  1. Ah, the legendary 2010 recruiting class…
  2. Their hoops team couldn't beat Maine.
  3. Ball unfortunately had The Betty White Bone Density Syndrome. Lingard was injured early in his college career, but seems to be healthy towards the end. He just got stuck behind a couple great Florida backs. Hope he has a fairy tale ending at UA.
  4. Meh...he played 400 minutes as a true Freshman. That's more than a lot of Frosh. Played 13 minutes against UCLA. Enrique was his BFF. Playing in a program that likely would be in the MAC finals a few more times during his career. Good for him, but I'm baffled why he left. Maybe I'm just old...if you don't play enough as a Freshman, you transfer. If you play really well, you transfer. A player needs to fall within the "not-bad-enough-to-be-disenchanted-and-transfer-but-not-good-enough-to-be-attractive-in-the-portal" if he's to stick around.
  5. I'm still a bit baffled why he left Akron.
  6. The resilient old man's off to a 9-3 start? Hats off to him. Can he keep it up once conference play rolls around?
  7. That point of view hits home for me. The blame for the weak JAR crowds this season doesn't rest on UA Marketing's shoulders. This team has fallen flat to begin the season, and failed to build off last year's success. Too bad, because they finally had a schedule to do so. Last year we more than overcame the "losses" of Walton and Trimble (both were veterans, and expected to be starters). I expect some cream will rise to the top again and fill the Dawson/Bandaogo/Ali shoes. There is a ton of playing time available to any Zip who wants to consistently drain shots, and get a few floor burns on defense. Looking forward to seeing who steps up their game.
  8. We'll crush 'em like grapes! 🦵🦵
  9. Update was run a few minutes ago. Hopefully things are better for you.
  10. Maybe it's the last day before break, and the last day they'll be together for a pic? It's ok to sign a paper and hold a ceremony at your HS, but nothing's official until it rolls off the athletic dept's fax machine on the 21st. It is still faxed, right? 🙃
  11. We are working on a server upgrade that is required in order to download the latest invision software. Hope it is completed within the next few days. Your next two months of ZipsNation are on the house. 😉
  12. I recall when Charlie Frye came to UA, his best HS receiver came along for a couple years. I don't think he ever played, but I'm sure having a familiar face from his hometown come to Akron was nice. Smith seems like an athlete. The coaches wouldn't bring him half way across the country if they didn't feel he could be a player one day. I look forward to seeing what he's got to offer.
  13. For all you Boones Farm and Night Train fans out there, fortified wines under $5 per bottle don’t count.
  14. So many beer posts on ZipsNation over the years…could this be the first wine shout out? Glad someone else thinks Yellowtail is the benchmark for bottom-end wines! 🤮
  15. If my Aunt had average nuts, she could, potentially, be my Uncle.
  16. If Buffalo pulls that one off, they have a mortal lock on the "Hoban pipeline"! I remember when Andy Hipsher was in his later HS years, even though he was heading to Akron, his dad thought it was important for him to go through the recruiting process. And, there's no guarantee that the next "Larry" Williams, "Curly" Wistercill or "Moe" Helsel doesn't succeed Guthrie and ditch Joe. Or, Joe naturally moves on from UA. A million things can happen between now and 2026 so I get why he's going through the same process as any other HS '26 talent.
  17. Tom Corado Could be the "Blake Dennis" of this Zips recruiting class?
  18. Akron Transfer Lands at Cincinnati The HS Portal is apparently open too?
  19. I was in a hurry this morning...still am...but hopefully it reads a little more accurately now.
  20. Can't believe he's 66 years old? When he was at Akron the guy never got his due. He brought in some great players...guys that Brookhart won a championship with...with no Stiles Center, and no Infocison...just a dilapidated Rubber Bowl. It took him 9 years at UA to get the Zips to a "nice" 7-5. His tenure at Ashland was "very good," but not "great." But it does make you wonder what he could have done had he stayed at UA. He was loyal to Ashland for 22 years, so if he continued at Akron there's a chance he could have been that long-tenured, "Solich-like" coach? And with improved resources, 8 or 9 win seasons wouldn't have been crazy talk. We'll never know... Enjoy retirement, or whatever comes your way, Lee.
  21. Only in Akron could you have a 1st and 10 on the opponent's 35 with 3:15 remaining and turn over the ball twice + give up a TD on a 4th and 10. That's a hell of a 3 minutes and 15 seconds.
  22. One crippling loss after another.
