I wouldn't mess up with what works. IMO I like the fact Halligan starts. It allows us to better stagger our minutes so that we have a fresh guard coming off the bench at the first media timeout. I agree Halligan shorter play time is probably both a combination of injury and shortening the bench because of elimination games.
-
For you degens out there watching basketball all day. Cheering for both Charlotte and Ole Miss is the play. Both of those teams would almost certainly be seeded behind Akron if they win their conference auto bid. That might be enough to slide Akron up to an 11 seed from a 12.
-
Does Groce start Halligan tonight? I do not think he has scored in the last 5 games and last night he passed up an open three and turned the ball over. He only played a total of 4 minutes. Also, Groce seems to shorten the bench in these championship games. Do you start Young instead since he has been playing stellar defense or do you keep what has gotten you here and not mess with a winning rotation. My prediction and open optimism is that Lyles comes out of his shooting slumg and lead the Zips to a double digit victory. Go Zips!!!
-
They offered him the job. He chose Miami.
-
Rose Villa posted yesterday about having the game on. Might want to call first.
-
To my eye, the current team does not stack up to the Castaneda/Freeman squads. I still love the current Zips. Just sayin’.
- Today
-
Miami, under former UA assistant Glenn Box in his third year at the helm, are the 2026 MAC champs. Zips were 7-24 this season. Big whiff so far by the former UA AD. Plus MJ led YSU to Horizon title game this year.
-
Thought about that too. Mcnees right?
-
This isn't the time to go soft on us
-
I watched the first game last night at the new Basement in the Merriman Valley because my power was out. I had to ask them to tune in the game, but they had enough tvs. My power came back on about 7, so I went back home for the Zips game. With so many tvs in these places, it may be hard to get the play by play.
-
I presume tickets through UA will come through mid-afternoon today? Toledo jumped us in the first half last time. Can’t afford a slow start tonight. We have the depth advantage but can’t waste energy climbing uphill. Start fast and wear them out.
-
Shammah Scott never lost to Kent State. He was a perfect 8-0 against them. The majority of our roster has never lost to them. Incredible run.
-
85-73 Zips. Against weaker perimeter defense, our less contested outside shots will fall, and we'll pull away in the second half to then cruise down the stretch.
-
Let's goooooooo
-
Predictions for tonight? We destroyed them on the glass in our meeting at the JAR. 37-25 overall and 16-7 on the offensive glass. Could be key tonight.
-
Kent made some really good adjustments after the first two games. Just didn’t have the skills on offense to fully take advantage. He got them to their ceiling just wasn’t high enough
-
Yes, I feel realization is setting in for him that he can't elevate Kent's program to where Akron is currently. His only hope is Akron regressing. I actually thought he coached Kent well and had a solid game plan to disrupt Akron offensively yesterday. Jack's and Joe's just beat X's and O's.
-
Sendy was very complimentary of us in his post game presser. Says he thinks we have the best MAC team since Oats’ Buffalo squads..including better than Miami this year.
-
Lyles' ability (normally) to stretch the floor opens up the lane for Tavari, Shammah, and Sharron. I can't see Groce telling a normally-good shooter to stop shooting 3s because of two bad games.
-
Your like reminded me about this. I just put it on and it's true to size. It's very comfortable and breathable. I could definitely see myself wearing this during chilly summer mornings or evenings.
-
Thanks for the response. I'll keep that in mind. The last time I went to watch an Akron game at Barley was the tournament game against VCU. I just wasn't impressed with their setup and given the complaints I read earlier in the year when they were hosting viewing parties it doesn't sound like much has improved.
-
Scott’s block at the end reminded me of the end of the 2011 MAC Championship game against Kent where we blocked it 2 or 3 times. #DancingOnPorrini
-
The Miami women's team doesn't seem to have a problem playing at 11am. Up 12-0 on Toledo.
