On the post game Groce said that WMU is the best offensive rebounding team in the MAC by rebounding percentage. As long as we hold our own on the glass and don't make too many unforced errors, we should be able to comfortably win.

To toot my own horn I stated that WMU path to staying in the game was getting offensive rebounds, which they have been able to do. Usually the better team can pull away in the final 10 minutes. The longer WMU hangs around, the more they will have confidence they can win. Lets go on a run and put this game out of reach.

Sound rebounding fundamentals and some fortunate long bounces add up.

Groce was not happy with the rebounding, defense or effort by the Zips.  Essentially said that WMU was more physical and put forth a greater effort and that the Zips won due to their shooting.

It is one thing to box out.  However, you still have to go to the ball strong.  We needed everyone to rebound tonight and on many WMU got numerous offensive rebounds because we were flat footed.  I watched Hardman and he was just really slow to the ball and kept getting beat on the rebound.  I thought WMU played really well offensively driving to the basket and they shot the ball well.  Nate is the man in the clutch.  When they got the lead down to 4 he made some clutch baskets.  The team played really well offensively but WMU seemed to be playing downhill to the basket in the 2nd half.  The refs called nothing in the first half and everything in the 2nd half.  The Zips had 2 foul shots in the first half and probably 15 in the 2nd half.  I thought WMU got tired in the 2nd half and started to miss foul shots.  It may not be pretty but the streak continues.

Zips shot 67% from the field and Amani was 7 of 7 in 12 minutes of play but 0-2 from the line.  Bowen 4 for 4.  The game was moving so fast I think I missed 2 of those.

Problem stat:  12 turnovers from the starters.

Zips were behind 3-2, and after that Broncos got as close as 3 with 9:17 left in 2nd.  Technical on Bronco bench.  Zips already had 81 points.

Our issue is height. Didn't need a newly-fabricated stat ("effective height?") to figure that out.

Our interior is Lyles, Marvin and Okonkwo. Lyles is small, Okonkwo if offensively challenged, and Marvin is about 186 lbs.

Too bad we don't have Freeman this season...it would have been a hell of line up posting him down low, him with our guards and wings on the perimeter.

I still have nightmares thinking about how Saint Mary's sliced and diced us earlier in the season. We were helpless to stop them. Luckily the MAC doesn't have anyone similar.

Our outside shooting has come a long way over the course of the season. Other than Marvin and Okonkwo, any of them can go off on a 3-point tear. I think that can carry us to another MAC championship banner. But is it enough to win an NCAA tourney game?

It's nice to have those concerns, and opposed to the rest of the MAC.

The T was on the coach.  After they got it down to 3 he huddled his team and literally exploded at the ref and was held back by his players.  He slammed the clipboard on the ground and the ref heard it and then gave the coach a T.  I have no idea what got the coach so mad but somebody indicated one of his players was bleeding and he was upset that there was no foul called.

I missed all of that but the huddle may have obstructed the view.  Article and photos in PD and ABJ:

One more thought from a wise Zips fan (not myself), as the streak extends and with easy wins with OU, Kent, and Miami, we expect a blow out every game.  WMU win felt more like a loss?  or disappointment?  Miami recovered from a shellacking at the JAR.  Zips are going to hit a couple bumps before March 13.

I actually think Freeman leaving helped some of these guys develop. When you have a talent like Freeman it becomes easy at times to just run the offense through him and let him do his thing. With him gone we were forced to redevelop our offense and players were kind of just tossed off the boat and forced to either learn to swim or drown.

Obviously with Freeman we would be a better team. I'm just not sure we would have seen our guards develop the way they have if he was still here.
