  1. Could use some Mark Alberts right about now. Rodney Tetzloff, not so much. 😜
  2. Tonight's game was live and direct on the X-Cast! (That's Xavier Castanyeda if ya didn' catch on) Carried the team when he knew his teammates needed him badly! Another second half like the UCanada game -- 51 points I think.
  3. 23 years since Forest played Premier League football (1999) Time for a Canadian rennaissance.
  4. The team that beat UCLA is 0-3 in the MAC! 🤯
  5. Top Drawer Soccer's mock draft 1.0 has Diogo Pacheco and Will Meyer going in the first round. Also NIU's Nick Markanich. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=50354&articleTitle=2022-mls-mock-draft:-version-10&mc_cid=4835021015&mc_eid=da683e51b9
  6. Great game to watch with friends, who are becoming Zips fans. Let me thank my bartender for the Honolulu Cider Co. Guava Lava. 😃 Boals had the game plan to beat Akron early -- why are we so slow to get unhinged? OU is built for the tournament and can make a run with those shooters. Sometimes it seems like Ali x2 looks better when he's just a little out-of-control. If he's not the Most Improved Player in the MAC, I don't know who is -- it just seems like his athleticism has taken a jump from last year. After Vander Plas injured his left shoulder (about the time Akron's comeback began) he was less eager to shoot, and once on defense he made contact with a Zip ballhandler and ran to lean against the basket support in pain. That injury didn't hurt Akron's comeback. Finally, if we hadn't missed all our free-throws the first half we'd have had a better chance! Especially gotta make the front end of one-and-ones. Overall not that disappointed and think we have a good chance in the return trip to Upper Appalachia.
  7. Any news on Trimble? Any chance he plays? Could really help match that outside shooting (so-called advantage) by Appalachia.
  8. Our "new" beat writer wrote Trimble is "day-to-day". I therefore presume he's awaiting a negative covid test result, or perhaps an end to quarantine. Has he been practicing? If so it's the former.
  9. Can this be correct? Canada ZERO offensive rebounds in the 2nd half? Wow!
  10. Cant remember anyone other than Joe Jakubick taking 20 free throws in a game. Ali x2 16/20.
  11. Payout for CMU and the MAC jumped from 350k to 4.5 mil during the Chipps' bus ride from Tucson to El Paso! Not sure, but that must compete with past MAC New Years Day bowl game checks! Sun Bowl has always been my favorite scenic bowl game with that historic rock "M" (for UTEP Miners) on the slope outside the stadium. It does seem rather ironic that Miami had to drop out with Covid, when Wazzou had the only head coach to be fired during the season for refusing to be vaccinated -- my old beer and pizza guzzling partner from his Hawai'i QB days, Nick Rolovich.
  12. Ends up Point Park's Sherron Schifino has a cousin, Jalen Hood-Schifino who's a 4 or 5-star (ranked #20 on Rivals Top 100), and signed with Indiana after decommitting from hometown Pittsburgh. Coach Groce shoulda put in a call to Uncle Jake for a recommendation! https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2020/07/27/Pitt-basketball-Jalen-Hood-Schifino-decommits-Montverde-Academy-Jeff-Capel-William-Jeffress/stories/202007270104
  13. Fascinating no one mentioned one of the more ironic facts of the game: The Anteaters' coach, Russell Turner came closer than anyone to being full-time coach of the D-1 school in Akron. Multiple reports stated he was offered and turned down the Akron job before it was offered to John Groce. He's one of the top young coaches on the West coast and his team was coming off having led #10 USC by double digits before finally losing by 5. They own wins over excellent teams Santa Clara and Boise State, so I must say: Nice win Duqies!!
  14. Here is what I remember about Radford U. men's basketball: In his final career game in March of 1993, Akron's Mark Alberts finished as the NCAA's career leader in 3-point field goals. It was either later the same evening or the next night that Radford's Doug Day passed Alberts and moved into first place in the career 3-pointers list. I believe it was also the final game of Day's college career, so he must have celebrated, while Mark fell back into his chair after his brief time on top of the 3-point mountain. What's Mark Alberts doing these days?
  15. This is the team that drew Brimfield AM&T School of Fashion Design in the Tater Tots Bowl. They whooped up on NIU and Jar St. on the road early on, went 4-0 non-con to manage 6-6 overall, 2-4 with defeats to New Mex and Hawai'i in the mediocre MWC. Enjoy the stay in Laramie, the Las Vegas of Central Wyoming.
  16. Nice all-around! He'll have a chance to prove himself before the biggest media and opponents. Good luck with @UCFKnights.
  17. I think you're both right! 😁 @BallCoachJoeMo = Win-Win!
  18. 🤔 Already looking ahead to a trip East on 9/11/27. BTW, whatever came of the NMSU deal??
