Good for him. sidenote. love the beef and cheddar and curly fries..... classic meal Sounds like they chose well. So what is this guy's offensive philosophy? What do we expect to see? 😄 Per your link, ESPN is "reporting" that RP7 is still QB1 (and he's still on the GoZips roster) Edited August 27 by ZippyRulz Quote
ZippyDoo Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 nothing has been said publicly to say otherwise, even joe moe at the mac media said reese won the job... people on here have just heard that his eligibility is in question. some have even heard he didn't take any reps in either scrimmage or for the past couple weeks. first game is a week away so i guess we will find out soon enough 1 Quote

He got season tickets a few years before the Info opened. There are three of us that grew up in Ellet and then went to UA and attended the games. This is so cool! 11 Quote
kreed5120 Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 Considering the first game is 2 days away it would seem likely that jersey deal never materialized. Assuming Wendy's was the national company that reached out about it originally they must have opted into a less expensive, or at least shorter term deal, to get naming rights to the campaign along with likely some signage. At this stage I'm not sure why they just wouldn't try to sell it to Kaulig at a discounted rate for 1 year to both show their appreciation for his contributions over the years and to buy themselves some time to find a longer term sponsor. Some money is better than no money. 2 Quote

Then saw how quickly it died down after a "celebrity" wasn't chosen and backed out. As Zips fans we think it's great that one of us made the cut. But nobody outside really cares anymore. Quote

My guess was it was Arby's, but they didn't want to commit 6 figures each year for the next 3-5 years so they brokered sponsoring the promotion specifically as that's what they really wanted to have their named attached to anyways. Yes, I have seen some box openings that were very elaborately put together in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if we decided to send it because the promotion went viral and Gruden bought a ticket/promoted the event. We just put in what we had available at the time. It was a bit discouraging that he had to spend so much time talking about the city and other things outside the football program as frankly we don't have the volume of historical talent that many other programs have produced. Captain Kangaroo Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 You know Akron had to have written the teleprompter script. Why does Gruden avoid mentioning Dwight Smith? No way it’s just an accidental oversight. 1 1 Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted September 5 Report Posted September 5 One last note on the Gruden diatribe - he mentioned Ara Parseghian as a Zip?! He was born in Akron, and enrolled at Akron, but didn’t attend classes…he instead enlisted in the Army (WWll). Dwight Smith wins him a Super Bowl and he pimps Ara Parseghian? 1 Quote

I don't think Gruden has both oars in the water these days. 1 Quote
