It takes a couple of years to realize the value of HS signees, in most cases. I am not saying the program is a lost cause - I threw out my prediction, and we will see how close I am around Thanksgiving.

I don’t believe we are counting on any freshmen to start this year. The #1 ranking included HS/JUCO/ and portal. Last year, we had two portal players become All-MAC and another two are preseason All-MAC this year. It’s happening….

I will be happy to be wrong, but let's see where things are in November.

I guess I would rather be realistic and not throw a fit when the Zips don't do as well as the hype would lead people to believe.

I do realize that getting  hyped about unrealistic expectations and then dissolving into vitriolic diatribes is a way of life in NE Ohio, however.

I guess “realistic” is in the eye of the beholder. Below are other MAC teams that have made similar leaps in the win column that I’m expecting for this season. There is no hype for this program outside of myself, some others on the board, and two media outlets that actually follow MAC football to some degree. Even Joe Moorhead has been very coy this offseason. He clearly knows he has something cooking. Every other outlet and fanbase seems to think Akron will be a bottom dweller again, yet not a single one of them have actually paid much attention to what this staff has done on the recruiting trail since they’ve been here. Also guessing they didn’t watch many of the games last year…

CMU:

2018 - 1

2019 - 8

EMU:

2015 - 1

2016 - 7

Kent:

2018 - 2

2019 - 7

Miami:

2009 - 1

2010 - 10

NIU:

2020 - 0

2021 - 9

Ohio:

2021 - 3

2022 - 10

WMU:

2013 - 1

2014 - 8

If the casual fan could get past the name on the jersey, they might see “realistic expectations” may not be so realistic.

As for the diatribes of Ohio, I haven’t lived here long enough to have an informed opinion.

MAC East pre-season coaches' poll:

1. Ohio (9) – 63 points
2. Miami (2) – 52 points
3. Buffalo (1) – 51 points
4. Bowling Green – 35 points
5. Akron – 26 points
6. Kent State – 19 points

I don't think my 3-win prediction is all that different from the mainstream outlook.

Yes, exactly my point.

Just fyi, 2019-2021 was under a different coaching staff. Less than 30 players remain on the roster from that regime.

Anyway, I’ll stop at this point. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. We are obviously at different ends of the spectrum here.

It's on the low side, albeit not too far off as you stated from the mainstream/national outlook.

However, I think that outlook is shifting as people dive deeper into the program. Sportsbooks are shifting more heavily towards 4+ wins, for example.

We were 2-3 bounces away from 2-3 more wins last year.

Truthfully, there will probably be a lot of games that can go either way. Winning 1 or 2 of those early could create the shift needed to get to the 4-6 win category.

The world is slowly but surely being set right again. PCCC sucks and there's optimism for Akron.

I muted BGB a while back for some reason. I think I got frustrated by all of his rankings without any justification. That being said, I did hear him on a podcast a while back talking about the MAC and I think his final standings is a solid take.

Not too shabby of a job with the tiers either. Penn State has a tough road with Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State, and Michigan so I’ll be surprised if they make the CFP. FSU has LSU and Clemson to deal with, so as long as they don’t slip up elsewhere, they should have one of their better seasons in a long time. Remains to be seen if they are CFP material, but I’m not buying the national media hype.

Some other adjustments I would have made is Akron moved up a tier. Boston College and Mississippi State swapped. UMASS moved up a tier.

I thought it odd that they have Buffalo in the next tier up, but Akron finishing ahead of them in the MAC.

Understandably so. Most of it is click-bait crap. But he gets people talking and has kept people talking all summer so that is cool. Knows more

about the MAC than most national people who fake it.

As everybody knows I don't normally comment in the pre-season. Need to see guys play against quality competition. I see a number of folks being VERY optinistic about this season. I think we will know in September whether Joe has really started to turned this thing around. I will be real curious to see how they stack up against Temple. Don't play close against Morgan State. I am not a big Irons fan so I want to see how much the coaches have been able to get out of him. If the D can cover up for the line, the Offense may be able to score enough  to get to...6-6?
