A 3 pt. loss to the #16 team in the country while shooting 43% with 15 turnovers is impressive. I'm not a participation trophy person, but in the 2nd year of Groce with a 75% roster remodeling in the off-season, I'll take this loss. Well done. Played hard, belonged on the court, and quite frankly, a bucket here & there, and you win - maybe even somewhat handily.5 points

#1. This is a separate topic #2. I think even though it's a different gender they are still playing the sport of basketball. (Even though the ball they use is smaller which is why they seem to make more free throws than men) #3. This forum is designated for both men's and women's hoops. #4. A shout out to a new coach who is rebuilding from nothing...is a good thing4 points

I think Monday will give us our first real insight as to what we have in this team.3 points

Cant State beat Oakland at home today 75-65 IIRC. We beat them 85-65 at Kent. Melissa is a breath of fresh air in the progeam. I definitely see the ladies buying in for her -- well she's been on the Akron bench for ten years, so these players know her! Remember, the last time an Akron assistant replaced the head coach, it was Dambrot taking Hipsher's place. BTW. She has a strong 2019 recruiting class, including two players from Cincinatti who originally verballed to Bowling Green -- the school that signed the HOT coach from Ashland. I guess they thought Akron was the new hot place to be!3 points

While it is a loss, I am pleased with where this team is now. If you'd have told me at the start of last season that we'd play with the 19th team in the country 4 games into this season, I'd have taken it without hesitation.2 points

I won't be heartbroken if Bowden stays. But if Milwee is still OC I won't renew my season ticket. It's really the only thing I can do to make my displeasure known.2 points

the seeding committee really needs to take a hard look at their ACC bias... #4 seed Louisville and #5 seed North Carolina both out in round of 32 #6 Duke has not been impressive against Pacific...Duke seems to be always overrated in the tourney...I would like to see Maryland knock them off next week #7 Notre Dame was lucky to get by a very tired Michigan team and Notre Dame gets rewarded by next facing Virginia and the #16 seed from the ACC with a 7-6-2 record....got dusted today.... seeding committee should be closely examined when a top 16 seed ends the season with a .500 record2 points

"As a Wake fan, I'd much rather play (and lose, if it comes to that) to an Akron that actually attempts to play technically than to get run over by an overly physical direct team [Stanford Cardinal]. I don't think there are two programs that have "technical soccer" more ingrained in their DNA than Wake and Akron. Suffice to say, I'm excited as well. Should be a great game." -quzybuk (WF fan)1 point

https://wakeforestsports.com/news/2018/11/18/mens-soccer-no-1-wake-forest-tops-colgate-in-ncaa-second-round.aspx Coach Bobby Muuss: "Akron has been to two of the last three College Cups. It's going to be a great college soccer match," Muuss added. "For a college soccer fan and for a soccer purist, these are two teams that like to play. We played them my first season and it was one of the best games I've been involved in since I've been here."1 point

Ahhh, bummer, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning at 10:30. And I know Let'sGoZips94 wants to know this answer, I am rolling with the Zips. I am way too invested in the Zips to cheer against them. So Go Zips!! But the truth is with ISU being my alma mater I'm in a can't win, can't lose scenario. I do think the Zips take it though.1 point

I was able to watch the 2nd half and it was crystal clear for me. Turned off the comments and it made for great viewing on one of my extra monitors. As for the game, I'm not one for moral victories; a loss is a loss. But I'm pretty encouraged. Not gonna go up against many big guys like that. Their second chances in the second half were the difference in my opinion. We played pretty decent D, but couldn't come down with the rebound about half the time once we cut it to 7 or 8 down the stretch. Those hurt. Jackson is a gamer. Cheese has a little Duvivier in him. This will be a good team.1 point

The player I would have liked to see more out of was Ivey. He finished with 4 points, 3 boars, 3 assists, and 4 turnovers. He honestly might be our best rebounder, which we certainly could have used more of, and we can normally count on him to get 10 a night. It just didn't feel he had the impact today that he normally does.1 point

Agree. We loosened up & warmed up offensively in the 2nd half. (So did Clemson, however.) We needed Utomi to hit a couple more of his 3's.1 point

It would free up my Saturdays next fall as I'll certainly not be watching this dumpster fire.1 point

I am enjoying watching the Zips play in a blue and gold uniform for the first time in many years.1 point

What's kind of cool about watching on facebook is you can see the # of people viewing. 318 right now for the pregame talk.1 point

What an amazing cross and header on the 3rd goal. The first few years, Embick needed to prove that Akron wasn't just Caleb Porter, that Akron was a powerhouse that happened to be taken to the next level by Porter. Since then, he is consistently putting together strong seasons. All season I kept saying all we needed to do was get into the NCAA tournament. Well, here we are - onto the Sweet 16!1 point

Clemson is ranked and is a very talented team, but looking at their schedule I'm not that impressed. They've played 3 bottom feeders and they haven't pounded them like you'd expect a top 25 team to do. Sam Houston State is 2-3 and was only down 2 heading into half-time. Hopefully Akron finds a way to hang around and puts itself in a position to have an opportunity to win late.1 point

Boy it sure is tough to win a national championship at Akr......I mean Louisville. Lolla might want to go to a school where he can win a title......1 point

Very happy to read these comments from others. Our team has had its difficulties, but I know everyone has worked hard to continue our successful program. So happy to see that hard work paying off for our players, coaches, staff, and fans. So sweet!!!1 point

I wanted to take a minute to give a tremendous amount of credit to Coach Embick and his coaching staff. With 18 new players.....including 2 that had played 3 years for other programs, this had to be one of the most challenging years that Coach Embick has encountered. Without being able to see the match and just by following tweets and live stats, I would have to say that Abdi Mohammed was the MVP today. He scored the first goal and Marcel scored the 2nd goal on a rebound shot after the goalie could not contain Abdi's shot. This coaching staff was using Abdi in the midfield and up front....and they made the decision to move him to right DB. If you look back at the lineups for the first Syracuse game and the BG game right after it, Colin Biros was no where to be found. This coaching staff knew when young Mr. Biros was ready to contribute. Morgan Hackworth was not in the starting lineup for the BG game. Morgan has developed so much during his time at Akron. I never expected that Morgan would start and be a key player. Coach Embick and his staff know that Morgan is a winner. Tremendous credit to Colin and Morgan for their work ethic. I am not sure if there was an injury to Pol Hernandez but the insertion of Daniel Strachan into the starting lineup today really appeared to be a wise move. Daniel had several shots in the first half and he is a force on corner kicks (with his size) The zips soccer program is in good hands with Coach Embick and his staff.1 point

Great win, congrats to the Zips! Mid season, did anyone think the Sweet Sixteen was a realistic possibility? Getting here is a tribute to this team's inherent talent and resilience.1 point

To be fair, watching that offense can make anyone fall a sleep. In fact, I have trouble sleeping. Can someone mash up a video of our offensive plays against NIU and BGSU then share the link? Watching that will put me to sleep in about 5 minutes.1 point

The Beacon article this morning was all so cheery and the only reason....THE ONLY REASON this game happened here is that poor ol' Duquesne, hosting the DIII NCAA V-Ball Championships, couldn't find another venue anywhere....ANYWHERE....between Pittsburgh PA and a High School gymnasium in Akron Ohio to play Radford, from outside Roanoke VA. Hell, there are three colleges/university within walking distance of Duquesne. Oh! We can give back the the children...the children of Akron. I've kept my trap shut about this, because I like Keith, and I like the I Promise School concept and I like LeBron and I do think he has given a lot to the city, but this whole thing stinks to high hell. To go to Ohio, com the day after the Zips won a home game at the JAR and on the front page see a picture of a Duquesne Basketballer with some schoolkids just makes me want to throw up the Eggos I just consumed (picture this in yellow )1 point
