2-1 Seattle. Three consecutive near-calls, beginning with a goal called back for off-side, followed by a play that an Akron defender had to clear off the goal line, and seconds later-- while the camera was reviewing the previous play, they score to go ahead 2-1. No offensive attack by Akron tonight!
-
Unfortunate end to the half, but we were frankly outplayed by a motivated Red Hawk group looking for NCAA tournament revenge. I dare say that this opponent is not nearly as good as the one we face on Sunday afternoon! Yikes.

OMG! Seattle gets an unbelievable goal with exactly ten seconds to play -- inbounding from the half line, did our back three fall asleep?? The guy threw the ball forty yards, into the box and a Seattle player looked to be alone for a one timer to the left of a diving Lundt! Goodness! Halftime. 1-1. Zips hot just 2 shots in the first 45, 1 on goal by Nicoletto. Seattle had 8 shots, five on goal. Four saves by Ben.
-
Ezana Kahsay and Ivan Nikolic sub in with ten to play in the half.
-
Marco Micaletto scores on Akron's first serious attacking play Egbo dribbled through -- he's looking like the most dangerous player on the pitch tonight. 1-0 Akron 23rd min.
-
Torrential rain in Seattle early in the contest. Even possession thru first fifteen. Ben Lundt has made 2 or 3 saves, so maybe more attack in the box from the RedHawks. Edit: SU 4 shots to 1 for Akron after 22 minutes. Guessing 3 sog to 0.

2019 Commit: Ali Ali, 6-7 SF
Z.I.P. replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Strange that a quick kudo to his commitment came from Lloy Ball, Volleyball legend from Ball State and at least two time USA Olympian. Wonder if Ali played HS volleyball. Let's see him "ROOF" the opposition. -
Yep. Officially Cancelled. Per @Huskers.

Nebraska twitter saying game tomorrow 10:30 a.m. CST. Who knows???
-
Too bad, but I gotta leave for Aloha Stadium! Navy vs Hawaii. Hoped to get this in before. Oh, well... ? Beautiful weather today in Hawai'i.
-
You're talkin about the Nebraska locker room?? ?

Thought ESPN+ was a television package from cable. Is that still available? So much easier to turn on the TV!

Good thing -- if there is one -- is he has a redshirt year remaining, having played last year.
-
I remember that name -- vaguely! 72 R-O-O, I couldn't find what was the last year for men's swimming -- but I recall it was while I was a student. Around 1980? Anyone?
-
has anyone heard directly, or can venture a guess...why has Chad decided to return to soccer...after deciding not to play professionally...to go into coaching? I always considered one of the most underrated Akron defenders ever!

The situation seriously reminds me of how the women's soccer program was treated with -- was it back-to-back interim coaches effectively before Noreen Herlihy was hired as part of a "long-term plan". They're just playing around, with no idea and little or no concern about developing a winning program. Very sad. I hope those with any input rate the AD's effectiveness on his treatment of women's sports at the UofA!

It's a hire that first of all says, "We don't care about this program!" And that is not to prejudge the competency of Melissa Jackson. As I wrote weeks again, she seemed to be out recruiting players and gaining the respect of admin and players. However no other D1 school would have considered this coach for a HC position. Was anyone else seriously considered, or are we so weak we cannot afford to look around? I'm sure there are many here who will agree with the attitude that we shouldn't use resources on a "minor sport". I had hoped we were well beyond those days, but the overall department seems to be slipping these days -- and I do blame the bean counters who don't understand the importance of investing in the future, or the need for a balanced department of athletics.

There she goes!

Spin -- was that during the 1980s? The only outdoor pro team I remember in Cleveland was the Cleveland Cobras, in the 70s. I guess they must have been in the NASL.
-
Yep -- you guys love to travel! I remember what a great time you had at the Diamond Head Classic last year. Or am I growing senile? ?
-
That could be the trend, considering that they hired as the basketball SID, the guy who had been an assistant baseball coach! Seems he is biding his time there until the program is resurrected.

2018 full fall schedule has been released
Z.I.P. replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yes. Just got the sked email from the ticket office. Surprised and disappointed that the team won't be visiting Santa Barbara in the regular season when the College Cup is destined for Harder Stadium. But, it's nice to be in the UW Tournament. Not sure when the program last played in Seattle. We did play both UW and Portland at UP in 2000. UP roster included All-America Kelly Gray and Conor Casey (who was at the Olympics and didn't play). Washington I recall defeated Akron 4-0, while Portland scored I think 3 first half goals, then we came back to tie them in the second half. Someone contact Steve Zakuani! -
Terry and family were very strongly rooted in the Marlington School District, so I saw him as being the most difficult "leave" when the staff escaped to Pittsburgh. I can imagine they're feeling homesick by now. For reasons that are internal to Terry, he never felt the desire to apply for head coaching jobs while at Akron. Maybe this is his last chance at either a HC job or returning to the area (He's a Barberton native). I'm just not sure its a good idea to hire a man who's never coached womens' basketball for his first HC job at a D1 university.

Duquesne Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot
Z.I.P. replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what was the situation with Dylan Swingle last year -- he graduated from Paint Valley in 2017, yet he never appeared on Duquesne's roster...now he's listed as an incoming freshman. Was he a basketball greyshirt? Did he attend a prep school...?
