  1. No kidding? So you are telling me that those teams are loaded with walk ons just like virtually every other D1 team.
  2. I'm uncertain as to which Akron 1 post you are referring? Is it the one where he tells about an unsourced story he heard that UA has to honor each players four year scholarship. Or is it the one where he incorrectly responds to your question “does that mean if a kid quits, or is dismissed from the team, or enters the portal but chooses to return to UA - but not on a football basis - is the scholarship still honored?”. I'll guess it's the second one. If a kid quits (even if he stays in school) or enters and exits the portal (even if he stays in school) he gives up the scholarship and what I said previously applies. Being dismissed from the team is a little more tricky. A few years back, we had a scholarship guard on the basketball team who was cut from the team and tossed out of the university. Seems the authorities frowned on his business - selling pot. He lost his scholarship. On the other hand, A coach with a heart (which means this option may not be all that common) might elect to continue a players renewable scholarship despite the fact that the coach cut the player from the team solely because the player wasn't good enough. You prove to me that any player on the Akron team has a guaranteed 4 year scholarship and then we will address that.
  3. Please stop struggling: reread my previous post.
  4. No cash payout, and no transfer of funds back to the University (primarily because there is no money to pay out or give back). The athletic department would now be able to award a scholarship to another player (in the same sport as the departed player).
  5. Who is saying Akron offered guaranteed 4 year football scholarships up front?
  6. That would be a really safe assumption.
  7. Do you really think Boise State, BYU and UCF and etc have no walk ons on their roster?
  8. I heartily concur with your last sentence. I would wager that 99% of them could not answer a simple math question such as what is the third derivative of 5X(raised to the 4th power). Which reminds me, it's a shame we can't post superscripts on ZipsNation.
  9. Oakland would not be my first pick. They are normally better than their performance so far this season.
  10. Sounds like someone has been catching up on their football basics reading list. Keep up the good work.
  11. Excellent topic for a Sunday. Can any stadium or campus actually have a soul?
  12. This is getting confusing; have they moved the spring game to Norton? I too am looking forward to some real time reports from those in attendance. Make me feel like I'm there. What color jerseys are the offense and defense wearing? Are the QBs all adorned in red (or pink) jerseys? What's the temperature? Any player do something especially note worthy? Are the cheerleaders there? Send pictures. I am so pumped my belly button won't stop puckering and unpuckering.
  13. So you're saying he is about the same size as Dave Rimington. Let's sign him and convert him into a center.
  14. Just noticed an interesting/discouraging fact: The Zips are the only D1 team that has a losing record against non D1 teams. Ouch. Stop playing non D1 teams, Please. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi Here's how to solve it; drop the 3 non D1 teams, replace them with ( a home and home) against three of the closest/worst non-MAC D1 teams - pick from Team Current Rank Miles from Akron YSU 223 51 Oakland 242 192 Purdue Fort Wayne 244 210 Northern Kentucky 228 243
  15. So, I'm going to put you in the undecided camp.
  16. The following question may have been laughable a while ago, but given recent events I don't know. Highly regarded UofF QB, Emory Jones, is in the portal. If we could get him, would you?
  17. Some of their fans were unhappy that they made the switch, but apparently the Vols were looking to add a sure W to their schedule. Given what has been happening to the Zips roster, I wonder how they are feeling about that now?
  18. Very nice. One question; why isn't Alex Adams shown as a junior and senior in subsequent years?
  19. We have got to start scheduling weaker D3 teams. The Yellow Jackets beat the Zips in 7 innings today - 17 to 2.
  20. It was not unusual in the more distant past that the player had to at least pretend that he was doing something to receive money. Back in the 70s an Akron area player who I knew got a basketball scholarship from Kentucky. A booster there gave him a summer job paying $20 (that's 1970 (not 2022 dollars) per hour to watch horses. Seemed like a pretty sweet deal at the time, but adjusted for inflation I believe it falls a little short of the equivalent of a car and $400,000 per year.
  21. "We’ve got to continue to hone it and polish it up.” At least coach refered to "it" as opposed to the "doorknob."
  22. "Keep sawing wood" reminds me of "rowing the boat" which gives me a queasy stomach, but I guess it's better than "keep polishing the doorknob."
  23. I heard she was interested, but please proceed with caution Clark. Remember what happened between you and Sister Jean.
