Early Football Previews and Predictions: Game Three at UAB
catdaddyp replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Keep in mind, all of this was done in the preseason. I’m also not sure how much we actually learned in a loss to a G5 team compared to what UAB did against an FCS. If we’re looking at Week 1 in a vacuum and treating Alabama State and Wyoming as equals, then give UAB the edge in all the offensive spots and Akron the edge in the defensive ones. Special teams would go Akron’s way too. Teams rarely look the same in Week 2, but unfortunately for us, we’ll probably still be staring at an ugly score against a team with superior resources and talent. Week 3 against UAB will be a better barometer for this team. -

Meh. It’s one game with a lot of new players, some old players playing worse than what we’ve seen before, and no real idea of how good Wyoming will be. Have you seen UAB yet? The let Alabama State score 42 in a close game. - Yesterday

My prediction is Nebraska 48 Akron 3

Respectfully your position advantages don't seem realistic given what we have seen. You may call it a must win. But that seems meaningless until they actually win a so called must win. We have had plenty of those. -
Nebraska will name its score. Gonna be at least half a hundred.
-
I thought Brophy played for Buchtel. Maybe he was from Kenmore.
-
KentZip started following Nebraska 34.5 favorites ...

I gave 33.5 and took the Huskers. Can’t see Akron team from last week scoring a point. Hope I’m wrong

Story time: Dominick Raiola the QB's dad is a friend. 30+ yrs ago I sat at many U of Hawai'i baseball games with him and his two sons, both of whom went on to play center in the NFL. Dominick played football at the U. in Miami and when he learned I was from Akron he talked all about his former teammate Jay Brophy from Kenmore High. They were very close in college and maintained contact for a while after, when Jay played for the Dolphins. Well, I discovered Brophy in a Facebook discussion a few years ago with another friend who may or may not be here on ZN.org. I started a side talk with Jay, telling him I knew his former U of M teammate, and asking if he had any stories about Dominick Raiola. His only remark back was that because of the number of times he was hit in the head in his playing days, he could not remember ANY of his teammates and has difficulty even remembering anything about his football career without being prompted by his friends and family. This reality about what happens as a result of our National Passtime makes me very reticent to adopt any emotional closeness to the sport.

That's well refined. I do that after about 30 seconds of exertion! -

We should honestly rename the walk on try outs as "The search for the next Enrique Freeman" -
You are almost 💯 correct. They could play on those Saturdays, but they would forego their anti-trust exemption. I guess the question then becomes, would that matter? The NFL is the #1 TV show in the USA. Drunks and degenerate gamblers can't get enough.

To make more money. Why wouldn't they do it if they could ? What would change?

Returning Minutes: Sharron Young - what leap can he take as a Sophomore? Returning Redshirt: Rich Brisco - does he have the ability and athleticism to go with the 6'8" 240 lbs frame? Newcomer: Big Stank - how does his game transition to the US? -

1) Hopefully we remain healthy, but injuries are typically inevitable. The depth we have really protects against the problems last year's team faced when Harris went down early in the season. 2) If we thought last year's pace was crazy, wait until this year. We're more athletic, more lethal from 3, and bigger. Being 12 deep, we're going to have hockey line changes. -

Walk-on tryouts are 8 AM to 9 AM on the 18th. I need to start working on my shot. -
You and GP1 both have valid points here. I think the scales begin to tip when the "minor" league's revenue is on par with the major league, which it is becoming due to consolidation and concentration of the big name schools/programs. At the very least, NFL owners have taken notice.

LOL. Brain fart. I was thinking Tom Osborne.

College Football-------------->NFL The Big Ten's current TV deal is a seven-year, approximately $7 billion agreement with Fox, CBS, and NBC that began in the 2023 season. Ohio State makes $12 - $15 million a home game. So the OSU AD can definitely talk that talk.
-
I just saw a post about walk on tryouts. Kind of leads me to believe both are gone, Serb will get one scholarship, and we have one walk on spot to fill.
-
Why would an old Sooner coach come out of a Nebraska tunnel?
-
Why would you do that to your free minor league?
