  1. Man that was an ugly win but I'll take it. This team has struggled to shoot from outside the arch with regularity for 2 + yrs now. Most teams aggressively double Freeman the second he touches the ball and dare the rest of the team to beat them. That leads me to this question. Can Kobe be the guy to keep defense's honest? If so what does that do for min for either Tibble or Hankerson? How much net gain does that provide as they lose quite a bit defensively. Just some thoughts as the season progresses. They need a third option or they'll have issues beating the upper teams in the MAC
  2. Agreed. Lawson is a guy that projected to be a good speed rusher but never put on much weight. Maybe by his Sr year he could be that guy. I'm guessing he was just too slow to play OLB.
  3. Either him or Nate Robinson https://247sports.com/Player/Nate-Robinson-26353/high-school-42787/
  4. 💯💯💯 This is what really separates a coach like JoMo vs Arth. Coach has tons of connections at the FBS level and has recruited many of these P5 portal players either as an OC or HC. Arth on the other hand had limited connections and was coming from a place where he recruited at the DIII or FCS level. The portal game is sooooo important in today's game. No connections lead to blind or limited evaluations /Offers. Yet another reason I'm confident in this staff.
  5. This team needs Tavari to be a special freshman if they are going to be in the hunt for the MACC. Him and X are the only guys on the court that can get their shot off from the bounce. Plus he gives X some time to rest off ball. Defensively this team really misses Ali and Dawson's length. The effort is there though. The MAC is pretty weak (Even for MAC standards) so I expect them to get better as the season goes on and be in the mix. Was sad to the the crowd. Covid scared all the blue hairs away and it looks like they never came back.
  6. Looks like he's originally from Germany. Had an offer from Hawaii and a few other FCS schools
  7. I've been wanting to start this thread for a while but wanted to wait until the season ended. My question is simple does Jomo have his QB1 for 23? Irons certainly passes the eye test. Great arm strength and is very fast. The cons with him is he doesn't see the field well, especially in the red zone and is slow with his reads. This is a major flaw in this type of system. Can he be coached up? I think it was CK that called Undercuffler as a fine backup and I agree. If anything his time as QB1 showed how good Jomo's system is and how talented our WR corps are. Is Steele ready to play right away? It seems like a stretch but elite QBs make the transition all the time now a days. What about the other young QBs on the roster? Does coach bring in a transfer or two? Curious to hear the boards thoughts on you'd like to see and what you expect coach to do.
  8. Gilbert signed to Bucs practice squad. https://steelersdepot.com/2022/10/former-steelers-lb-ulysees-gilbert-iii-reportedly-signing-to-buccaneers-practice-squad-ahead-of-matchup-on-sunday/
  9. Thanks! I knew I was forgetting someone.
  10. What makes you think our backs are good? Haven't shown anything all year. Also another question for the group as I honestly need help with this one. Who was the last good end UA has? Lemon? Akron's line play on both sides has been awful for a generation now. Hopeful Morehead can up the talent level in the next two years. This loss stings.
  11. I never thought I'd see someone fail worse than Ianello in evaluating and landing highschool talent but Arth was a trendsetter. Man was his staff was bad
  12. What I liked: WRs...they are open a lot and made some nice plays for Irons TE see above comments Jones: Can be all MAC Wiley: yes he missed some lanes but looks like a solid back What I don't like: O-Line...oh boy! Happy they subbed out Grey. While massive, he's too slow Back half of the D. I don't see this improving much so JoMo better figure out how to score a lot of points Irons: He's the most important player on the field and in JoMo's offense the QB needs to make quick reads and be crisp with his throws. Irons did neither of them well and I'm not hopeful he will figure it out. Looked very similar to last year. He let the pass rush get to him and bailed on plays too quickly. He missed wide open receivers often and when he did find them he was not accurate. Love the play calling from Morehead yesterday. He sets his guys up to hit big plays. Let's get through the rest of OOC relatively healthy and will out some Ws in conference.
  13. Website has been updated. It actually looks professional. That being said I still cannot find a depth chart. Let's go Zips! Get a W
  14. Curious if you got them electronically or physically. Got mine today via email. Also nothing regarding parking.
  15. I watched a decent amount of Memphis hoops last year. He reclassified to start college early. He was a bit soft due to that. Also he has a lot of work to go on his jumper. He lost playing time and looked to transfer. Plenty of schools wanted him. I thought he was going to end up at Louisville personally. If he figures out his jump shot he's a pro. Think Felipe Lopez for an old school comp
  16. Here's the article. I know this is home for him but wow. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/34168918/emoni-bates-former-no-1-recruit-memphis-tiger-transferring-eastern-michigan
  17. Great for the conference to see players from the conference taken in back to back years.
  18. These are the body types Akron has missed out on for years. Hopefully JoMo can keep this pattern of bigger kids that can add weight/strength and not loose speed in the process. For years the LB position has been way too small and not nearly fast enough.
  19. https://7220sports.com/ravontae-holt-to-miss-rest-of-season-with-unspecified-injury/ 3 torn ACLS. Hope the kid can finish his college career on the field. Only other guy I can think of that went through something similar was the infamous Ryan Bain.
  20. While I'm a bit underwhelmed with the logo I certainly don't hate it. To echo some other posters thoughts the U needs to stick with this logo to form a brand. They can do all kinds of secondary logos but the primary logo needs to stay in place for the long haul for it to be successful IMO.
  21. I've seen it and it's not timeless. It is better than script Akron but that's a very low bar.
  22. Quotes that I love to read and only reaffirm my belief this team will eventually contend for conference titles. Across the board, for the most part, we look like a team that deserves to step foot – physically – on a Division I football field,” "Because we can fix some of the X's and O's,” he said. “If you can get the kids believing in the scheme and giving incredible effort and playing hard for quarters and not being on an emotional roller coaster and just keep sawing wood, generally good things will happen.”
  23. Solid breakdown on the roster. This team desperately needs a playmaking guard. X is fine but he's not that type of player. I'm assuming Groce put all of his eggs in the Walton basket and it blew up in his face. Really hoping they can pickup a juco guard that fits their heavy pick and roll system for next year. Would also love to see a consistent spot up shooter. You get those two with Ali and Freeman making gains and you're back in the hunt. If not we're just a slightly above average MAC team. It's also good the conference has taken a step back or they wouldn't even be that. Cap good call with Ali. IMO all the dribbling is a result of him having no other options to score. He has the makings of being a special talent before his times up at Akron. Just hope he doesn't get poached.
  24. I had this conversation with Bowden a number of years ago on how to recruit players from the South. He mentioned that back in the day there weren't a lot of smaller D1 schools in the South so many came up North to play ball. He would learn that a player he was recruiting would often have a father, uncle, cousin, etc that played in the MAC or similar conference that could vouch for the school and coach. That and offering playing time helps 😉
  25. Yeah kids and their parents have never thought they were undervalued and would be a star if they just went to another school. 🙄
