Around the MAC

If Akron is the Dodgers, he must see the writing on the wall that the Yankees (UMass) are coming to town and at best he'll be 3rd fiddle in the MAC. More likely 4th or 5th as Miami is beginning to throw money at hoops.

Akron, UMass, and Miami could become something special. Miami is getting the new arena and as long as they retain Steele, they'll be competitive.

I stumbled on Albany is Senderoff's alma mater. I kind of jokingly discounted it earlier, but maybe there would be some desire there. Could also just be a ploy of him trying to get an extension and pay raise from KSU as well.

According to someone who covered his press conference Friday night, Pinky said he won't be watching the championship game because he's "miserable." He has looked miserable at Kent ever since his player fouled Tribble while up 1 with a few seconds to go in the MAC Championship. His press conference about Akron being the Yankees/Dodgers was odd and whiny, but also quite telling as to the state of Kent basketball/athletics. Miami OH has NIL for basketball and UMass coming in is about to be a rude awakening for most of the MAC. Albany being his alma mater was also something I found earlier when reading about the potential move, and I already thought it would be a legitimate possibility since he's from NY. As long as Kent doesn't luck into the Sean Lewis of CBB, TOS to PCCC would be hilarious. Quite frankly, I don't think they'd be a very attractive destination for any quality candidates as one of the main questions people will be asking is why the winningest coach in program history decided to leave on his own terms. The difference between that question being asked for Akron & Kent: Bud Wentz isn't answering for Kent.

And the NBA is a terrible product. It's unwatchable to me, and I've always enjoyed watching basketball.

I went to see an NBA game for the first time in many years a couple of Fridays ago when the Cavs came to Charlotte. It was mostly good entertainment with nonsense woven through.

I talk a lot on this board about how hard it is to be an in person fan now. The NBA makes it very difficult. First, the incessant music played during game action is obnoxious. The NBA isn't a great product, but it's good enough that they don't need that nonsense. Am I the only person who likes the sound of sneakers squeaking on the floor?

Second, the replays. Fans have to spend too much time watching refs stare at TV screens. The illusion is that they get the calls right. There are plenty of times I don't agree with the replay decision. An NBA game shouldn't last almost 3 hours.

Third, I had no idea there was a defensive three second call. It's no wonder NBA players get more layups than the Globetrotters against the Washington Generals. A dunk used to be a cool thing. Now they happen every few minutes. Makes the rare mid range jump shot exciting in comparison.

Maybe I'm too old, but I remember the NBA being a better product.

The NBA is better now than what it was 5-10 years ago. You used to know exactly which 2-3 teams were the real contenders before the season even started, which made the regular season irrelevant as all the other teams were competing for 4th or 5th place. I remember penciling in Cavs-Warriors finals for 3 straight years, which proved to be true. At least now you don't have the same teams making the Finals every year.

I still much prefer the college game, but even that is fading. I used to be a fan of college basketball as a whole and watch other games throughout the season. NIL has kind of destroyed my love for the game. I'm more just an Akron fan these days as I quit watching the random games.

I went to one Cavs game this year, and it was like a circus.  sensory stimulation everywhere.

Couldn’t agree more and for me it all started with the music playing constantly - isn’t this about the game. It has more of a WWE, Harlem Globetrotters feel. You are not the only one who relishes in the sneakers on the floor.

Couple other things that I believe leave the NBA closer to ‘entertainment’ than accountable professional sports league when compared to NFL/MLB is the load management, and the scores hitting All Star level tallies night in and night out. Even in the playoffs the defensive juggernauts seem to have gone by the wayside.

Portal season- Seth Hubbard and Javan Simmons are set to depart from Toledo, Marcus Johnson is leaving Bowling Green, and Craft is leaving Miami.

The annual MAC talent exodus is underway.  Sigh.

I wish Javon Simmons a Payton Sparks like career trajectory.
