  1. The coaches allegedly hate these games. And there's also a certain segment of fans who wish-away the season in anticipation of 3 days in Cleveland. And that's fine. I really enjoy "measuring stick" games against like-competition. This Groce team has a lot to prove. They completely whiffed in the early OOC schedule. Yeah they were on the road...yeah it was a new group of players that needed to gel....yeah the teams are near the top of their respective conferences...etc. etc. etc. We lost every. Single. One. If we are going to have a shot at winning a 1st round NCAA game, we need to not only challenge ourselves with a tough OOC schedule, we need to start beating some of these teams. It's been proven that whipping downtrodden Buffalo, pathetic EMU and soon-to-be-Horizon fodder NIU doesn't prepare the Zips for squat. The bracketbuster was great. How else could I drive 20 minutes south of Hudson to see Top 25 team in the JAR? Nevada, VCU...great mid-majors like Oral Roberts and Creighton? I've seen crappy BGSU teams for 30 years. It is refreshing to see someone like Arkansas State, South Alabama, James Madison, etc. on our schedule. Beat South Alabama handily at home, like we should, and grow a bit. Prove something. We've lost 80% of our measuring stick games in the past. We always have a great MAC record. We'll have another one in 2025. Outside of our SWAC and OAC cupcakes we have yet to really ascend in OOC games. We're Kings of the MAC...which is great...but that's been our ceiling for 20 years. I'm greedy. I want more. Beat South Alabama by 15, run roughshod over the MAC, and beat somebody in the Big Dance.

  2. I agree it can appear to be a figurehead position...of sorts. $300k/yr base salary is a pretty nice haul for a figurehead...I wanted some noteworthy, positive results from him if I'm UA. It didn't work out. Like an offensive lineman, you hardly know a great AD is there when he's doing his/her job. I knew Guthrie was there. But that's water under the bridge...a new AD is on the way...hope springs eternal.

  3. This is for me the most disheartening outcome of the new era and where I find myself getting sentimental about the loss of the 'way it was' being a fan of a program and seeing the growth and maturity pay off with championships and the core/program stars basking in what those years of hard work delivered ... the Enrique experience for fb or bball is / will be few and far between. That's what many of us grew up appreciating and where the true fan experience came from, but alas...here we are. We root for a second year with Ben Finley. Go Zips!

  4. NIL exists in the NFL. It's just called endorsements. Any star player will make far more in the NFL than they would in college when you factor in both their NFL salaries and endorsements. The players who can make more in college are the guys who are terrific collegiate players, but are practice squad talent at the NFL level. A guy who jumps out to me is Amando Bacot (I know he's basketball) who was making more at UNC than he is now making in the G-League. I think that post was more a knock at Brandon Marshall and his poor money management. Jeremiah Smith has only made a few million at the collegiate level. Obviously that's a healthy sum, but Brandon Marshall should be worth 10s, if not 100+ million, had he not recklessly spent his career earnings.

  5. Yeah, its a dumpster fire. Kent actually signed what should pan out to be a pretty good prep class (assuming most stay). Yet the portal class doesn’t adequately replace what they lost (at least on paper). A number of the portal signees didn’t have other FBS options. Some didn’t have any other D1 options. Hard to believe the administration is giving the current crew a 3rd year.

  8. I do not know if this is true or not, but it will become a real problem for the NFL if skill players at the college level are getting paid more due to NIL. Imagine a scenario where a player chooses to stay in school because it is more lucrative than the NFL. That's where this is headed.

  9. South Alabama is ranked higher in the NET than every MAC team other than Akron, so it should be a good matchup. Although I imagine we'll be favored by at least 5-7 points.

  10. Yeah, I still have my doubts about this Freeman guy making it. 😉

  11. I actually think QB might be the one position that it's useful to recruit straight out of HS. Even if they sit a year or 2 that gives them additional time to learn the system so those years aren't a complete waste.

  12. I think the kangaroo is so unique as a logo that it should be shown somewhere, somehow

  13. Which is why I hope these are all false and there's nothing that gets Kent out of that contract. Hell, I hope he wins the Nobel Peace Prize and Kent extends him again for that. 😂

  14. Oh that was supposedly a Kent player putting together a timeline of Burns knocking up a student staffer at Wyoming while he coached there

  15. We don't want him to leave. It's great for us that he is there!

  16. I have concern a new AD would try and fire Moorhead and we’ll be starting over yet again, continuing the death spiral of suck. Just want to watch some winning Zips football in my life.
