  1. I guess I'll post this here to go with the last link shared. One of my UNCW friends posted this and it has a pretty nice write up about our Zips. http://herosports.com/news/2017-ncaa-tournament-bracket-bust-akron-illinois-st-fgcu-new-mexico-st-uncw-college-basketball
  2. It's also important to remember that when we were ranked, it also took some pandering. We sent brand new black jerseys to the voters with their Twitter handles on them, as well as sending them to popular ESPN hosts to get them to talk about the Zips. We also got people talking nationally about us by bluffing that we were going to include our player's Twitter handles on their jerseys instead of their last name.
  3. I would love for a H&H vs UNCW as I live in Wilmington now. I know of many Zips alumni in our area of NC who would travel to the game (many of us worked for athletics). The only top 100 teams UNCW has played are Clemson and Middle Tennessee and they lost to both. They will probably run through their conference.
  4. If EMU keeps winning, I wouldn't be surprised to see us as a Vegas underdog on our trip up there.
  5. Hey, we only missed 21 free throws and still won the game by 7. In recent years, if we missed 21 free throws we would lose the game. On to the next one.
  6. We have 1 vote and there's 10 teams in front of us, not 7. You're probably forgetting Minnesota, Kansas St, and USC who are listed as dropped from rankings, but still have more than one vote.
  7. Slow down there.
  8. Akron basketball is taking over the NCAA's March Madness SnapChat for the day. Give them a follow @MarchMadness.
  9. BobCatAttack seems to be on melt down mode on not having the athletes that Akron does. Since OU last beat Akron in the MACC, Akron is 9-2 vs OU. Here is some interesting stats someone over there posted. 2012-'13: (0-3) 3 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +8pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -49pts. 2013-'14: (1-2) 2 losses- 1st halves: Ohio +4pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -13pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio +16pts. 2nd half: Ohio +/- 0pts. 2014-'15: (1-1) 1 loss- 1st half: Ohio -4pts. 2nd half: Ohio -8pts. 1 win- 1st half: Ohio -10pts. 2nd half: Ohio +11pts. 2015-'16: (0-2) 1st halves: Ohio -12pts. 2nd halves: Ohio -15pts. 2016-'17: (0-1) 1st half: Ohio -3pts. 2nd half: Ohio -12pts.
  10. Last time these teams met, Akron made 20 3-pointers. I think Josh Williams hits 4 3-pointers to lead the Zips to victory.
  11. I was thinking of that game but said the wrong guy!
  12. Didn't Brett McClanahan drop 30 at the JAR one night?
  13. The team generally travels the day before MAC games (not counting Kent, Toledo, and BG).
  14. Best quote: "I've been to four finals in seven years with two different teams, both in the MAC. I thought it was time for a new conference with a level playing field and a full deck of cards." All 4 games were vs Akron. 4-0, 4-1, 1-0, and 2-1.
  15. There's been a few select tv games over the years where they allowed fans to fill in the bowl to look better on tv. I've been told by the ticketing office that they don't do this consistently because season ticket holders in the bowl complain and feel cheated after they paid good money for their good seats.
  16. I like the script Akron a lot. I hate the roo head and seal on the shorts. Looks very tacky to me. We continue to get in our own way of building our brand. Ever since someone decided to do away with Fear the Roo because they weren't involved in coming up with it, our brand has swirled around in an endless pool of branding failures, spitting out new, unrelated ideas on a yearly basis.
  17. Thanks, I didn't have a link as I just got an alert on my phone.
  18. Per Jon Rothstein Akron will be participating in the 2017 Diamond Head Classic. Other teams participating- Miami, USC, Davidson, Middle Tennessee, Utah St, New Mexico St, and Hawaii. This is already a better step up than this year's tournaments. Tournament is usually the week of Christmas in Hawaii. Some good quality teams involved.
  19. Better than the last time we were in SI...
  20. Really? We want to complain about possibly showing playoff Indians highlights? I've been in the President's box where everyone was huddled around the OSU game on all the tv's. Let's not pretend that everyone at the game are all diehard Zips fans. Let's make a better game day for the casual Zips fan. Many casual Zips fans are Cleveland fans so let's show them some love. When they're at the water cooler on Monday talking about the Indians game they can say they were at the Zips game and were still able to watch some highlights.
  21. He was 1-3 vs Akron. Not that big of a terror.
  22. I believe FedEx just donated $1.5 million to Kent for their aviation school.
  23. As someone who graduated with the last 5 years, I'all give my perspective why my fellow recent alumni are absent from games. 1) A big majority of the students never attended an athletic event when they were students, so why start when they have to start paying to attend a game? 2) Many friends from the AK Rowdies now live out of state (myself included). So out of the few diehard students who put up with the Ianello years, many of them can't make the games now, even though I know most of them still actively follow the Zips. 3) Recent grads have to start paying back student loans and it makes them sour towards the Akron brand. I've heard many people say "I'm never giving Akron a dime, I already owe them too much". I was in DC this weekend for the Browns game and ran into many Browns fans that made the trip during the weekend. Many of them were Akron or Kent alumni (sadly my wife went to that other school). On Saturday anytime we talked to one of them they were completely clueless that the Wagon Wheel game was going on. It's hard to compete to get people's attention when they are willing to travel 6 hours to see a probable winless team and not even know there is good football at their alma mater.
  24. It's hilarious looking at the part of this thread that took place during the 1st quarter. Great to set scoring records at Marshal. Has Akron ever put up 65 points against a FBS team?
  25. Which ironically was Chryst's senior year.
