Just anecdotal but (as far as I remember) I've only ever seen two Zips TRUE FRESHMAN point guards really make legitimate impacts: Jimmal Ball & Noah Robotham. So I'm tempering my enthusiasm for a true frosh PG. But I'm excited to see him play & stoked he's a Zip.5 points

I wasn't a D1 athlete so went to Malone College to play college baseball. While at Malone they and Walsh (their rival) had a yearly event that was pretty cool. To kick off the beginning of each basketball season they'd invite two teams to town, let's just say Team A and Team B. We'd have doubleheaders on Friday night and Saturday night. Friday night's doubleheader would be hosted at one of the schools and then Saturday night's doubleheader would be hosted at the other school. If Malone hosted first, the first Friday night game would feature Walsh playing Team A and then in the nightcap Malone would play Team B. The next night, Saturday, the games would be at Walsh with the first game of the night being Malone playing Team A with the nightcap game being, of course, Walsh playing Team B. We'd have a lot of fans from both teams attend both nights. Two good games two nights in a row. You get to see your team in early season action. Plus you get to see how your biggest rival looks & imagine how the rivalry games might play out that year. It was always fun. We should do that with KSUcks. We also need to renew our home-&-homes with Cleveland State. Get a home-&-home going with Duquesne. Continue the MAC-v-Sunbelt Challenge. Tell the MAC we & Toledo want a home & home every year. Get a couple games/year with Big East schools, who you'd like to think would be more willing due to our soccer affiliation. Of course these would be on the road, but maybe our soccer buddies would throw us a bone & give us some 2-for-1's away/home? We could play 2 BE teams on the road & have 1 at home.3 points

I don't see how the league doesn't suffer from this. Sure, the league will get it's share of transfers and some kids will end up staying but I can't imagine it will even out. I wonder if some of this isn't driven by these kids' need to "feel the love" and be recruited again. One positive is that it puts the Zips in a good position relative to the competition. I do think the Zips may be behind the others in announcements, however, due to their tournament appearance. Groce's individual meetings with the players are likely still sinking in with them.2 points

Anthony Pritchard (CMU) has entered the Portal. That means the entire All-MAC First Team is currently gone, and only one Second Team member is set to return. No Honorable Mention team members, 2 Third Team members, and 4 Freshman Team members are also set to return at this time. Still a month left of the Portal. To be fair, the MAC sucked last year. This might be addition by subtraction in some cases.2 points

I don't want to be around that stench more than I have to be - which is already 3x every year it seems.2 points

With the way SVSM has swallowed up the neighborhood, the area near the school is pretty safe. Certainly no worse than the area surrounding UA.2 points

I wonder if Dru would be more open to scheduling home and homes against Akron. Low travel costs and decent OOC competition.2 points

Good for Dru. It's a gamble for a bb program in a multi-bid (more often than not) conference to take a flier on a guy with zero HC experience...but what do they have to lose? Worst case, they wait another 47 years to get into the tournament. I'd rather take my chances with a guy like Dru than dig up some HC retread that had marginal P5 success. Wonder what the future holds for McNees and McFadden?2 points

Credit to the Bowling Green web site......for informing their fan base......about spring soccer.... Akron soccer SID......appears to be in hibernation.2 points

There are over 1100 players in the portal currently for DI according to Verbal Commits. This is not isolated to the MAC or even G5 for that matter. Only 5 MAC teams had a winning record this year - Akron, Ohio, Toledo, CMU, and Bowling Green. For comparison, the A10's 9 seed had 20+ wins. It was a pee poor year for the MAC. Of the winning teams, Toledo is losing their coach most likely, so their departures are expected. CMU and Bowling are the head scratchers, but then again it's CMU and Bowling. Anybody worth their snuff on the court probably wants to play anywhere else but Mt Pleasant, MI, and Bowling Green, OH. Graduations will hurt the MAC more so than the Portal probably, and I think there's a good chance the influx of talent from recruiting and the Portal (eventually) will be better than what we saw with the MAC this year top to bottom.1 point

Pretty sure Akron nor Duquesne will be playing on an aircraft carrier anytime soon1 point

I was skeptical of Tahj after the 2nd game when JoeMo hadn't yet let him throw a pass. He'd trot Tahj out there and of course it was a QB 'sneak.' After the 7th QB sneak I was thinking, 'By now you do realize this isn't catching anyone off guard anymore, right JoeMo?' 😒1 point

It's downright paradisiacal compared to the part of town Hoban's in 😂1 point

I will never be able to root for Duquesne, regardless of who is coaching there. Especially after this past season. But hypothetically we can ignore the school. To me this is no different than if someone like Getsy or Frye went to coach some random Sun Belt school. If they had success, won bowl games and conference championships while the Zips continued to be mediocre. Would I be happy? I'd be jealous and pissed that it wasn't happening for us.1 point

Antino Jackson made a legitimate impact at the end of the 2014-2015 season. That is when the winner of the Mac got a double buy and it was Buffalo coached by Bobby Hurley. Antino Jackson started the last 10 games and played really well at the end of the season and we won Monday at the Jar, Wed at Cleveland and Thursday at Clev against Kent. And then Hurley did something smart, he pressured Jackson full court knowing this was our 4th game in 5 days and he shot 1 of 10 and we lost by 12. We just ran out of gas. I remember that game and thought KD should have had somebody else bring up the ball to save Antino's energy.1 point

KJ Jefferson would be a recent name everyone knows and a comparison stat wise. In no way am I expecting that kind of leap, but what a threat Bullock would be if he could at bare minimum hit the easy throws and not turn the ball over.1 point

@catdaddyp or anyone on ZNo, Tahj looked so out of his depth last year. Have you ever seen a QB -who looked as overwhelmed as Tahj did- ever make large enough strides to become a lynchpin D1 QB?1 point
