2022 Season Polls / Rankings
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Will be disappointed if we don't get one home game, like last year. Better be prepared for another Santa Clara-type team. -
Faith was a complete player in HS. She has heft and rebounding ability, and can step outside and knock down the 'j'. A surprisingly athletic 6-3 with inside moves and instincts. She'll be all-MAC W/in 3 years.

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401485974 Didn't see this one, for obvious reasons! Anyone can comment on the bench and roster? Is anyone missing besides Corcoran? Faith Stinson had 6 today -- any comments on her talents? I hope she gets to play, as she's a big time player.

But wouldn't it have received criticism for redundancy?? I mean SERIOUSLY...the EMU emus??? 🤯

I admit my embarrassment! 😵 Seems I was the first to report on him with the first post in this thread "MIP in the Windy City". Double Doh!! -

Is this the first we've heard about Darrion Baker? It's nice to see Groce mining the rich vein of talent in the Windy City. -
MAC Suspends Mens Soccer sponsorship after 2022
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
From your mouth to the B1G gods ears! 😅 (and GoZips') 😉 -
MSU's big man Tolu Smith played a year of HS here in Hawai'i. Has family in the islands. He's a very athletic post. It'll be fun to see how he and Freeman match up against each other. There should be NBA scouts present, as both those guys have gotta be on the radar. https://www.hawaiiprepworld.com/boys-basketball/life-after-kahuku-tolu-smith-thriving-at-mississippi-state/

Let me know when the Pat Mayfield NIL line is available! Or does some of Rique's $$ trickle down to his teammates?

MAC Tourney Championship Game - Nov 12 v WMU
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The point is, the MAC CAN stop Akron from moving to another league for soccer only (so long as the conference continues to sponsor men's soccer). It sounds like you're talking about another conversation...the #HittingaDeadHorse thread of Akron leaving the conference altogether. That's a fair discussion, but a different one... 😉 -
MAC Tourney Championship Game - Nov 12 v WMU
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
That sounds very nice, but so long as the MAC maintains an NCAA tournament slot -- and they just need to find one more member to maintain that -- the MAC is not just going to sit back and allow their prize cow to run away. I'm guessing the conference would have the final say. But that said...I wonder what the rest of the MAC soccer-playing schools are up to... 🤔 -
Players who transferred from last year, Where are they now?
Z.I.P. replied to 1981 grad's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Okay...NOT last year, but I saw it and went... "Aha!" Glad to see Taylor excelling, even if I don't know where Harding U. is. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401489542 -
I was driving home from work, celebrating Akron's 72-70 victory when I looked at the phone and it shows...OVERTIME!!! WTF. 🤯 Thank you Greg Tribble for winning the game...AGAIN!! 😄
-
Can someone just explain to me what happened at the end of regulation? Because ESPN still shows Akron 72 SDSU 70 after 2nd half! 🤷♂️🤷♀️😵
-
Can you believe? This Jackrabbit team shot 44.5% from three on the season last year? 👌 Best put a hand in the shooter's face! https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/preview/_/gameId/401493699

It's nice to see @ZipsMensSoccer still recruiting @ColumbusCrewAcademy hard. I'm sure the hometown school would love to have those two. Sorry, Suckeyes! 😅

All these years, standing there about 30 yds out in the stands I always thought that was Nagbe's head on the ball! I never read the papers or watched TV that night! Thanks to Zip_ME87 for clearing up my mind. I looked at the highlights and couldn't tell who it was... Doh! Nice play Kofie! 😂 https://www.independent.com/2010/12/11/college-cup-louisville-akron-set-sunday-final/

Header goal by Darlington.

To be quite honest, I really felt Darlington Nagbe's go-ahead and game-winning goal before halftime was the finest goal of that Friday night! ⚽️🏆

Columbus Crew announce the professional retirement of former US YNT Captain and 2010 freshman all-America Perry Kitchen. One of the steadiest central mids I've ever had the pleasure of watching. #2 pick in the 2011 Superdraft, following a national championship season for Caleb Porter's Akron Zips. 🌟 Enjoy the sunset and a new sunrise 🌅 , Legend! https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-announces-end-of-2022-roster-decisions

Q: Has Akron given up a TD on the final drive of the first half in each and every game this season?
-
CatDaddy (candidly), you should be the color commentator on the broadcast, but that would put the King of Jackson Twp out of work! lol

ZTV Sports 2010 Mini Documentary
Z.I.P. replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
My story of the NCAA title College Cup features walking from the tournament HQ hotel -- which I THOUGHT was where the team was staying -- nearly a mile down Hwy 1 in Santa Barbara to the Fess Parker Inn (IIRC) which was the ACTUAL team hotel. I walked into the lobby, expecting a raucous party atmosphere and found what appeared like the aftermath of a family reunion -- winning the championship was so emotionally emptying apparently that all the players and families were just lounging around waiting for the bus to arrive to take them to LAX! I thought about grabbing the trophy and running out the side door, but the team's discipline wore off one and I refrained! Meanwhile, my friend who had the car had left with his college roommate for the roommate's house in Montecito, so I ended up having to take a cab back to the motel in Goleta where we were staying -- which cost me a cool $55 charge. BUT, before I could depart I had to look for the boys room, and while wandering the hall behind the main lobby I opened a door to what turned out to be the party room, and low and behold there was the Louisville Cardinals team and traveling "party", living it up with the band I recall and cheerleaders -- acting just as if it were THEY who had won the College Cup, rather than the triumphantly laid back group out in the lobby. That difference in reactions spoke a ton to me about the difference in cultures between the two final programs. There's no way Caleb Porter's team could have celebrated a title game defeat, but Ken Lolla's sure as heck was! How many titles has Louisville won? -
Whoever is USF men's basketball coach better be updating his resume'!
