Dr Z Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Akron Zips (20-4) @ Northern Illinois Huskies (16-8). Game on ESPN3. ARC MADNESS: Three-Point Rate Is At An All-Time High, But Can A Team Dependent On The Deep Ball Win A Title? The Wofford Terriers set an NCAA Division I record by shooting 17-of-21 three-pointers Monday night. Quote
Glib Shanley Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I'm getting my vote in early this time! http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=herman+edwards+that%27s+why+they+play+the+game&view=detail&mid=85A89420ED431C66950285A89420ED431C669502&FORM=VIRE5 Quote
kreed5120 Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 3-pt shooting has been a huge part of college basketball as far back as I can remember. Granted I'm only 26. It definitely beat the NBA to the party in that regard. The shorter distance and the fact a lot of smaller schools rely on it as an equalizer when facing larger schools has a lot to do with that. I'm still surprised to see that a player has taken 195 shots on the season and all 195 were 3-pointers. Quote

Granted I'm only 26. Have the Zips ever averaged 11.5 or more three pointers made per game as far back as you can remember? I'm so excited to have something other than "defensive" basketball to talk about when it comes to the Zips, you have no idea. Defensive basketball bores me to tears. When it comes to college basketball, points entertain me. Drop the BOMBS! Quote

The Zips are having their best year from the 3-pt line and makes and attempts across the NCAAM have been trending upwards. All I'm saying is NCAAM teams relying heavily on 3-pt shots for offense isn't some new phenomena. Quote
zippy5 Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 KD is embracing it too. That's why he's a great coach, he adapts to his players. Love seeing him get into it on the sidelines now when we're on one of our big runs. Quote
Dr Z Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 Zips pick up two more nationally televised games. More catching Zips fever? Quote
kreed5120 Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Nice seeing the Zips get some love. Getting a game on ESPN2 is pretty big news. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Another Saturday evening home game scrapped so we can get on CBS Ocho. It blows. I wonder if Saturday fall football will start having games moved to Friday evenings so we could get on The Ocho too? Quote

My wife works Friday evenings and I'm not venturing out in February with a 2.5 year old and 5 month old. Quote

zippy5 Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Welp my annual Saturday night game in Akron isn't happening this year. Usually meet up with some buddies I graduated with and go out downtown after the game and stay over. Stinks. Quote
skip-zip Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 It's looking like Josh should be able to go at NIU, but Big Dog is a big question mark. Quote
tboned Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Can anyone provide an injury update on Big Dog? Is he on crutches? Riding an electric scooter? A BIG electric scooter! Quote

Also, Josh Williams did not practice yesterday, but he is expected to play on Saturday. Quote

1981 grad Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 Last year Pat played so well after Tree left the program. This year he has some early injuries and his play has been inconsistent while Big Dog has been playing so well. The team needs to play the same whether it is Big Dog or Pat in the middle. The team needs to have confidence in Pat by getting him the ball and Pat needs to have confidence in himself and take it to the hoop. If Big Dog does not play this may be the game for Pat to regain his form from last year. Quote
LoyalZIP Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 I wouldn't look over NIU too much. They've had our number in that gym for a while now. Quote

NWAkron Posted February 13, 2016 Report Posted February 13, 2016 French and Dunn just said Big Dog is going to try and play. Quote
