  1. Past hour
  2. At this point, would he be eligible for a medical redshirt if he doesn't play again this season? If so, might as well do that...what's the point of playing now? Then the question is, will he even come back here next season?
  3. I believe this is the last year of Gensler's contract so the team needs to perform.
  4. I actually spent some time looking at the team last week. I feel Jessie Joaquim and Macey Fegan will be a formidable front court duo. I think a lot of what will determine this years team success will be what they get out of their guards and what depth they have behind Jessie and Macey.
  5. I thought this part was particularly telling. When Ball State hired Chris Capko this offseason, his contract included a guaranteed $1 million in NIL spending. I’m increasingly convinced that some of the programs at the bottom of the MAC in football are realizing that the resources required to be even moderately competitive, even at the G6 level, are becoming unattainable. They’re looking at the success Akron and Miami have had, with Kent State to a lesser extent, and recognizing that their investment dollars can go much further in basketball. "A (basketball) league on the rise Bud Wentz may be responsible for saving MAC basketball, or at least giving it a second life as the MAC enters an interesting time in its history with some of its oldest members flirting with leaving. When athletes profiting off their name, image, and likeness became legal five years ago, nobody in the MAC, or NCAA as a whole, knew what to expect. One basketball program’s biggest booster saw the writing on the wall, though. Bud Wentz immediately made it clear to John Groce that NIL is real and it is going to matter. Groce was skeptical at best, but would quickly change his tune. After the 2023-2024 season where the Zips won their first of three MAC Tournament Championships in a row, everyone (myself very much included) expected the program to take a substantial step back the next season after the graduation of the most decorated senior class in program history. A month after cutting down the nets at Rocket Quicken FieldHouse Arena, Akron landed the best transfer class in the MAC by a wide margin and they were off to the races again. Now, you see Miami investing in their programs and it is paying off dividends. Rob Senderoff flirted with the idea of leaving Kent State until his administration gave into his NIL demands. MAC basketball is back to being as competitive as it once was in the early 2000s, and that should make for an exciting 2026-2027 season."
  6. My only thought on this game is that your ongoing enthusiasm is heroic, especially given the state of the program.
  7. Bowden didn't just take us to a bowl game, Brookhart did that. Bowden won us a bowl game...the only D-1A coach to do that for us.
  8. Then the responsible thing to do would have been to wait and see. The grass is not always greener, and with Akron football, the grass has never been greener...
  9. Nice article from the Beacon/Ohio.com- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2026/11/02/akron-zips-womens-basketball-season-preview-mac/92548977007/
  10. I think it's a combination. There's no one from the press "digging" and programs are generally reluctant to disclose. Burton was quite mobile in high school and had a very nice shot. I'm hoping he gets healthy and can stay on the floor.
  11. https://akronzippedup.substack.com/p/zips-mens-basketball-ready-for-a?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web Our Zipped Up weighs in on the new season.
  12. Today
  13. I think there's a combo of "he could use more tape" and "why risk getting hurt for this"
  14. Nowadays the only thing I'm occasionally doing at 3 a.m. is taking a leak.
  15. TBF playing a game at 3AM probably means neither team was performing anywhere close to 100%. Probably not a great barometer of performance.
  16. Coach Ford said post-game that Chabi has been working hard on his shot and as long as he works hard on the boards, defensively, and in the paint, he's ok with Chabi taking 1-2 3s a game. Burton is quite different because he was a pretty good 3P shooter in high school.
  17. It may mean nothing, but Chabi had never attempted a 3 in his collegiate career (80 games) and then I believe attempted two in the YSU scrimmage.
  18. Showing a photo a Burton "warming up" by shooting a 3 is A+ conversation fodder by the program. Not only does it lend the question on if he'll play, but showing they're going to use him to stretch the floor is going to throw a wrench in some opponents' game plans lol. Like @kreed5120 said, he was nonexistent outside the paint at WMU.
  19. Arkansas State might be the play if Toledo's exhibition vs NIU was any legitimate indication. New conference, same story for NIU. The Horizon League's new boat anchor is off to a hot start. (The anchor is NIU; the Flying Wasp is the Horizon League)
  20. Genuine question - is it guarded, or do we just not have anyone covering that team that tries hard enough to get this information? The best coverage of Zips Athletics seems to come from regular fans/bloggers IMO, and they likely don't have the access to find out. Most local media only come around for the MAC and NCAA Tournaments.
  21. Akron stays at #4 in top drawer soccer https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men
  22. In today's college football, he'd have three bowl games, too.
  23. 2-9, 4-7, 2-9, 4-7, 7-4, 6-5 (MAC East Co Champs), 4-7, 4-8, 7-5 Still my favorite coach.
  24. I get that there's some strategy to not sharing injury information, but I hate that such information is guarded like national security secrets.
