Akron basketball is taking over the NCAA's March Madness SnapChat for the day. Give them a follow @MarchMadness.

BobCatAttack seems to be on melt down mode on not having the athletes that Akron does. Since OU last beat Akron in the MACC, Akron is 9-2 vs OU. Here is some interesting stats someone over there posted. 2012-'13: (0-3) 3 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +8pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -49pts. 2013-'14: (1-2) 2 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +4pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -13pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio +16pts. 2nd half: Ohio +/- 0pts. 2014-'15: (1-1) 1 loss- 1st half: Ohio -4pts. 2nd half: Ohio -8pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio -10pts. 2nd half: Ohio +11pts. 2015-'16: (0-2) 1st halves: Ohio -12pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -15pts. 2016-'17: (0-1) 1st half: Ohio -3pts. 2nd half: Ohio -12pts.

Last time these teams met, Akron made 20 3-pointers. I think Josh Williams hits 4 3-pointers to lead the Zips to victory.

The team generally travels the day before MAC games (not counting Kent, Toledo, and BG). -
Zips vs. Marshall- 12/17/16

There's been a few select tv games over the years where they allowed fans to fill in the bowl to look better on tv. I've been told by the ticketing office that they don't do this consistently because season ticket holders in the bowl complain and feel cheated after they paid good money for their good seats. -
I like the script Akron a lot. I hate the roo head and seal on the shorts. Looks very tacky to me. We continue to get in our own way of building our brand. Ever since someone decided to do away with Fear the Roo because they weren't involved in coming up with it, our brand has swirled around in an endless pool of branding failures, spitting out new, unrelated ideas on a yearly basis.

Thanks, I didn't have a link as I just got an alert on my phone.

Per Jon Rothstein Akron will be participating in the 2017 Diamond Head Classic. Other teams participating- Miami, USC, Davidson, Middle Tennessee, Utah St, New Mexico St, and Hawaii. This is already a better step up than this year's tournaments. Tournament is usually the week of Christmas in Hawaii. Some good quality teams involved.

Game 7—Western Michigan Broncos (2016)
tpsjugglerdude replied to skip-zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Really? We want to complain about possibly showing playoff Indians highlights? I've been in the President's box where everyone was huddled around the OSU game on all the tv's. Let's not pretend that everyone at the game are all diehard Zips fans. Let's make a better game day for the casual Zips fan. Many casual Zips fans are Cleveland fans so let's show them some love. When they're at the water cooler on Monday talking about the Indians game they can say they were at the Zips game and were still able to watch some highlights. -
He was 1-3 vs Akron. Not that big of a terror.

I believe FedEx just donated $1.5 million to Kent for their aviation school.

As someone who graduated with the last 5 years, I'all give my perspective why my fellow recent alumni are absent from games. 1) A big majority of the students never attended an athletic event when they were students, so why start when they have to start paying to attend a game? 2) Many friends from the AK Rowdies now live out of state (myself included). So out of the few diehard students who put up with the Ianello years, many of them can't make the games now, even though I know most of them still actively follow the Zips. 3) Recent grads have to start paying back student loans and it makes them sour towards the Akron brand. I've heard many people say "I'm never giving Akron a dime, I already owe them too much". I was in DC this weekend for the Browns game and ran into many Browns fans that made the trip during the weekend. Many of them were Akron or Kent alumni (sadly my wife went to that other school). On Saturday anytime we talked to one of them they were completely clueless that the Wagon Wheel game was going on. It's hard to compete to get people's attention when they are willing to travel 6 hours to see a probable winless team and not even know there is good football at their alma mater.

Game 3—@Marshall Thundering Herd
tpsjugglerdude replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
It's hilarious looking at the part of this thread that took place during the 1st quarter. Great to set scoring records at Marshal. Has Akron ever put up 65 points against a FBS team? -
Which ironically was Chryst's senior year.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why you would want to play a D3 team 7 games into the season. First game? Sure, I guess if you want one more tune up, but 7 games in??

Maybe they'll post an ad in their school paper looking for another QB.

AppinSC- I live over in Wilmington and might make it to an Ap St game this year with some friends who are alumni. Any place I should be sure to hit up? -

I believe Miami was short a game which gave Ap St leverage to get a home and home. Back to back years they will have ACC schools visiting (Wake next year). -
Should Akron Seek Another Conference?
tpsjugglerdude replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If the MAC expands, I believe that allows ESPN to reopen our contract negotiation. We could expand and get less money from them.
