I also think the decision was predetermined & why we got the South Carolina game. It paid for everything. If it was for bowl eligibility we would have chose differently. LW knew he lost the team & we weren’t going bowling3 points

I won 4 straight FIFA18 EA Sports Premier League titles on my laptop....but the U didn't interview me to replace Jared Embick....I'm pissed! Yeah, HS head to a D1 head....I'm sure that's what you want...oh no, you just want to be critical of the Zips no matter what they do, I forgot.3 points

BG's new coach kept 4 of the former assistants on staff, so it doesn't seem unreasonable that we could retain some. #KeepCoachMounds2 points

Zero of these guys went straight from HS to division 1 head coach. Chip Kelly never even coached HS football. The average # of positions held between HS coach and D1 HC is roughly 5 per Wikipedia browsing, and about 5-10 years to get from HS coach to D1 HC. Your post doesn't even really deserve the effort of looking all of this up but it's completely ludicrous to expect any HS coach to be able to jump to D1 football and succeed as a head coach.2 points

I will give him a chance but lets not act like from the President on down Akron as a whole has been great in the leadership department on choosing successors. This selection makes no logical sense.2 points

Noah got himself on SportsCenter tonight by hitting a three-point buzzer beater in overtime when UNLV was down by one to BYU. Good for him ?2 points

A club sport is started, coached, operated, and played by students. It's not a sanctioned sport. That doesn't mean that they can't be a whole lot of fun. I went to a lot of club hockey games when the team was well organized and played a regular schedule. Attendance at those games rivaled a lot of the official sports at the university. It was a great time. But there are limits on what the university can do to support them.2 points

Seriously? This is the coach who's better than Terry Bowden? I don't get it. These guys seem underwhelmed as well2 points

It's encouraging to hear he was able to land some guys who had what would normally be viewed as "better offers elsewhere." Hopefully he can do the same here.1 point

Gerry demonstrated that in HS if you get the biggest and best kids to come to your school - often seeking your school out, you can dominate. When everyone else can get big, good athletes (NCAA), you need to be a better coach1 point

Absolutely was not revenue neutral. If the game wasn't scheduled, we still wouldn't have gotten paid by Nebraska, which the cancellation was in no way Akron's fault. The University has 1.3m that it would not otherwise have had if that game wasn't scheduled. Its not like we swapped one for the other. Circumstances beyond anyone's control screwed us and Larry W. turned lemons into lemonade. BTW - we did get half of the Nebraska payout, which I think is a solid alternative to battling it out in the courts and potentially getting it years down the road.1 point

I do like the fact the Arth has a strong background as a QB especially at the professional level. One would think that by being a backup to Manning that some knowledge about QB play specifically and offensive play generally would rub off. Maybe he can improve the caliber of play at that position here. Here is hoping.1 point

I don't mind the afternoon games. However, unless you are a season ticket holder you wouldn't know what day the game is, let alone what time. Where is the marketing of this team?1 point

Again not trying to argue but your last statement of blind loyalty would be the same to me in giving Bowden another year, we already know the results 5-71 point

Meh. This is kind of a bad post. I don't even need to look it up to guarantee 90+% of that list had some sort of collegiate experience prior to being named HC at the D-1 level.1 point

I would rather see Arth recruit AND GET some of the top talent from Hoban. That would do a number of positive things for the program.1 point

Everyone should give him a chance and support him 100% until its determined we shouldn't. We as a fan base need to be better. It'll only make us more attractive in the future. I'm not much a fan of media myself, but there seems to be plenty of approval from the move in that realm.1 point

He also spent 3 years in NFL with Colts as Peyton Manning’s back up & is very close with him & was a reference for Arth. Arth was not my first choice but I am going to give him a chance.1 point

Not arguing with you, he also has head coaching experience at John Carroll where he was 40-8. I agree with a lot of what you say and am very concerned but I am going to support him. If it doesn’t work, that could change. Go Zips, maybe since Coach Arth is only 37 he can help us finish the climb. I think it was to much for 62 year old Coach Bowden.1 point

We always have had 1/2 empty arenas this time of year and crowd today was pretty good. But this was handed to us. Last year's team could close out a game better. That being said, this game was lost thru turnovers and crappy rebounding. They need a crunch time player who can make the big play1 point

This hire does nothing for me. I don't get the excitement to hire him. He took over a program that had 10, 9 & 9 wins the three years prior to him and turned that into 3 and 5 wins in his two years. In his second year at the helm he never beat any of the top four teams in his league. Is that the success we want? I would love to know what LW saw in him that was better than Getsy or Kehres. He's our coach now and I'll do all I can to help him be successful, but pardon me if I'm not excited.1 point

Based on that article, the LA deal "never got over the finish line." I really want him to be the Crew Head Coach.1 point

Much different experience this time than 2010. 2010 I agonized over every minute because just once I wanted to see Akron athletics accomplish something really special and didn't know if we'd ever be at that point again. Would have loved to see a second star Sunday of course but not the same kind of agony. I fully believe this program will be entrenched for years to come. I even hedged my bet - I brought my daughter who is a University of Maryland graduate so one of us was going to be happy at the end darn it. :-)1 point

I hope that the zips will play some important soccer before the fall. Teams are allowed to take an international trip once every 4 years. Caleb took a team to Spain. Jared took a team to Brazil in summer 2015. if you remember, the zips in 2014...lost in the round of 64 in a PK Shootout... The 2015 team made it all the way to the college cup. The players on that team credit that trip for great improvement and that they really grew to believe in each other. I hope that there is a 2019 international trip. It is expensive.....but I am confident that the zips alumni and family...will want to help these young men get better. Personally, I am hoping that they go to Portugal......so that Diogo Pacheco and his teammates will get to play in front of his family1 point
