The bad news is the men's game isn't on ESPN+. The good news is that the women's game at #6 Michigan isn't either.7 points

I feel the talks of this being Groce's best Akron team was premature. We've been able to run up the score on the bad teams we've faced, but haven't been able to beat the good teams on our schedule. Our best win is against #161 Iona. Hopefully Groce can use this as a teaching moment as this is the worst Akron half-court defense we've seen in maybe 5 years. I think we have the bodies and athletes to improve, but we need to play smarter defense and be more disciplined.5 points

Kent had, in some cases, multiple degrees for the same subject area. Most of the subject areas are still available but without multiple degree designations (i. e. B.A vs B.S.). They are not eliminating nine study areas. They are, however, still Kant State and offering many degrees without viable career paths and without the intern, coop, research, club groups that create opportuntunies that have become a signature feature of many of Akron's options. Note the last edition of Zip Insider where Allen, the pole vaulter with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and now pursuing a Master's in statistics mentioned the importance of internships even with the stem degrees she is getting. The importance of having degrees in job-oriented fields with good experience opportunities was also cited in this week's Board meeting by the Provost as being a factor in the increased number of 2027 applications even with a smaller student pool. She mentioned that Akron is doing a better job of telling that story to prospective students and finding more who are listening to that set of factors in their decision making. I hope that is true because students need to consider these items. Students too often pick colleges for insane reasons. Akron needs to continue down this road of making their degrees produce job-ready graduates in as high a percentage as possible. GO ZIPS!4 points

Halligan came in and spurred the Zips rally with some really good defense. He was fighting through the screens and would not let his man drive to the basket. Groce was switching him in for defense. With Barre and him on the floor at the same time you could see the difference in defense. I would like to see them get more playing time in the 2nd half.2 points

Hope the Zips don't get caught looking forward to Eastern Michigan. Potential trap game.2 points

Watching Xavier host Missouri State on TNT right now. Akron would run Xavier out of the gym.2 points

She did commit as a high school junior. She played high school soccer this year and was selected to the 2025 All American team. I will do some research on the club question. Edit- looks like she plays for Nanchoff team in Cleveland internationals SC https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/hattie-yugovich/pid-1593562 points

I think we were around #16 in kenpom offensive rating and moved up to #14 after the game. We were around #150 in defense heading into the game. Now we're at #206. You have to go back to 2018 to find a year our defense was rated this low.1 point

I got the feeling early when Joe told me that the Zips coaches thought Murray State was more talented than Yale.1 point

Washington vs. NC State for the Championship. Two power conference schools. Feel like the Zips would have matched up well with either. Darn it. To make myself feel better I went back and looked at the National Championship program, surprised to see that Akron had about 10000 more students than either Louisville or North Carolina back then.1 point

I just bought access to the game. I thought it was an app I could watch on my tv but it looks like I need to watch through the computer. Arena looks empty for the first game. Picture looks decent.1 point

Back to back wins for UMass vs ACC teams. At one point, UMass was up by 18 pts late in the game.1 point

Chemistry, Life Science, Math, Physics. That is wild to eliminate majors that have been around since basically whenever higher education started1 point

The video clip they just showed of the 1959 SLU championship was insane. It looked like they played on the equivalent of the intramural field behind manny’s in a mud pit1 point

They play in a metro of 850K, which is still rapidly growing, where they're literally the only show in town. They were well funded before, but now will even have more money at their disposal once they join the PAC-12. They've played in New Year's Day bowls on several occasions. Have had success under multiple coaches and those coaches have received big money jobs at P4 schools afterwards. IMO Boise St. is one of the best P4 jobs for an up and coming coach. It has good brand recogninition, well funded, and proven success across multiple coaches.1 point

Good news is that, unlike some years, Zips can hang with any of these four CC teams. We are not far away.1 point

Terrible error by furman to allow UW to go up 2-0. CB tries to bring down a ball with the bottom of his foot and pass to the goalie in one motion, UW player intercepts it goes around the keeper and the guy that gave up the ball doesn’t even try to slide to prevent a goal1 point

Looking forward to this game. The great Akron teams always had great guard play. Johnson and Scott have been playing very well. Our defense and rebounding has been our weakness and in our last game we rebounded the ball very well. This team has gotten better as Barre has improved and has received more minutes. I like Marvin's hustle and game but he is undersized at the 5 and just not strong enough against opposing centers with height. Would love to see another blowout win.1 point

Well, the Akron coaches aren’t providing all the same services to JoeMo that she was providing to Sherrone!1 point

So the Big East had two chances to get to the College Cup and got neither. The College Cup will be a 15 seed, a 16 seed, and two unseeded teams. St Louis last won in 1973, and none of the other three have ever won a national championship.1 point
