There has been no official announcement. Probably because they are trying everything they can to secure his eligibility. From what I have heard it doesn't look good. We have been thru worse situations and still we move forward. If Poff is gone my attitude is next man up. Put a team around him and don't let this defeat us. The games have yet to be played. Live up to Jim Dennison's PMA.

Any idea what the exact issue is? Like a medical redshirt get denied or what?

It’s a shame because he seemed like the first QB that Joe has gotten that truly fit his system - a good passer that was also mobile. Finley was a good passer but not very mobile, Bullock and Irons could run but weren’t good passers.

Where is the evidence here? Did someone see something, talk to someone, regarding Poff’s eligibility? It was such huge news when he was recruited. It had to have been carefully vetted, right?

I have heard from a few different sources that is doesn't look good for Reese to be the Zips QB this fall.

Maybe something changes...but as of 8/24/26...it doesn't look good.

This is a fire-able offense to not find this out until right now imo

I was poking around using AI (Gemini) to inquire why he might be ineligible, trying out different hypotheses as to why, and nothing came up. Specifically, why would he be ineligible (if in fact he is ineligible)?

Red shirted at Old Dominion

RFr at Albany

RSo at Albany

RJr at Miami

RSr at North Texas

Supposedly no reps at either scrimmage....

Surely there was a reason they expected him to be eligible. So, what's changed since then?

non-existent.  huge whiff by all involved in recruiting R.P.

What's the story with this? I saw many months ago that we had a commitment from a highly regarded QB prospect. Did that not end up materializing?

I follow Zips basketball and soccer more closely, but still want to see football do well for a change.

Old Dominion - 2020 season/Covid year. I believe all enrollees this season received an extra year of eligibility.

2021 - “Year 1” based on Covid extension,

2022 - “Year 2”

2023 - assuming redshirt year to use here or North Texas.

2024 - Redshirt Jr year

2025 - Redshirt Sr year

2026  - not seeing a path to eligibility unless a medical redshirt was applied somewhere.

According to 247, Reese graduated HS in 2020 so he couldn't play college ball in 2020....

He would have graduated in May I assume, so definitely could’ve/should’ve  been on the roster for the 2020 season.

edit: per ODU’s website, he was listed on the roster for the 2020 season.
