Game 13- Concord

The Zips get a 10 days Christmas break before Concord comes to the JAR on December 29th. 

 

Concord currently stands at 6-3, playing a bunch of teams that belong on Captain’s list of teams he’s never heard of, including Frostburg State.   In the confusing geography department, they’ve also played California of Indiana and Indiana of Pennsylvania. 

 

Kraig Gilbert, a 6’8” sophomore forward leads the Grapes in scoring at 19.2 ppg.  6’8” junior forward Boubacar Djigo averages a whopping 14.2 rpg to go along with 14.2 ppg.  He played for Lutheran West in high school.

Frostburg St is in Western Maryland. Both California University and Indiana University are schools in Pennsylvania. I sometimes will pass near all three on trips to Akron and back. And Concord is the mountain lions, but quite honestly their symbol sort of does look like a bunch of grapes. 😂

Will the Zips come out of the break with the same defensive minded starting lineup we saw against EMU or has the team gotten the message and we'll see a return to the prior starting lineup?

I would stick with the new rotation. At least for now. I don’t trust that the new defensive effort is here to stay just yet.

I would imagine we would see the same starters as last game, especially since it’s against concord. It seems like it would work out for a 2 game trial and then revert back to the original if it won’t stick

Actually, no. Official attendance, maybe. Which begs the question, when was the last time the official attendance was less than 1,000 outside of covid?

I would have to imagine Akron has 1k season ticket holders and has had that for quite a few years. Even if they don't show they will still appear in the official attendance.

That's what I'm thinking but the attendance for PSU-Shenango was only 1,108 and that was with students in attendance while today's game is during winter break. So, I think it's gonna be close. 😅

There weren’t many students at the game for that one. I think somehow we will get 1,050+ for today

They offered discounted season tickets as stocking stuffers. Even if we were slightly under 1k season ticket holders at the start of the season we have probably added a few dozen since then.

Good point! I'm ready for a nice crowd at the JAR but I don't think that's gonna happen until the Kent game on January 30th. Will they bring the north upper baseline seats back for that game? I would think so.

The Grape drew 1550 in 2022.  1542 in precounted season tickets and 8 other.

The student for a day tickets were a good idea, looks like a large group of grade schoolers in that section today
