Game 12- St. Bonaventure

Groce let them play in the flow of the game.  After attempting to set up a play the two previous timeouts that failed to even get a shot, why stop the flow an attempt that again.  Ali Ali and Freeman can out play most of the MAC themselves.  It’s really sad how far the conference has slipped.

Akron shouldn’t have lost this one.  Grose over coaches and Akron’s guards aren’t very good. Grose called three timeouts in the last six minutes and two of the three results in turnovers without a shot and the last possession of the game as god awful. Pitiful inbounds play. A game they should have won. The MAC is absolutely horrible.

It's Groce. G-R-O-C-E. If you're going to be an ass, use proper spelling.

Groce doesn't "over-coach". The succession rate of the plays he calls during timeouts can be questioned, but that's an execution issue - not an over-coaching issue. We are lacking guard play, you are correct, which means Groce should absolutely be calling timeouts to draw up plays and make sure the team is on the same page. If you have a solid floor general, those timeouts aren't as necessary. The name of the game is putting the ball in the hoop more often than your opponent. We simply didn't do that. One of the guards needs to figure out how to step up as a scorer next to Freeman, Ali Ali, and Tribble. We were right there at the end with one of the most experienced teams in the country. Pretty good showing that will sharpen our March iron.

You should worry about scoring more than 3 points against Missouri; leave the Akron criticism to us Akron fans.

Well my bad on the spelling, if you have questionable guards why would you think they will execute off of a timeout?  Get ball in Ali Ali’s hands going downhill.  He over coached, the players didn’t execute but St. Bonnie had a response off of each timeout.  As for Ohio State they looked awful.  Maybe someday the Zips will return to a bowl game.  I’m a MAC fan, grew up in BG but graduated from Ohio State.  Akron is clearly the best team in the MAC but the conference is simply terrible.  This would have been a nice win for the Zips and improved seeding for them assuming they win the tournament.  Looking at a 14 seed at best.  The best win in the MAC might be Miami’s win over Vermont.

You do realize Ali is one of Akron's starting guards, right?  The inbounder was their most dependable guard passing the ball into Ali.   Unfortunately, the pass got deflected.

Are you finished? Any other wisdom you wish to impart on us?

Seems way too many close Zips losses against upper tier competition. I  thought in a year where we are so senior- and talent-heavy we could beat a team like St Bonny on a neutral court. Instead…another one in the loss column.

St. B may be one of the only older teams than the Zips in the NCAA.
