Article on Ali's appeal, his mental health issues and graduation timeline (spring)-

Some bad news in this article. If he only needs 8 credits to graduate and isn’t set to graduate until the spring, the U most not be offering a class he needs this semester.

without knowing full details in either situation, sure seems like BS that Aziz would get cleared but not Ali. Who did he have any sort of relationship with at Cinci!?

I don’t think this is necessarily bad news.

What is bad news is that a young man is suffering from mental health issues and the NCAA doesn’t care. That is despicable.

He needs 8 credits in the spring semester to graduate. He is already carrying a full class load this semester.

That's disappointing.  This would be an elite team with him in the mix.  He's more versatile than Sammy.

Man did I love what the Zips would do on defense w/ Freeman down low & Ali and Dawson on the wings.  TOUGH!

At least we'll have he and Dawson on the wings next year as we break in two new bigs to replace Freeman.

I did not know that Ali had suffered 2 severe concussions at Butler last year.  My son suffered a severe concussion while playing soccer and it did affect him mentally after the concussion.  It seems like Akron's argument is that Akron will give him the support he needs in order to be successful where Butler did not meet these needs.   I think Akron would have a stronger argument if Ali was from Akron and he needed the family support instead of moving away from the family support.  As basketball fans we only see these players as athletes and not individuals who will need to navigate life after basketball.  Regardless if Ali plays this year or next year, I hope he gets his degree and learns to deal with his mental issues in order that he can be successful post basketball.

Hearing more details on this, especially the two concussions, really pisses me off more. What a corrupt, piece of $#@! organization. The growing number of evil individuals in this world that love to F around with people's lives because they can is alarming.

Bilas is 100% correct. NCAA sets the guidelines, guidelines are met, end of story. To interject subjectiveness is an abhorrent abuse of power.

Has the MAC released a statement? Feels like the governing conference body should probably jump in and fight for one of their members schools. Doubt we'll hear anything though because the MAC leadership sucks Balls (State).

I hope so as well, but crap like this only seems to go in favor of big programs.

I did not want to say this, but you are correct. Ali met every stipulation that the NCAA put forth. If this was Duke/Kansas/Ect, he would be playing tonight!

If this was Kansas, Bill Self would've hooked him up with Snoop Dogg, strippers, and weed, then receive no punishment.

Legal action is a must. Guthrie, Groce, Miller all need to keep pushing and refuse to just accept this.

Bandaogo was represented by the Morningstar Law Group of Raleigh, NC, who also represented North Carolina wide receiver Tez Walker, a two-time football transfer declared eligible for North Carolina football in October.  In both cases once the players hired legal counsel the NCAA cited "new information" and reversed their decisions.

They do not want to go to court.

Two things that jumped out at me from the article-

1)  "...certainly we tried to go through the process in a very respectful and professional manner."  Time to give that up and turn on the heat.

2)  "He is traveling with us to Vegas," Groce said. "... I love the kid."  I think that show you the type of family relationships Groce builds with the kids on the team and I think that's fantastic.

Ali's time at Butler must have truly been a train wreck ... understanding he (apparently) left Akron academically eligible as a junior ... he played his fourth season at Butler (apparently eligible) then returns to Akron for his fifth season and has two (or maybe just one) academic summer session, plus a fall semester, and still needs eight more spring credits to become a grad student???

This points to a very bad academic year at Butler, which is something the NCAA should be taking a hard look at, IMO. Ali basically needs/needed what looks like almost a full year academic load to become eligible at Akron. While his mental health is certainly part of the issue, he was academically eligible to play last year at Butler, and it seems like ... mental health aside ... it's questionable if Ali would be academically eligible now even with NCAA mental health clearance, unless I'm missing something.

Something doesn't add up. Butler and the NCAA should clear this mess.

I think a primary factor in deciding whether to allow a kid's immediate transfer is the position of the school from which the kid is transferring.  Certainly, this is the primary party being potentially injured by the transfer.  Here, Butler seems to be a proponent of allowing the transfer.

The question isn't being allowed to transfer ... that's not a problem. The question is being allowed to play. Butler gets to use his scholarship, not skin off their nose. Akron takes all the hits ... scholarship and (loss of) eligibility.

That what I meant, immediately play.  He's obviously here.
