  1. Today
  2. Yes, I mixed up my Mahaffeys!
  3. Speaking of naming rights -- is there something in the law from its original (state?) financing that prevents the U from selling rights to the name of the basketball arena? I have zero love lost for the person it's named for, but if the school can bring in additional cash with a contract for the arena, why aren't they doing it?
  4. If THAT's all that happens with Oggi, then either this team is so packed with talent it's headed to the Top 25 or, I fear the coaches are giving too much deference to the returning (and veteran transfer) players. Have you SEEN the film?? Ogg (as in "Oh, GEE!" I'm still working on how to refer to him if we meet outside a locker room) competed and scored and rebounded strongly against all-European youth competition. IF he stays more than a year or two, he could be the guy who does what you predicted one of the Mahaffey brothers would do. I really hope he gets time to show his ability vs US college kids on the floor at Beeghley Center coming up shortly. And, I was wondering if coach Weigand has taken him to eat at Belgrade Gardens or any of the other Serbian chicken palaces in the municipality of Barberton... 🐔 🤔
  5. Why not both! Lol
  6. That seems to be the company line, depending on whose company you keep.
  7. Too bad it's impossible here.
  8. Can’t knock that idea!
  9. Our take will probably match the NIL funds from all the directional Michigan's combined!
  10. I was wondering the same thing. - What were your expectations for Head that he is exceeding in practice? - I think our front court is going to surprise some teams. We're larger on average and more athletic. - This team, theoretically, should play faster than last year's squad. We're a few guys deeper at each spot and healthy (knock on wood). - Love this. The $20 ticket price has been validated with this information. Good for both programs.
  11. Rankings and where a player are selected in a draft go a long way toward determining their value. But that wasn't really the point of my post. You said LSU couldn't keep up like they could 10 years ago from a spending standpoint, and that's just not true. Brian Kelly is just an overrated coach who couldn't take advantage of the resources he had.
  12. I think you mean Eric Mahaffey instead of Evan in your first point.
  13. The gate from the game are to be split between the schools collectives.
  14. Notes from the Tip-off Reception: * Evan Mahaffey is the real deal. He could be one of Akron's best ever by the time he is done here. * Cody Head is better than expected. * The Serbian will get some minutes. * The team is fully healthy as of a week ago. * Barre is a good fit as he can get up and down the floor. * Nate had 9 serious high money NIL offers. * The entire team looks like they've spent a lot of time with the strength and conditioning coach. * They beat Wright State in an exhibition. * Every player that has completed their eligibility at UA in the last 9 year left with a degree. * Every scholarship player who has completed his eligibility at UA in the last nine years has played professionally. * 26 practices so far. * They are going to play fast again this year. * The emphasis in practice all pre-season has been on defense. * The JMU Game will include the ring presentation and raising the banner. * There will be two fan experiences- trips to Vegas and New Orleans. * This group is really tight on and off the court. * The proceeds of the YSU scrimmage are being split between the schools' collectives.
  15. This doesn't surprise me. I have long believed, and still do, that fans in Summit County/NE Ohio know good football and will show up if you play it. On the other hand if you play terrible ball they will not show, even if they are graduates. Put a better product out there with a chance of winning and they will return.
  16. Yesterday
  17. Nah things are still great. They even have three whole wins!
  18. Oof so we're dead last then? Sigh... I guess things can only go up🤞
  19. Sam Houston is in a temporary stadium that is like 50 miles away from campus atm so that is why they are so low
  20. Thought this was interesting.
  21. Akron moved up to #20 in this week's United College Soccer Coach's poll. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/united-soccer-coaches RPI Rank https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpi 14 Akron 107 Marquette 45 Creighton
  22. Naming rights generally work that they would cut us an annual check. My guess is we still financed the bulk of that $60 million (likely $55+ million) and we receive a check from Summa and Infocision for $500k-$1M (depending on the length of the deal) annually, which we then use towards helping to pay that $4.5 million payment. Also, I don't know if the $4.5 million is accurate anymore. Those were the numbers that I read 10-15 years ago and reflected the original terms of the loan. If it got refinanced the amount we're paying annually would have changed. Edit: that's generally how interest works. If you borrow $60M for 25 years at 6% interest, the total of 300 payments would add up to about $116 million. You will always repay far more than you borrow.
  23. Just curious how much Infocision financing was in the first place. Stadium was @61million less 15million from Summa and Infosicion.Approximate debt $46 million. its now 16 years old,and assuming we are paying $4.5 million weve already paid @ $72million. 25 years would be $112,000,000. That seems excessive. And how long do Infocision and Summa own the naming rights??
  24. And yet another perfect inning in relief for Bassitt in an epic World Series game. Bet the Blue Jays wish they had stuck with him a little longer in a game they desperately needed extended pitching moments. He still has a 0.00 ERA in this postseason.
  25. Not if they don't know the team is playing there.
