Tai Perkins' Westerville North team beat Perry 78-46 in the D-2 state championship game Friday night. Tai had 12 first half points & finished w/ 19.

Westerville North lost 2 of their 1st 3 games but then went undefeated the rest of the season mostly blowing teams out. I think they're probably the best team in the state regardless of division.

knowing what we know now as far as returners coming back, do anything of these 2 freshman see the court. are they future superstars like Sharron Young, or are they good Role pieces that have to develop.  I don't know the pulse on highschool hoops to know... can anyone give an educated guess. do we factor the 2 Westerville kids into the rotation next season.

Tough to see how they’d fit in the rotation with as much depth as we are returning. That’s not a knock on them though.

I think Josh Henderson will be a superstar. 6'5" and can stroke it from 5 feet behind the line.

Tai Perkins is tough & won D2 POY in the Central Ohio Region, but his team was so deep it was kinda hard for me to gauge how good he really is.  But to win POY... he's gotta be legit.

I wouldn't expect either to play next year b/c of our returning depth, but @Illini Zip made a good point that Groce doesn't redshirt PG's (Tai Perkins) and after Illini Zip pointed that out I think he's right; I don't remember Groce redshirting a PG.

Has he ever had an abundance of talented PGs that he needed to redshirt any?

I can’t speak of his time at Ohio U, but I know that wasn’t the case at Illinois. Actually, the combination of point guard injury and too many lost point guard recruiting battles (for a host of reasons) was in my opinion the main reason Groce failed to make the NCAAT 4 of his 5 seasons and was let go.

We will have a 15 man roster this year. We could use a big, mature wing and a big bodied guard. If the staff choose’s to fill all of those positions with transfers I predict Perkins will redshirt. There would be just too many players ahead of him. If one of the acquisitions is a high school recruit (likely to redshirt) I predict Perkins will play some. There’s benefit in having him go through early growing pains next year when Tavari and Young will be anchoring the ship.

If you think a player can help you, even slightly, it doesn't make sense to redshirt them. I'm not sure what the statistics are, but the percentage of 5th year seniors who are still with the team who recruited them out of high school has to be low.

I always assumed part of the redshirt process was being respectful to the players in not burning a year of eligibility if he's not going to see the floor.
