Incoming PG Tai Perkins seems to definitely be an "Akron Guy." From what I've gathered online he comes from a good, solid family & has at least one (but IIRC) two brothers on the Westerville North team with him. Plus he's sacrificed his game for the good of the team this year as he's moved off ball and let his younger, sophomore brother (who is also amazing) run the point. Tai is looking to advance the ball up the court via the pass as soon as he gets a rebound. He's aggressive & tricky with the ball & can stroke threes. He'll get to redshirt next year behind Tavari & Sharron (š¤). The future is bright!3 points

Iāll tell you what that means to me. A much better non-conference result next year. Maybe a tougher non-conference schedule.3 points

The players need to file into Groceās office and lay their jerseyās on his desk. āThis is for Evan coach, this is for Evanā3 points

2025 MAC Schedule is out. - 6 homes games for Akron. Cannot remember the last time that happened. - No Ohio. - Love the Duquesne game as a "break" between OOC & MAC schedules. - Wyoming, @ Nebraska, @ UAB, Duquesne is the best OOC schedule we've had in some time. - Kent on a Tuesday night is still crap. - 6 MAC wins minimum on this schedule. - No excuse to not go bowling this year at the very least. On you, JoeMo.2 points

I predict Perkins will get only spot minutes, but will likely play. I have yet to see Groce redshirt a point guard.2 points

This is what our schedule needs to look like every year. The opportunity is there for a good start and to create momentum. No excuses, they need to perform this year. Bowl eligibility or bust2 points

I like him quite a bit, but he's the prototypical 6' MAC guard. In his last 8 games, he's scored in single digits in 7 of them (6, 5, 3, 4, 10, 7, 4, 3). I can't believe any competing program is beating the JAR door down with a wheelbarrow of NIL money just yet. If he goes, it's because we have a bevy of really good players in front of him. It's sorta like the NY Yankees, if you think about it?2 points

My biggest concern is Young. My worry is that he sees the team's depth as an impediment to his playing time. He certainly won't have any shortage of suitors.2 points

Zips had their best first half and worst second half. If that happens in Cleveland, they will be toast. 63 points (when is last time THAT happened) and many, many boneheaded turnovers. Yes, refs made some bad calls, but they put themselves in the position where the refs could make a difference. FTs count like any other point and those won them the game.2 points

I can't envision Tavari and Sharron starting together, personally. I do think they can offer Sharron starter-type minutes, though. Shammah is 4th in MPG this season but has only started 1 game. Harris N. Johnson Okonkwo Scott T. Johnson Young Lyles Hardman MMK Mahaffey Brisco Unless there's a transfer from the top 8 listed, I would guess MMK and/or Brisco to be the most likely to be on the outside looking in in regard to PT. I could see it, with JG targeting another combo guard-type in the portal.2 points

If Harris returns, there will not be many game-minutes remaining for anyone else in 2025-26. Harris would take the minutes from Gray's departure, and the others will be fighting for Seth's minutes. In addition, someone like Nate Johnson could get some P5 interest if he has a nice tournament. I have to believe there will be some portal departures.2 points

We need to win the MAC tournament. Akron is viewed as a destination to go dancing, and 3x in 4 years would very much solidify that. Add in our NIL, and we can make as good of an argument for any player to stay or come here.2 points

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=54390&articleTitle=college-rookies-in-the-usl-championship Beto Ydrach, Pittsburgh Riverhounds ā Itās been quite the roundabout journey for Ydrach, a former Red Bulls and Orlando City SC Academy player. He originally began his college career at UCF in 2019, which he missed due to injury. Possessing an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic, Ydrach excelled with Akron last fall, leveraging a Big East Defensive Player of the Year season into an opportunity with the Riverhounds. Heāll provide depth at a number of different spots, including fullback.2 points

We have not heard anything about Brisco yet, but Groce likes Mahaffey. Heās a tall, long guard who will be playing some next year.2 points

First win at Toledo since my senior year of college. Weāll take it. Also both Hardman and Groce only mentioned Evan, Isaiah, and Seth as the seniors on the postgame show. Means we get Okonkwo and Scott back..pretty sweet.2 points

The 2024-2025 regular season comes to an end Friday as the Buffalo Bulls come to the JAR to play the Zips. The Bulls are 9-21/4-13 coming into the game. The Zips beat the Bulls 90-58 at Buffalo in January 21st. 6'3" sophomore guard Ryan Sabol leads Buffalo in scoring at 14.4 ppg. 6'3" senior guard Tyson Dunn averages 12.2 ppg as the team's second leading scorer and is the team's facilitator leading in assists by nearly 100. 6'8" junior forward Noah Batchelor leads rebounding at 6.1 rpg. How are we already at the end of the regular season?1 point

Finally! That area in front of the library has been awful for years now, it seems there is always a hole in the ground, that picture on the bottom left looks good! And that area in front of Crouse/Ritchie needs some work as well1 point

To finish undefeated at home for the first time in John Groce's Akron career, and first time since 2015-16. Not going to be a given, we all remember Jalen Billingsley's put back dunk to finish off last year's season1 point

Shammah coming back is interesting tho. I know groce says there are 10 starters on this team, but itās hard not to think we would have Shammah, Tavari, and Sharron again and someone (or 2) would come off the bench next year. Donāt want to lose any of them to the portal, you just never know1 point

So OU holds the tiebreaker over Kent? Not crazy about playing Kent in the semis but what will be will be.1 point

Yep if CMU wins looks like they're locked in the #8 seed. WMU/BGSU is effectively an elimination game for the 7 seed (Western could sneak up to a six) and the only way Ball St gets in is with a CMU loss. Seeds 3-6 are all still up in the air, EMU, Kent or Ohio can get the three, best Toledo can do is the four. Looking very likely it's 3. Ohio, 4. Kent, 5. Toledo and 6. EMU (but they can finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th). Still pretty open.1 point

Hardman took that 3, missed, and Nate just stood there looking at the ball. Didn't put a body on a single Toledo player. Get him out of the game. pee poor body language, not hustling, etc.1 point

They just showed a graphic for Javan Simmons "3 double doubles this season" how spoiled were we for 4 years?1 point

True, but we match up better shooting wise this year. He ate us alive last year and we still could've won if we had better shooters. Lunardi and the ESPN honks would still find a way to put Syracuse ahead of us. š1 point

Just feels like there is no team cohesion. Youāve got a PG who isnāt pass first. Numerous times thereās a good pass to be had (by any number of the guys on the team), and they pass it up to dribble drive and force a bad shot or pass to a covered teammate. defensively, Iām not sure Iāve seen a more lost group. Everyone shoots the 3 well against them and they are easy to beat off the dribble. Theyāll switch into bad mismatches constantly. K seems to have accepted his fate this year as he even seems checked out on the sideline where in years past he would get on guys. I think he just knows this group doesnāt have it. First brush of adversity and itās game over. Wish I was overstating this, but the last 3 weeks even the offense isnāt producing. First half of the year you could at least count on them to score 70-80 most games.1 point

Toledo fan checking in. Theyāre a mess right now and it looks like they just want the season to be over. Anything other than an Akron win going away would be fairly surprising, as Toledo hasnāt shot, defended or handled any intangibles well for the past 3 weeks.1 point
