Any chance you can find about 20,000 more students to do the same thing, before 7pm tonight?6 points

Hi. New student here. I haven't been to a football game before. I'm planning on going to the game after my evening class tomorrow. Can anyone tell me where a good place to park is. I'd like to be able to park over near the stadium so I can just hop on Rt 8 after the game. Also does anyone know if there is a specific gate for students. Thanks.5 points

General warning: Keith Dambrot coached at Akron for more than a decade, and is a big part of what Akron basketball is today. He will be talked about for years to come on ZipsNation. The majority of that discussion will happen in this thread. If, for whatever reason, you are not a fan of that, please do not harass members that want to be a part of it, simply do not click on the thread.3 points

Tatarunas has a confirmed offer from Robert Morris in Pittsburg, and a PWO from Ohio St and Cinn. He was invited to attend an Akron game, but couldn't make it. They play St Ignatious this Friday night for the Region 1, D1 title. Akron would have a decent chance of signing him if they offered. He's a very smart, big kid, big armed QB playing in the spread, more like a Luke Falk at Wash St system. Has led his team to some exciting last minute comebacks this month. Very cool under pressure.3 points

I love KD. I worked with him at Prudential Securities while I was an intern in college. When I started I didn't know who he was, but he was friendly to me. When he finally told me his story one day he got teary eyed. I love what he did for the program. Having said that, I was getting kinda bored with the program's stagnation. The last handful of years was like watching Groundhog Day. KD took us as far as he could. He was as steady as they come. I'm expecting more highs and more lows with Groce. And I'm looking forward to that, even if we do have to suffer through a year of growing pains. I was always fairly certain with KD's Zips we'd be a premier MAC team and compete in Cleveland every year... but never do anything special on a national level (NCAA). And let's not forget, to give Dambrot credit where credit is due: Sayles and Parrish are both Dambrot recruits. They both look like they're going to be great players. Duquesne can have Hughes & Dunn-Martin. I'm more grateful for the open scholarships their departure provided. It allowed us to sign LePear Toles who's game, honestly, reminds me a lot of Parrish.3 points

Well, I'd tell you to keep an eye out for me on the broadcast, but as crowded as the stands will be you'll probably not be able to find me....2 points

You have to whisper "I want the zippy special" to the cashier behind section 115 and you will get the $1 beer. It's an underground menu kinda thing.2 points

You guys are totally wrong on the situation regarding Hughes and Dunn-Martin. They were the ones who wanted to leave and go with KD to Duquesne. There was no recruiting by him for them to leave Akron. The returning players were all free to make their own choices regarding their future. He did those guys a favor by letting them go with him. Both of them were guys that weren't highly recruited out of highschool. They both felt a sense of loyalty to KD and that it was in their best interest to go with him.2 points

I think that everyone thinks going into the year that having so little experience and so many new faces is a negative. But it also a positive. Every player on this team know that there is no set lineup, no guys that have guarenteed playing time, no star that is going to get the ball on every play. If you play hard defense, play well, and show the coach that you belong on the court, there are minutes for you on the floor. In the past KD had his players that were almost guaranteed minutes. It worked for KD and it worked for the team. But I enjoyed watching different players with more athleticism and having no idea who will come on next and how long they will remain on the court. If familiarity builds complacentcy, this team should be the least complacent team in the MAC. Go Zips!2 points

Each team has to win 2 games to get there.....Akron needs to concentrate on a team from Washington this weekend one game at a time......2 points

#1 team in goals per game. #2 in total goals with only 16 total games played on the season, which is the least amount in the top 50 on the list. ... and my fiancee is taking online classes at FIU...1 point

You're right that's what the outcome would almost certainly be. I just won't be happy with it. Hopefully we win the next 2 games and its a non-issue.1 point

My prediction: Kato Nelson will start at QB. Off of a full week of practice. Go Zips.1 point

I think you're right, because that would mean we just lost at home to Kent, and lost 3 in a row to end the season. It would be impossible for Terry to frame that as "we're moving in the right direction". I think that would be enough for the new regime to justify moving in another direction. But I think he stays at 6-6 with a bowl win.1 point

I don't know if anyone brought it up or not (I haven't seen it) but they had Bowden on ESPN Cleveland 850 WKNR last night. His comments were as follows: -Tommy Woodson broke a team rule, and it will be a game-day decision...because in college you don't need to tell the other team till gameday -Bowden said the decision for Tuesday Night games was "above his pay grade" but he believes it's not good for the fans, good for national exposure and the players like it...but it's difficult to get the family and kids to watch a ballgame because it's a school night. -Bowden Said the words: Tuesday Night Games are terrible for your local fans, and hurts ticket sales. Those were really the things of note.1 point

I'm just so worried about going 5-7 for the umpteenth time under TB. I counted my chickens last year before they hatched and we lost 4 straight and went from 5-3 to 5-7. Only bright side is if it happens is that I won't have any issue with him being fired. 6-6 is sort of a toss up to me. Would prob be fine with whatever direction Larry W. wants to go. 7-5, and MAC champ birth and he keeps his job/few year extension, no more than 3.1 point

Nathan Rourke at QB makes their whole team a lot better. "Single most important position in all of sports."1 point

Yep. Nothing like taking the crowd out of the game after a nice run. Those pre-scripted events should ONLY happen during media timeouts.1 point

You and I see things totally differently regarding Big Dog. Did he develop into a solid post player, mainly his junior/senior year? Yes, his vision was incredible for a big man. However, did his lack of physical development ultimately hurt the team? I think yes. What did we accomplish with the MAC MVP? Very little in the grand scheme of things. You could only play one game with Big Dog on the floor - in and out ball. Otherwise, you weren't really able to run with the bulls (not in reference to Buffalo) and there wasn't much flexibility in game strategy/style. Zeke didn't really bulk up until senior year, either. Who knows if that's just how his body matured, or if the strength & conditioning program wasn't where it needed to be, but it's a fact. My point is I haven't seen a player in a long time physically transform in the off-season, especially prior to his freshman year, like Sayles has. This is basketball and not a bodybuilding contest, you're correct. However, I'm sure we could go back to previous years' game threads, and find several posts about not being able to physically match up with some of the bigger name teams. Physicality, strength & conditioning - they're all important aspects of the game of basketball. What's wrong with going through a mental process of trying to find things that might tell us, "This coach does this better than Dambrot?" Isn't the overall goal to keep the program going in the right direction, and actually take steps to improve? I don't hate Dambrot, but I disliked quite a few things over his last couple of years here - bashing fans, making excuses about the MAC and the JAR holding him back, boring game style, poor free throw shooting, losing to OSU when we clearly should have beaten them, etc. Not to mention I was fed up with the 20-win participation trophy seasons with nothing of substance as the end result; no NCAA tournament wins, no victories over ranked teams, etc.1 point

It's college football. You play the game for a reason. I can think of many examples this year where the box score just doesn't make sense. Go Zips!1 point

ABJ: Zips prepare for tough test against Ohio Tuesday night GT mentions OU QB Nathan Rourke. The guy's really good. Legit dual-threat QB. He's a lot of fun to watch, actually. But tonight it may just be painful. I say we simply have to sell out to stop the run and make Rourke beat us with his arm. If Rourke beats us with his arm, then we've just got to tip our helmets to him.1 point

Interesting. You're predicting a repeat of the 1986 Title Game. But a different result. I still remember being in my final stretch of school at Akron, and listening to that game on a transistor radio that night while I was at my part time job. Technology sure has come a long way.1 point

Ohio is very strong this year and we aren't. I see little chance of us winning this game regardless of who our QB is. My whole feeling is that they are a better team. They have better talent and are better coached. i want us to win, but i don't see it happening. To me those of us who feel we are going to win are basing their prediction on emotion and not fact. Over time and over the course of a battle emotion rarely beats talent. Please prove me wrong Zips, altho I won't lose any sleep over this coaching staff being fired.1 point

I think Tommy can handle whatever O.U throws at him if his receivers work hard to get open. I think they have improved and it could happen.1 point

I am not on the Parrish/Diggs bandwagon. Diggs was a whirling dervish, and Parrish is a cool cucumber. I'm as bullish on his potential as any Zip I've seen in some time. His defense needs work, but that will come. Offensively, he's beyond his years. Kostelac had a nice block. We'll need him as we face bigger front courts. Looking forward to his minutes increasing as the season progresses. Cotton needs some adjustment time to D-1 hoops. But I like his flair. I look for him to make a big jump from game 1 to game 2. Love his free throw stroke. Duvivier's dunk is a Top 5 JAR all-timer. I liked his comments after the game when French and Dunn were gushing over it. Loosely quoted - "That was my 'welcome to Akron' dunk. I'll have a couple more of those this year." He reminds me of a shorter Gary Trent. liked that Groce ran some inbound plays rather that just tossing the ball in to the tallest Zip. Looks like a loveable team that we can rally around and watch grow. My family enjoyed watching game 1 of the Groce era!1 point

Interesting tweet about Stanford's seeding... I would imagine that Wake Forest is not happy to see Stanford in their portion of the draw1 point

I remember a recent discussion on here where a few people did NOT want to see Ken Lolla in Akron again. Well, then I guess you get a worse scenario. We're looking at an Elite 8 game AT Louisville.1 point

I can only find stats ranking the top 250 in APG, but I'd be willing to bet that is #1 or close to it in the nation among centers. No centers were listed in the top 250 which bottomed out at 3.5apg.1 point
