Not sure defense is the strength with the current roster; not sure it isn't, either. Point being, the roster is a bit of a blank slate so they can target whatever style they want.
-
You’re right about Young and Eric Mahaffey. Eric needs to limit the stupid fouls, but he’s so long and athletic. And Young gets right in their grill. I just don’t see us making a push up the defensive ranks until we can land another effective 7 foot shot blocker. And I’m not confident with what Barre would bring next year.

I watched a little bit of the Austin FC II match last night to check out Stefan. After coming on as as sub in the first match of the season, he's now started the last three matches and has one assist so far. I hope to see him get some first team minutes by the end of the season!
-
My comment was also more about building to the strength of the current roster.

We played UCLA in the 2021-2022 season. All of the changes in college basketball were just getting started. There was still some parity throughout the ranks. Not to say a defensive-minded approach isn’t the answer.

Following a madness-promising first day of upsets, the NCAA Tournament has turned into a high-major affair. The Sweet 16 invite is for power-conference programs only. Advocates for fewer automatic qualifiers and bracket expansion will have a field day with this one. “I think parity is great for the game, but things change,” said Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd, who spent 21 seasons as an assistant at Gonzaga. The Big Ten is the big conference on the block, pushing through a league-record six teams into the Sweet 16 — three in the same region. The SEC has four Sweet 16 teams, the Big 12 three, the Big East two, the ACC one. Mid-majors: zero for the second straight season.

I'll guess it's MAC Media Day?
- Today

We'll see how things play out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Zips try to win with defense next year. Young and Eric have the capability of being All-MAC defenders. Cody, not sure how big of a role he'll have but certainly figures to be in the rotation, has decent size for a guard. As someone else pointed out the closest we've come to a win in the tournament was against UCLA and that was a defensive focused team.

Schedule release tomorrow at 11 AM?!
-
Whatever one wants to call it there is distinct gaps in the level of play between the conferences. Duke can make it to the title game and even win this year. That doesn't change the fact if you look from top to bottom the ACC as a whole was much weaker than the B1G and SEC this year.
-
Yeah, I think the B12 is far enough ahead of the ACC you could call it a P3. But even in football the ACC did get a team to the NCG. So, maybe it's a p4
-
It's not really a P4. It's a Big 2 with SEC and BIG. Big 12 has still managed to remain competitive. It doesn't seem like the ACC schools have the money to compete in both football and basketball. Probably on even footing with Big East.
-
Admittedly, the tough part of the branding here is determining if it's really a P4, or if it's more of a P2.5, because the ACC is so far behind the SEC/B1G/even B12.
-
Providence just hired Hodgson from USF, who turned down Cuse due to a lack of funding. Providence is rumored to be in the $10M range next year for their roster. P4 doesn't mean the resources are better; Iowa is exhibit A. McCollum is just that good of a coach. Florida has ample resources but Golden sucks both as a coach and as a human being. It's possible to compete outside the P4, but it requires the right coach/staff.
-
But without football, there's a lot less excess revenue to spread around to buy players for other sports. It is no coincidence that the Sweet 16 contains only one non-P4 school, and St. Johns is a traditional basketball powerhouse with an exceptional coach. Even traditional P4 powerhouse basketball schools such as UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas have had a steep dropoff in recent years while Alabama, Michigan, and Iowa, where football is relatively strong, have risen in basketball.
-
Definitely a premier mid-major job, I agree. UConn should be part of that grouping, too.
-
Creighton should be one of the premier jobs in the country. Outside of UCONN, the entire Big East should be. Without football, the revenue share can all go towards basketball; don't need to rely on donors as much.
-
It's tough being a non-P4 coach, especially when you used to be in a major basketball league.
-
Then we didn't adjust like they did. This is loser talk
-
Inflate-gate. LOL.
