broadcasting the Zips game tomorrow night at Xavier for the Big East quarterfinals. If you sign up for the month of November for $30, you can watch both Zips soccer and the Cayman Island Classic for one price.

  15. Lingard said he'll be back? As a player? Or back on campus to make sure future RBs are as jacked as him?

  17. Really don't know how Gathings didn't get flagged over and over. After he baited the Kent player into throwing the ball at him, Gathings went to Joe on the side and said give it to me again. He was motioning that he was in his head. They didn't show it on tv but when he lined up he was waving come get me to the defender and missed the snap of the ball. Undercuffler threw it to his spot but because he was late off the ball he didn't make it there. Also after he scored, the coaches got on him for taunting again. He threw the tire off when they put it on him and started yelling while sitting on the bench. I don't know what got into him but he was on the verge of being a psychotic all game.

  20. 2023 GLCA is a winner. But I think 12 Dogs of Christmas is a notch above. Better spice additions, better body, just a delicious beer. I also had a Munsterfest from 3 Floyd’s that I thought was excellent. I love Octoberfests, and I think theirs is better than Great Lakes or Sam Adams. I need to try both of them by the fireside rather than freezing my a$$ off in Lot 9. But I don’t think I’d change my mind.

  21. Remember, unfortunately we'll be playing again at arguably the worst stadium (if you want to call it that), in the BigEast, Corcoran Field...but you're right, we need a win, and an early score will force the Musketeers out of the ship's hold.... And by the way, the match is on 11-4-2023, not 11-5!

  22. After watching the game with Hubby from a little warner climate than it looked on TV, we couldn't get enough of the comments on this thread. So great the passion, the admission of doubts (I would have gone to bed at the end of the third period if I hadn't just poured my third glass of wine!). Today we went rogue on went on the Kent State message board, and a) It doesn't hold a candle to ZipsNation and b) what a bunch of crybabies! Made for some great reading....

  24. It would sure be nice if the offense could continue where they left off and keep it close with a chance to pull off the upset. I'd still expect MU to be favored by 13 or so.

  25. The color analysis last night made some great points and it all has to do with coaching. 2nd and inches, 3rd and inches, 4th and inches, put the quarterback under center and have him sneak it or have him give it to a back. Has anyone watched my hometown team the Philly Eagles. He also indicate that the passes Cuffler was attempting were 30 yard passes for 10 yards in that they were on the sidelines on the far side of the field. He indicated that a coach should make it easier on his QB with shorter passes. Finally, use Lingard as a receiver out of the backfield. He is a good receiver and can make yards after the catch. It also allows Cuffler to get rid of the ball quickly.

  26. If I were to take a poll, I would bet that every Zip on this board was waiting for Undercuffler to throw an interception on that last drive. He threw some nice balls in the 4th quarter and needs to get credit for this win.

  27. I will say, after waiting so long to find a place to talk Akron football (not sure why I couldn’t find this place for so long) it is really cool to celebrate a win like this with all you fine folks. It may not be a national championship but by God it feels amazing all the same. Cheers to the Zips everywhere!

  29. And at least all the degenerate gamblers taking the over on 3.5 wins for Akron still have a shot. 😊
