  5. How in the world do they decide to start their games at 6:56 pm? https://shupirates.com/news/2025/10/16/mens-soccer-pirates-host-akron-in-massive-big-east-battle-under-the-lights I know that the Zips have only played 4 games so far in the 8 game Big East schedule. However, I view this as a game that the Zips can not afford to lose. If the Zips were to suffer a loss in this game, I do not see the Zips qualifying for the 4 team Big East tournament. Let's look at the current point totals for the 10 teams...still in contention to make the Big East tournament. I will also list the 4 remaining games for each of the 10 teams. Marquette is 0-4-0 and DePaul is 0-3-1. I do not see either of those teams making the Big East Tournament. Big East - Eastern Division Georgetown currently has 10 points. They look like a total slam dunk to be one of the 4 teams to qualify for the tournament. Georgetown is currently 3-0-1 and they probably have the softest remaining schedule. 4 remaining games - DePaul (currently has 1 point) ; Villanova (5 points going into Friday night games) ; Xavier (4 points) ; Providence (6 points) total points for 4 teams on remaining schedule - 16 points (avg. of 4.0) Seton Hall is currently 2nd in the Eastern Division with 8 points and a 2-0-2 record. Their ties are against Georgetown and Villanova 4 remaining game - Akron (currently has 6 points) ; St. John's 7 points ; Creighton 9 points ; UConn 6 points total points for 4 teams on remaining schedule - 28 points (avg. of 7.0) St. John's is currently 3rd in the Eastern division with 7 points. They currently have the 4th highest total in the 12 team league. They have already played Georgetown. 4 remaining games - UConn (currently has 6 points) ; Seton Hall 8 points ; Villanova 5 points ; Butler 6 points total points for remaining schedule - 25 points (avg. of 6.25) UConn is tied for 4th in the East division with 6 points. They have already played Georgetown. 4 remaining games - St. John's (currently has 7 points) ; Providence 6 pts ; Butler 6 points ; Seton Hall 8 points total points for remaining schedule - 27 points (avg. of 6.75) Providence is tied for 4th with 6 points. They get to face cellar dwellars DePaul and Marquette. Their last game is against Georgetown. 4 remaining games - Marquette (currently has 0 points) ; UConn 6 pts ; DePaul 1 pt ; Georgetown 10 pts total points for remaining schedule - 17 points (avg. of 4.25) Villanova is in 6th place in the east with 5 points. Their next 3 games are not easy. 4 remaining games - Creighton (currently has 9 points) ; Georgetown 10 pts ; St. John's 7 pts ; Marquette 0 pts total points for remaining schedule - 26 points (avg. of 6.5) Big East - Midwest Division Creighton is the current leader in the Midwest with 9 points. Creighton has already played Marquette and DePaul. 4 remaining games - Villanova (currently has 5 points) ; Butler 6 pts ; Seton Hall 8 pts ; Akron 6 pts total points for remaining schedule - 25 points (avg. of 6.25) Akron is tied for 2nd in the Midwest with 6 points. Akron is the only team of the 4 midwest teams that has not yet played cellar dweller Marquette. 4 remaining games - Seton Hall (currently has 8 points) ; Xavier 4 pts ; Marquette 0 pts ; Creighton 9 pts total points for remaining schedule - 21 points (avg. of 5.25) Butler is tied for 2nd in the Midwest with 6 points. If Butler and Akron were finish tied for the Midwest division, Akron would win the tiebreaker. 4 remaining games - Xavier (currently has 4 points) ; Creighton 9 pts ; UConn 6 pts ; St. John's 7 pts total points for remaining schedule - 26 points (avg. of 6.5) Xavier is a long shot to make the Big East tournament. They currently have 4 points. They still have to play Georgetown. 4 remaining games - Butler (currently has 6 points) ; Akron 6 pts ; Georgetown 10 pts ; DePaul 1 pt total points for remaining schedule - 23 points (avg. of 5.75 )

  7. With how the CFP is now, I'd really like to see a G5 playoffs. I mean, Akron isn't getting within screaming distance unless they go 68 teams like March Madness. But it'd be more fun than the Who Gives a Crap Bowl

  9. Damn. RIP Larry
  10. Agree, all of last year we talked about how the schedule had set us up to fail and that this year this schedule was set up for success - which it was. It’s the story of Joe’s tenure, so many winnable games that we just couldn’t close on. So far this year it’s Wyoming and UAB. Win those are we are sitting at 4-3 with several winnable MAC games in the next month and a very possible bowl bid (if eligible) coming. But here we are again, another year of “what if’s”. Let’s get a win over Testicle Tech this week and see if it builds any momentum.
  11. Semaj Beals offer list includes Alabama, Penn State, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Pitt, 'Cuse, West Virginia, and USC 🧐
  12. Congratulations to Jason Shokalook. Well-earned.
  13. Larry Williams passed away today at the age of 62. More details as I find them.
  14. I ain't gonna lie, it would be exciting to see the Zips compete for the MAC. I know it's not the college playoffs or the AP top 25, but just to be relevant would be exciting. I know someone is going to say it's never going to happen, or it's never going to happen with this coach, I get the frustration. I'm just saying just to be relevant in the MAC would be exciting for me. I'm not asking for much. This year, Wyoming sucked, UAB was winnable, Central sucked, Miami didn't suck but was winnable. Zips should have split those four games at the very least. Looking back at this schedule it is like the captain of the cheerleading squad saying hi to you everyday and you actually thinking you had a chance to go out with her, until you actually ask her and she busts out in laughter..... You just shake your head and wonder what the heck was I thinking?
  15. My distaste extends long beyond Akron. College football just isn't entertaining. So many lopsided games. The saving grace before was the regular season was like a 12 week playoff before so every game in the regular season mattered. With the expanded playoffs each regular season game matters less. Let's use OSU as an example. 10 years ago if OSU got upset by Rutgers that would mean OSU season would be on life support. Now it might just mean the difference between having a first round bye or hosting a 1st round campus game.
  16. Why would I give up? Clearly everything is going great around InfoCision.
  17. By the way, the tournament projection is now available on the RPI Update site. Akron is currently at #16 which is 2nd best in the Big East (Georgetown is #14). The cut line for at large is currently #40.
  18. This is solid advice. I pretty much gave up following Akron and college football 6-7 years ago and my Saturdays are now much more enjoyable.
  19. This shows that anything can happen in the MAC. Pre snap penalties must be eliminated. I will say the call last week on our DT was poor. By rule motion by the DT that causes the O to react is OK; however just pointing out that motion is not the type of reaction the rule intended. The other 5 calls were on us. Finley must hit at least 65%. Drops happen; just like catches on balls thrown well behind receivers. This game is winnable. I'm always hopeful. Zips win. exit322, why don't you just take the off ramp to relieve your suffering?
  20. Last week
  21. Huh? The average margin of victory in FBS is approximately 24 points and getting worse. The NFL is less than 10. College football is barely entertaining.
  22. Hopefully we can take advantage like how Arkansas State took advantage last year against us
  23. Hugging was votedOVC Coach of the Year following that 12-14 season in 1984. They were 8-19, 3/11 OVC the previous year under Bob Rupert. The Akron Buchtelite broke the story about additional benefits offered to players, including alleged under-the-table cash payments. Of course the Jerkin Beanal was unable to confirm the story.
  24. can't figure it out either. that's why i'm hoping starting with the buffalo game we start to see them. duncan got 8 snaps first two games then we never saw him again. came here as an energizer bunny what happened? brown got 15 or 16 snaps in one game he came from fcs but had more experience than any end on the entire roster never saw other than that one game. cheatom played that first game then one snap last game and nothing else? the ends have a combined 5 sacks FROM 2 guys and that's 2 in the central game and 2 in the duquesne game.:: the twins have 1 solo tackle each and the one has 2 assisted tackles and the other has 5 ..: that sucks as a defensive end unit. coming into the season we needed pressure on the qbs. we haven't gotten. durham has played more snaps than ANY edge in all of FBS and only two in FCS have played more. he has played EVERY snap except 65 in seven games. maybe if he didn't play so many snaps he could produce more? i would have liked to have seen what gavin could have done in the middle as well. bosswell is good as a freshman but gavin is similar in size and is the fastest linebacker on the team what was there to lose by trying some of those guys earlier?
  25. Yes, as an assistant to Chuck Machock. He did not particularly like living and coaching in Florida (football state). Akron interviewed 4-5 candidates in addition to Huggins. His backup options included Edinboro and Gannon. D. Guzzetta was UA president at the time and also sat on the Board of Trustees at Walsh so he knew Bob which helped. BH also previously assisted Eldon Miller at Tosu who put in a good word for him. The Zips had 7 consecutive losing seasons prior to BH and the entire 83-84 team was back except for Joe Jakubick (national scoring leader, 30.1 ppg). The Zips were under NCAA investigation (for giving some clothing and gear to some guys), given probation, and limited to 3 scholarships for 84-85. Zips went 12-14 in 84-85. Zips won the OVC in 85-86 and played Michigan in the tourney. They played a slow-down game and lost 70-64. Huggins didn't make the NCAA again at UA due to going independent due to the football move-up to Div. I-A. BH claims AD Dave Adams didn't know the OVC bylaws required membership in all sports (which would not be feasible for Akron if leaving I-AA football). He says he also doesn't know who pulled the string on the move to I-A (and he liked Bill Muse) but was very upset by the decision, both because of the removal of Dennison as coach and Zips sports from conference affiliation. In 86-87, the last year in the OVC, the Zips went 21-9 and made the NIT where they lost to Illinois State 79-72. In 87-88 they went 21-7 and did not get any post-season invite. In 88-89 they won 21 games for the third straight year and went to the NIT again, losing at Tosu 81-70. BH had natl champ. aspirations which wasn't going to happen at Akron so he started shopping. He talked to Drake, Toledo and East Carolina but wanted a bigger step up. Then both Cinci and Dayton opened up. Faust told Bob he would block him from getting the Dayton job (GF's alma mater in his home town). He applied at Cincinnati, viewing it as a great city without "all the apathy Northeast Ohio had. Northeast Ohio has to be the capital of apathy."
  26. Between that and the fact blowouts are much rarer than in college.
