Our old friend GT made the following stellar observation in his article about the game- Another key difference was getting big man Deng Riak involved. Riak added 14 points and led the team with seven rebounds. It proved to be a vast difference from the season opener when it looked as if the 6-foot-10, 225-pound transfer from East Carolina University was virtually forgotten. Apparently, GT wasn't at the Cedarville game. Against Cedarville, he played 25 minutes and had 7 field goal attempts and 6 free throw attempts. Against YSU, he played 26 minutes and had 8 field goal attempts and 3 free throw attempts. I guess one fewer minute put him in the class of virtually forgotten. I get more from reviewing the box score than I get from a GT article.4 points

This is not about how many picks Woodson threw in any game. As I said earlier, do not hang this on Ramart. One game is not a career. What Bowden has not been able to do in 7 seasons is, develop a consistently good offensive line(they do not have one now), develop any CONSISTENT running game (even though every week he keeps harping about having to run the ball),develop CONSISTENT discipline on the field(stupid penalties, blown assignments and the inability to develop a solid QB who can lead an offense(that's also another reason the OC has to come under some severe scrutiny). Maybe these guys will surprise and win out. But,as I also said earlier, the AD has to take responsibility for the call. The interim Prez is not likely to want to get involved. Hell' he's a Poly Sci guy.4 points

As Dennis Green said, "You are what your record says you are." The anger isn't over the last game. It's over several years of all the issues that previous posters have mentioned. I am not blaming a frosh QB getting his first start. He did the best he could. I blame a coaching staff that does not have a viable back up on the roster and did not have the frosh ready to play. We got 29 yards from our passing game. I blame a staff that cannot recruit offensive lineman to a school with the best facilities in the MAC. I blame a coach and OC that cannot establish a running game to help out a frosh QB in his first start. Even giving TB a huge pass (which I do) for taking over the worst program in DI football, you cannot say this is a one game issue. I loved the TB hire and I thought he was the best coach available. I do not love the terrible play calling and lack of solid game planning. Our team discipline is poor and we seldom, if ever, make in-game adjustments. I am not one who rushes to fire coaches. There is no guarantee that next one will be better. The guy most of ZN wanted before TB was hired declined to take an interview with us b/c the program was such a dumpster fire. TB actually contacted us about the job or we probably would not have landed him. I am ok if they fire him or if he comes back, but he has to have a new OC if he returns. The big question is this. Do you really feel that the of development (or lack thereof) of the offense over the past several years warrants Milwee keeping his job?3 points

Akron and Charlotte are the two teams in the RPI top 16 ....that did not get byes.... #17 Denver and #19 Syracuse are the two teams that got seeded instead New Hampshire, which had a 18 rpi....in effect..got seeded #32 as they would have to face #1 Wake in the round of 32 By facing #16 Syracuse(after the Rider matchup), Akron was probably the #17 seed2 points

Who do you blame it on? The refs? The coaches are the ones who recruit the players. The coaches are the ones responsible for developing the players. The coaches are the ones who make the game plans. The coaches are the ones who call the plays. This isn't the NFL where coaches have to coach the roster their GM provides them. Bowden and Milwee hand picked every player they have on the offensive side of the ball. Edit: Nobody here is asking for Akron to be Ohio State or Michigan. We expect to be able to compete against the top echelon teams of the MAC, which we haven't been able to do and we're in year 7. Any other FBS school would fire a coach that has only had 1 winning season in 7 years, yet somehow the fans asking for change are the irrational ones? I'm done with discussion. Enjoy your 9AM tee time with Bowden & Milwee because clearly you guys must be best buddies to not see some sort of change is needed.2 points

Zips are peaking at the right time. Squad improved 100% over past month. RPI is #14 and SOS is #10. 10 wins total with 4 Top50 wins. Plenty of pedigree in the past decade. I say Zips get one of the last 4 seeds and do not play until weekend.2 points

Nobody is blaming'every single loss on coaching'. What objective fans are doing is looking at patterns over the past 7 seasons. Just because some think all fans are idiots doesn't mean its true. Some fans can actually watch ballgames and understand what is and is not happening. This is not personal for most folks. But after 7 seasons this program should not be losing its first two conference games. It should not be getting waxed by the NIU's MU's,UB's and EMU's. The offense should not be as pathetic as it has been. That is seen most markedly in the poor O-line play and lack of a running game. This is finally about being consistently competitive with the best programs in the MAC. Clearly this program is not.1 point

here is a statement....that makes my very proud of akron zips soccer When postseason play begins, the Zips will join an elite group of just four Division I programs that have qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of the past 12 seasons. Only Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia can share that claim.1 point

Two STRONG wins to open the season, as Stony Brook has beaten both George Washington (A10) and South Carolina (SEC). Good for Jeff Boals! http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/_/id/26191 point

The holiday tournament exemption allows for 4 additional games. The tournament itself is only 3 games. The Zips claiming this as part of the Cayman Islands tournament pretty much enables the Zips to have an extra home game. It's honestly fairly common for teams to do this and if you look you'll probably see all 8 participating teams have a campus game.1 point

They returned a lot of talent from last years team that knocked off Arizona in the tourney. They were already on many peoples radar because of that. Without last years tourney win they probably still wouldn't be in the top 25 right now.1 point

I'm still shocked that it took them one win to get into the top 25. Syracuse, Marquette, and St Bonnies will be stiff tests. Zips get their first shot at UB 2/12/19 at the JAR, good news for the developing Zips.1 point

It did not help that: 1.) WE lost available games against ND and UCONN 2.) we let the regular season game against W.Virg get away and lost at N.ILL1 point

Well I called it correctly on the RPI thread: Akron was in danger of getting bumped out of the top 16 by Denver and Syracuse ... But the forthcoming wins over Cuse and Wake will just make the trip to Santa Barbara all that much sweeter!1 point

Agreed looks like we were #17. A lot better than I expected after the Nothern Illinois game.1 point

Sorry I missed it in the other thread. Haven’t had enough time with all the travel to see everything that’s been posted. Thanks to you, buflobo, and all who have been diligent in keeping us all up to date.1 point

To be fair, he didn't specify who was virtually forgetting Riak. He could have dozed off and virtually forgotten everyone by the time he started writing1 point

Now that I've returned from a long day of travel from Brunswick, OH to Morgantown, WV and back through Mineral City, OH for the 2nd time in 3 days and gotten a good night's rest, I have to say I couldn't be more pleased at how this great group of players has responded to the challenges of coming together as a team and other adversity over which they had no control this season. Thank you Coach Embick, Staff, and players... All Hail Akron Men's Soccer 2018 !!! GO ZIPS!!!1 point

There is just no way Milwee can be back here next season. Hell, he shouldn't even finish the season, but TB is loyal to a fault. It was so painful watching EMU blitz the opposite side of where the running back was lined up every play because this offense literally only has one running play. There was no chance before these plays were even ran. Making it a point to email my displeasure to L. Williams this week. My first want is Milwee gone. My second is TB gone if he refuses to make the change. Link to his contact info: https://gozips.com/staff.aspx?staff=11 point

Whatever...the same people keep harping on the same points that we already have 2 other threads devoted to beating the dead horse. It really gets old. This is G5 life, folks. and it isn't going to change. The NCAA is content to let talented kids sit on P5 benches and never see the light of day while their coaches promise them a chance they will never get.0 points
