If you go to their board they blame all kinds of things for their lack of success. Bad luck, injuries, and saying the tournament needs moved because Kent and Akron get an unfair advantage. Meanwhile, they're significantly closer to Cleveland than schools like Buffalo, Miami, or WMU who have all won the tournament in Cleveland. They just lack any sort of accountability. It's funny enough that they don't feel the same way about the MAC football championship being in Detroit giving them an unfair advantage. They will be in for a rude awakening if the MAC relocates, as it should, that game to Haslamland once the current contract ends.

I hate Toledo!! Tod might be one of those coaches (Dabos, Clemson football coach) that excelled before the NIL era because their program could fill the roster with talent at the price of a new car. Now new cars are peanuts and they are struggling to adapt.
-
They're just killing time until spring football.
-
Definitely an attempt at signaling and auditioning for the BEC 😉
-
It was the number 1 play on sportscenter this morning...
-
It will be a charter.
- Today

Yes, also Troy doesn't look like an easy place to get to. You have to fly into Montgomery, which would almost certainly require a layover unless you charter a flight, and then jump on a bus and drive an hour to Troy. I feel that more than offsets the extra day of rest.

I know some people are going to push back on this and say it doesn't matter and that's fine, but I want to see us mix up the starting lineup. Halligan just doesn't do enough to warrant starting, and isn't helping our slow starts the past two games (not that it is all on him). Lyles Mahaffey Mahaffey Young Johnson Scott/Hardman first off the bench, with Barre gradually getting increased minutes as he gets more practice time in returning from his injury. Use some mix of Halligan/MMK for 5-10 minutes to give you some hustle when you need a boost.

So did EMU, to be fair. But I agree.
-
I was at that game so I didn't get to see a close up or replay. I have noticed quite a few times when watching games this season that what appeared to me to be a charge got called a block. I'm not just referring to Akron games either.
-
There was also a very clear forearm shove by emu in the second half, right near the ref and no call
-
Lyles took 2 charges against portage community college. Ref called them defensive fouls.
-
Dang, that was a shot at Pinky 👀👀 Unless Kent players were directly taunting UT players, I'm with kreed. Don't give a team the opportunity to celebrate if you don't want it done. I love seeing UT crash & burn 🤣
-
2 things can be true. 1) Kent is and will likely always be classless 2) Tod sucks
-
I by no means am a fan of Kent, but if you don't want opposing teams celebrating don't choke away a late 17 point lead.
-
I like that Troy has one less day for rest.
-
I don't have any analytics to back it up, but I watch a fair amount of college basketball outside of just Akron games. It seems in those charge/block scenarios blocking is always called now. It seemed before at least once or twice a game a charge would be called. I'm not sure if its being officiated any differently or if defenders have lost the art form.

Ugly, ugly, out of body experience. Even with the terrible effort, execution and decision making you could still see them dig deep to muster one last run starting about 7-9 minutes out. It’s all they had in them. Kent State almost got their win a game late. And this was a true road game. We were getting hacked and bumped plenty which also makes running your offense more difficult. They survived thank goodness and hopefully they find their legs, minds and shot before Troy on Saturday.

The MAC/Sun Belt Challenge resumes this Saturday with the Zips heading to Troy for a 6:00 matchup on ESPN2. Troy is 15-8 going into Wednesday’s game against Georgia State. They are in first place in conference the Sun Belt at 8-3. They are first in scoring offense at 83.7 ppg and ninth in defense 75.7 ppg. 6’8” junior forward Thomas Dowd leads the Sun Belt in rebounding at 10.4 rpg and is second on the team in scoring at 14.9 ppg. 6’7” junior forward Victor Valdes leads Trojans scoring at 16 ppg.
-
until the last two games, Akron won the rebounding battle in just about every game. Not making excuses for the last two but Kent missed 22 3-point shots. Lotta long rebounds. Last night was a zombie performance but they still managed to win. Groce will get into these guys and clean it up.
-
This game magnifies fundamental weaknesses in the Zips this season. I do not believe they can get any W's after the MAC tourney. Here's why: 1) Turnovers 2) Turnovers 3) Rebounding 4) Refusal to play physical (Take a God damn charge once in a while rather than say ole) 5) Inconsistent focus (No team is good enough to turn it on when needed and win against good competition. Hell EMU was bad and they took us to the buzzer)
-
I guess they've just grown complacent with having a winning record. Although they're even cutting it close on doing that this year.
-
I hope you did not bet on this one.

You would think a fan base that hasn't seen legitimate March basketball in 46 years would be chomping at the bit for somebody to take them Dancing.
