Which best describes your feelings on the MAC scheduling model?
exit322 replied to mrelegazna's topic in Akron Zips Football
The Sun Belt has bigger names than the MAC; they probably don't have to play on Tuesdays to get a decent enough deal. While attendance itself isn't the perfect metric (and MAC attendance is hurt by the midweek stuff), the MAC had five teams (Buffalo, CMU, Ohio, Toledo, WMU) that averaged at least 15,000 fans (the latter three averaged 20,000) announced. The Sun Belt had six over 20,000 (App State, GA Southern, JMU, Marshall, Southern Miss, Troy) and one (App State) over 30,000. Your second point, however, is 100% spot on. The midweek games reduce that access for the fans locally, and that's really the last thing any of the MAC teams need. -
Do they help her find a school? Going for 3 in three years. 🙄

Maybe, maybe not. I really don't know. I'd like to ask the Sun Belt about this. What I am confident of is the athletic department should benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general community around Akron. The current TV model does not accomplish this. Taxpayers support UofA and their access to the athletic department isn't as great as it should be, and that goes for all schools. -

I think Groce is pretty clearly a finalist and wants the job. Otherwise, he does what Holtmann and Shrewsberry did today and either directly or indirectly squashes it. If he does leave, I'd expect Ford to follow him there. It would be challenging timing for Akron, as they'd be limited to "second wave" options to be their next head coach. Pretty huge 24-48 hours coming for the near-term future of Akron basketball. -

There's a reason you don't leave Notre Dame or even DePaul for Butler. It's not a step up. - Today

Does anyone want to predict what Josh Henderson will be next season. I have never seen him play. We really need either him or Cody Head to be a 10 points 20 minutes a game guy next season. -

Haven’t heard anything from anyone… retain Eric and Sharron, hope the redshirts and freshman can contribute and find a starting center and starting 2 guard. And I think we can 4peat! the question is do we go after a power 5 bench player or a D2 all American. -
If you're going to play on Thanksgiving weekend when no one's on campus, I agree that Black Friday is the better choice.

7.9 ppg on a team that was starved for scorers.

How long before we start hearing the stories about all of these uncertified NIL agents ripping off athletes and their families (or in some cases it is their family members serving as agents to take a cut) etc. I have to imagine it’s going to get ugly once cases of this start coming to light.

The agents do a good job convincing these young people that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I would agree his run at Illinois is the bigger deterrent. I was more commenting because I was pointing out that tournament wins is not a requirement to get a P4 job. Steele's performance at Xavier is probably also why he wasn't taken as a more serious candidate. Had he went from assistant at Xavier to taking the Miami job and after 3 or 4 seasons put together the season he did I think given he is a Butler alum he would be the no brainer candidate.

Not to mention by playing the games on Friday you don't have to compete with rivalry Saturday. OSU-Michigan attracts a ton of attention. Usually a friend of mine hosts a watch party for the game. Even those who don't care much about OSU or even football still attend because who doesn't enjoy having an excuse to hang out with friends, drink beer, and eat pizza/wings. Trying to compete head-to-head would the game would be disastrous for any Ohio or Michigan MAC school from an attendance standpoint.
