To be fair, Cincinnati is also a P4. But Cincinnati is still #2 in a one-school state, and your greater point is 100% correct.

Good post. I think a lot of it is going to revolve around not just one person, but the wealth in a state, the number of P5 schools in a state and how the money is divided up. For example, OSU is the only P5 school in a state with three major population centers. Mississippi State and Mississippi are two schools in a poor state with little population. There aren't many Uber wealthy people in Mississippi. Oregon is a small state, but tech has created a lot of very wealthy people who have more than car dealership money.

Hopefully Akron gets a mention or two during the series 👍🦘

He was just taking a little nap since the Schmuckeyes were on a bye week. Now he has another vital job to do in rooting them on to covering the 21 point spread against the dreaded Nits. Yes, this is a must win for us. Although now that UMass is in the league, we need for them to get MAC-strong. I'll go with the Vegas line as my prediction whenever it comes out. I think technically we are on our bye week now (week 10) and the UMass game counts as week 11.

This NIL era is still new and programs are still jockeying for position. I think some programs are a given such as; Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, Michigan (especially since Larry Ellison's wife who is a former alumni has took an interest), and Texas A&M to be at or near the top in spending. Oregon is certainly up there in spending, but much of that comes from Phil Knight. Who knows if that money keeps flowing in once he passes. I know Oklahoma State appears to have suffered from their billionaire philanthropist passing away. Indiana was a minnow in the college football world, but ever since NIL several wealthy alumni, including Mark Cuban, have become more involved. I'm sure more billionaires boosters will emerge and some might just get bored and quit giving.

I feel part of the issue with highlight reels is that you only ever see the good, not the flaws. The league he played in I frankly never heard of. I'm sure it's a higher level of competition than the MAC, but from my own ignorance I'm not sure how it compares to college basketball as a whole. He was an 8th or 9th man on his team. He's coming to Akron, which already has a lot of guard depth. He also joined the team late so he has just maybe 2 months now to learn the system. Compared to ~5 months to years for the other guys he'll be fighting for minutes. He can certainly earn playing time, but I see his minutes ramping up as the season progresses.

No clue, but I've wondered the same.

Arkansas brings in more revenue than LSU by a little. Arkansas has Walmart money. In addition to Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Texas AM and Oklahoma have more revenue than LSU. The point is, in the playoff era, LSU is close, but will be almost always in the second level. The question of Brian Kelly is interesting. He only had three losing seasons in over 30 years as a head coach, which is pretty awesome. He never won a national championship, which in 2025 means you suck as a head coach beyond belief. Guys like him, who tend to be unlikeable people, tend to have a lot of poop thrown a them when things go wrong. I'm betting that once the loud a-holes who love when someone they don't like move on to hating someone else, history will be kind to Kelly.

Yes, I mixed up my Mahaffeys!

Speaking of naming rights -- is there something in the law from its original (state?) financing that prevents the U from selling rights to the name of the basketball arena? I have zero love lost for the person it's named for, but if the school can bring in additional cash with a contract for the arena, why aren't they doing it?

If THAT's all that happens with Oggi, then either this team is so packed with talent it's headed to the Top 25 or, I fear the coaches are giving too much deference to the returning (and veteran transfer) players. Have you SEEN the film?? Ogg (as in "Oh, GEE!" I'm still working on how to refer to him if we meet outside a locker room) competed and scored and rebounded strongly against all-European youth competition. IF he stays more than a year or two, he could be the guy who does what you predicted one of the Mahaffey brothers would do. I really hope he gets time to show his ability vs US college kids on the floor at Beeghley Center coming up shortly. And, I was wondering if coach Weigand has taken him to eat at Belgrade Gardens or any of the other Serbian chicken palaces in the municipality of Barberton... 🐔 🤔

Why not both! Lol

Then don't.

That seems to be the company line, depending on whose company you keep.
-
Too bad it's impossible here.
-
Can’t knock that idea!
-
Our take will probably match the NIL funds from all the directional Michigan's combined!

I was wondering the same thing. - What were your expectations for Head that he is exceeding in practice? - I think our front court is going to surprise some teams. We're larger on average and more athletic. - This team, theoretically, should play faster than last year's squad. We're a few guys deeper at each spot and healthy (knock on wood). - Love this. The $20 ticket price has been validated with this information. Good for both programs.

Rankings and where a player are selected in a draft go a long way toward determining their value. But that wasn't really the point of my post. You said LSU couldn't keep up like they could 10 years ago from a spending standpoint, and that's just not true. Brian Kelly is just an overrated coach who couldn't take advantage of the resources he had.

I think you mean Eric Mahaffey instead of Evan in your first point.

The gate from the game are to be split between the schools collectives.
