I think Eric goes back to cincy area.
NKU

maybe UC

be closer to his parents.
I don’t think he goes to CoC.  To far for family to travel.

As long as it's not Miami. Where his dad happened to play.

I get that a talented college basketball player would want to enter the portal to gauge his value.  That being said, I'll be a little aggravated if Eric leaves after UA brought in his brother and made that experience possible.

Why??   His brother is graduating!!
that was so last year.
we’re already into next season.  New interests, new opportunities.   This is today’s sports.  The rent is due everyday

So either John is stealing them which pisses me off, or they’re taking a really big risk. Can’t imagine their market is much more than what we’re able to pay them, and they could both be looking at pretty substantial pay days if they show what they can do being a focal point of a team.

I think Eric's value will be much higher than Young's and will be the one less likely to return. Nothing in his game is great at this stage, but he does a lot of things well with no obvious flaws. Add in his 6'6" size and the fact he can guard positions 1-4 and he fits the positionless basketball style most teams wish to play.

I feel like we had a great lineage from LCJ and Co down to this group with mentorship etc and we've lost that link if they both go. So this sucks

I think LCJ still had 1 year of eligibility remaining when he decided to go play overseas. They allow other pros to come play college ball. Let's bring LCJ back to reestablish that culture.

To clarify I doubt NCAA wouldn't allow it.

Wait, I thought hiring Ford was going to keep the program continuity going?

Wishful thinking unfortunately. The second Groce left, I had a feeling it was the end of our run. Hopefully he enjoys the nicer weather down there.

Hate these types of takes. Go look at the first page of this thread. The MAC is being DECIMATED by the Portal. Who knows who comes back eventually, but at the moment, Miami OH is the favorite and then it's a bunch - A BUNCH - of question marks. The only returning players so far from the All MAC First, Second, & Teams are Elmer and Skaljac.

Trust in Ford and Wentz.

I definitely agree here. The cupboard was very bare when Groce inherited this program and he had us ready to compete at the top of the MAC by year 3. With the portal now your program can be decimated quicker, but it can also be rebuilt quicker. I wouldn't see why we couldn't be in a position to compete in year 1 or at least by year 2.

Same here! They have been doing this for a while now and know how to build. They obviously weren’t blindsided and knew this was what would be coming and got ahead of it yesterday on social media BEFORE the portal announcements came.

Also, who’s to say Bud himself didn’t encourage the guys to explore their value and then come back and give Akron a chance to keep them (aka we’ll do our best to match your true market value). Obviously they’d prefer to not have them go in the portal but I have to imagine they would welcome them back with open arms and want to show they care about what’s best for the athlete and their family - similar to Groce encouraging Nate.

Not sure where to put this, but here seems semi pertinent.

I wouldn't be surprised if Akron is closer to UB now. I haven't seen details behind Ford's deal, but I can't imagine he's making what Groce did this past season.

Im sure Akron is in the middle.   Didn’t Groce’s salary accommodate us as he still had income or a buyout from Illinois?

That was only true for his first 2, maybe 3 seasons at Akron.

Only Skaljac remains (for now).
