4th coach since...2007? And this is the 3rd with roots in SoCal. I suspect the VB program is the "runt of the litter" in Akron women's sports -- at least even with soccer (which reminds me...is Noreen still the coach?? 😒). Investment is needed beyond coaching!

OSUcks 3-point specialist. Only one year remaining. 42% 3-point shooter. Won't be surprised if he's in the MACtion next season. Or even Horizon. Limited usefulness. Seems like another Trimble.

We have a (HS) State POY. D2, Faith Stinson.

That noise you heard wasn't Bobcat Attack exploding. It was just a collective sigh of relief!

Erica Johnson of Ohio leaving after junior year...It's a stretch to see her drafted, as her numbers fell off this year after a strong start to her career. Cece could be a late pick.

This is the best analysis of A-squared. He was NEVER an NBA prospect -- Cronin was trying to butter him up pre-game to get in his head...and it worked! At best was 2nd team All-MAC, but lacked the consistency needed to be the star. Maybe if not for Freeman, he'd be staying. And maybe he thinks Bobby Hurley will pick him up and he get a second chance against the Bruins. He's not going to be a star at that level. All that said, I wish the kid well, and honestly hope he gets his degree and has a great life! Thanks for your contribution to a memorable season. Now let's go get the Bigs we need to compete for more championships. In Groce I Trust!

Well, I guess any chance of the MAC getting multiple bids has gone down the drain! 🤷♂️😂

NCAA Soccer 21st Century Model
Z.I.P. replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
It's unknown at this point, but that's exactly the purpose and reason why most top coaches -- led by the Terp's Cirovski -- are getting behind the new model. The belief that college soccer is falling rapidly behind the times in its ability to develop pro players is putting severe pressure to make the college experience more like developmental and professional models. There are other aspects to the model, such as limited substitutions that are also intended to increase the interest of top-flight prospects -- particularly American players, to use college as a bridge to a pro career rather than jumping from (especially MLS) academies into USL or other pro leagues. -
Fascinating-- and hilarious discussion of Steele on Miami Hawktalk! Apparently coach is married to an heir to an old money family in Cinci, and fans suggesting they can get an ex-X coach and a Millett Hall remodel in one package! 😂

2021 - Former Zips in College - Where are they now
Z.I.P. replied to zippyfan34's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Always remember how athletic Parrish was the first time I saw him play versus USC in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic in '17. He was a master of the finger roll and pull-up jumper. He had all his 11 points off the bench in the second half as the Trojans went from about a 5-point halftime deficit to win going away. -
“So far I've heard from Pittsburgh, Virginia, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Loyola Chicago, West Virginia, Arizona State and receiving serious interest from West Virginia, Iowa State, Loyola Chicago, Indiana so far.” So...MAC can't afford this kid. https://247sports.com/college/arizona-state/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Ball-State-Payton-Sparks-Pittsburgh-Virginia-Oklahoma-Indiana-Illinois-Cincinnati-Iowa-State-Loyola-Chicago-West-Virginia-Arizona-State-184974136/Amp/

This is the junior commitment, Leila Jones from Westerville. Her sister is a sophomore on the OSSuckeyes squad. I believe we are still considered a finalist for class of 23 guard Jenna Kopyar from Dublin.

I have been following HS girls bb recruiting pretty closely the past several months, since the start of school and was disappointed that coach Jackson lost the battle to keep Lanae Riley, the dominant Hoban post player in town. Akron had been pursuing Riley and was the first to offer when she was a sophomore. She signed to go away to Middle Tennessee. However, Faith Stinson is a player very much in the same style -- a wide body who has athletic moves in the paint and can shoot the three as is so important in Jackson's offense. Melissa has also offered Faith's sister Jamisyn, a sophomore guard (5-9 or 10 now) who could end up being more heavily recruited than her sister. Also, Melissa had a verbal commitment from a Columbus area junior, I believe it was Dublin Coffman star Jenna Kopyar, however her Twitter no longer shows a commitment -- since her teammate committed to Wisconsin. Perhaps she's holding out hope to follow her or get a B1G offer.

She has just one year of eligibility remaining? I'm sure she can help, but we do already have Zakia Rasheed, another Hoosier waiting to get additional playing time. Z has tremendous potential and could be an important cog from beyond the 3-point arc next year along with Rachel Martindale, who'll be a senior.

WOW! I'm sure folks remember not so long ago when dreamers on this board imagined the Zips moving up to the rare air of Conference USA! 😄
-
Grand Canyon becoming more competitive every year, and they have the resources to win -- Bryce Drew wants to be as successful as his brother Scott. He'll probably have to move up again -- didn't really have a chance at Vandy. And GCU will likely move up to SOMEWHERE... is the Big Sky a promotion? NMSU has little hope, or resources for promotion.
-
A 12 seed is a 12 seed regardless of the conference. Toledo if they had won out would have likely been that with 4 losses. NMS beat St. Mary's and Wash St in the pre-season I believe. The WAC has become a stepping stone league, with Cal St Bakersfield and Grand Canyon moving from D-2 and now Tarleton St. CSUB moved on to the Big West. NMSU was a WAC member for...50 years? They went down with the league, but the bb program still is respected and can recruit. They might get a veteran coach in the declining years. Is Larry Brown available?? 🤣
-
With openings at a couple MAC schools, and Travis Steele being jobless at the moment does anyone think the league could have a brother coaching act with Steele and Groce? If Balls St can afford him, I could imagine it, though it's quite a step down. The school has past tradition however.
-
Yeah, we'll probably be like 12th in the pre-season poll! 😉

First...Is Freeman actually taking up an athletic scholarship, or still a walk-on as TV stated? If he has a full academic scholarship why does he take a bb scholarship? Soccer hides kids on academic $$ all the time, though they have only 9.5 limit. #2, Don't sleep on Sekou Sada Kalle. He came in highly regarded, but weighing only 185 on a 6-10 frame. He may just be waiting in the weight room. From research, apparently he was offered by UCLA and Rutgers as a freshman or sophomore based on his relationships with NBA academy in Africa. I have hope for this kid to team with Banda Ogo next season. 🤞
