I think Kalkbrenner would eat us alive on the inside.

True, but we match up better shooting wise this year. He ate us alive last year and we still could've won if we had better shooters.

If about 25 teams or so disband their programs or have tragic plane crashes, we could grab a 7 seed

Lunardi and the ESPN honks would still find a way to put Syracuse ahead of us. 😂

Maybe that was intentional on our part since few outside our circle would know what the "A" stands for. 🤔 I still think the A needs to have Akron or Zips with it somewhere most of the time anyway.

This is an interesting topic: Are we really good because after the OOC schedule we improved a great deal or do we appear to be good because the MAC sucks.  My answer: time will tell.  Even good teams will lose against bad teams.  However, if this team is really good, lets win the rest of the games.  A really good Akron team should be able to run out the rest of the schedule.  Lets win at Northern Illinois and at Kent and then continue this conversation.

After the regular season and going 17-1 in the MAC, I think we are a good team in a bad conference.  When you look at our ratings on Men's College Basketball Power Index we are ranked 114 but our strength of schedule is 208.  We had the loss at Ohio and were really never in that game.  We had enough talent to win games but we certainly did not stomp on our opponents late in the season.  We need to win our 3 games in Cleveland and hopefully get our first NCAA tourney win.

BPI + KPI + NET + KENPOM + SOR + TOR + WAB and divide by 7.

What's interesting about this is ... the original standard, the RPI ... is not part of the equation. Indeed, it is mostly forgotten. But it still lives and offers some interesting insights.

First, the MAC is not as bad here as everywhere else with a Conference RPI of 16.

Second, three MAC teams are ranked 101 or higher (Akron, 45)

Third, with a Top 50 RPI the Zips could be considered a NCAA bubble team, although there are no quality (Top 100) wins to support this.

That said, going 17-1 in the MAC should carry some weight in and of itself. That 2002 Kent team went 17-1 and had no quality non-con wins to speak of, either.

Although, Ball State, Marshall, BG and Miami were all highly regarded 2002 MAC teams -- unlike the rank and file this season.

I'm no math major ... so the pluses and minuses for all these different rankings is above my head. I grew up with the RPI and Sagarin. One would guess that, over time, other measurements would evolve. Not saying one is better than another. Just saying it's still out there for those who wish to check it out and compare.
