  1. Hi everyone, I am new to this site and I needed to vent. I have really become frustrated with how the football program has been treated by the administration, and the athletic department, I think we all heard the frustration in Joe's interview after the Toledo win. They schedule 3 of the toughest programs in the country brings in millions of dollars to the school yet they don't even have a meal program for the players; their athletic training program is not what a division ! program should be, and Akrons children's hospital maybe great for kids but for adult football players not so much, and In this day and age a division 1 college football program cannot survive without NIL money which Akron has none, so they are losing players that make a difference to the portal for the promise of 20,000, not millions. Don't be surprised if some quality players leave for the portal after this year. The Zips have one of the most respected coaching staff in college football so don't be surprised if they start to disappear . I don't know how much money the football team made from playing teams like Ohio State, and South Carolina, but I know it certainly does not get much back for the team. I do have one question? Who pays for the administration to go to the away games because they where all there in Columbus, Ohio and Columbia, South Carolina, (don't know about New Jersy was unable to go). Yet there is no concern for the health or welfare of the players who are playing those teams. I have been around football for a long time and I know quality programs breed success. The business of football has changed and Akron has not kept up with the rest of the country and the rest of the MAC and until they do the MAC championship they won in 2005 maybe their last.

  2. We are friends with the Stolarski's, Avon is our rival High School. Our coaches are high on Ryan and offered him in the first five minutes he was on campus. Great kid. Holds offers from Toledo, Buffalo, Lehigh and I think OU and Miami.

  3. I have been a season ticket holder longer than I can remember and I love watching Akron Basketball but I am not going to this game and have no desire to watch Hardman score 30 points against division 3 athletes. Even Clarkgriswold "can't put a positive spin on this one." ESPN which broadcasts just about any sport, won't broadcast this game. I love coach Groce and he stated how much he appreciates Akron fans attending the games. I hope he would show his appreciation by only scheduling one division 3 team next year early in the season. And if he wants to grow the Akron fan base, scheduling this game was a mistake and does nothing to bring Akron fans to watch this team.

  4. Went the Games 1 and 2 today. Marion Local is a beast, and Hillsdale basically laid down for them. It was 60-0 at the half. 60 to zero. Game #2 was great. Loved Bishop Watterson’s defense. The pulled out a 19-14 win after being down 7-0 at the half.

  7. Joe Dunn just said we find out today if Okonkwo gets another year of eligibility, and sounded optimistic.

  8. In what world does a player with a checkered background, and also injury prone, go into the portal from a program that until this season was in the bottom ten of FBS. Good luck with a half scholarship in DII Laurance. This does not hurt us.

  10. Mr. Spelling was also an amazing high school soccer coach as well. His results at Medina were extraordinary. For many years, Mr. Spelling would bring 7 to 8 Meidna players to Akron home games and they would sit a row or two behind me. Coach Spelling would often point out good technique and great efforts to the young men from Medina during the Akron game.

  11. Everything was fine with athletics at the mid majors until the injection of big sums of money generated by cable TV. Then it became an arms race they had no chance of winning. Once the folks down on the farm were able to watch top notch competition for free on TV, why would they continue to support the local college? NIL and free agency will be the final nail in the coffin for the MAC and their ilk getting any notoriety on a national level. All that's going on right now in football is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I can hear the band playing.

  12. That sucks. One thing I'll offer though is that we beat Toledo without him recording a single catch.

  13. Forgot Eastern Michigan too. Basically every MAC school has or will offer him.

  14. U of A signage at every NE Ohio football stadium on Friday nights would have been way cheaper, and way more effective at reaching HS kids. Giving 1.3 million to the Browns, as you’re slashing the University budget. Only in Akron. At least we’re consistent.

  15. When diamonds are mined they are in a raw form. It takes time and a skilled technician to create the facets that turn them into something of value and beauty.

  16. Look at that crowd, it really makes me sad we don't have that anymore. I can't believe that's the same school.

  17. Do you think OSU, SC, and Rutgers are taking a win off their record? Negative Nannies are real tiring.

  18. I'll always remember Terry Bowden saying you go from losing big to losing small to winning small and then winning big. I think this season we went from losing small to winning small. Hopefully we reached a turning point for this program and can use this momentum moving forward.

  19. That would certainly be welcomed news, but 16 years too late. Football should have been de-emphasized when you had a dilapidating stadium.
