  2. Akron is going to win this tournament if they play with this kind of energy, intensity, and continue the level of bench support (cheerleaders). The guys on the bench haven't sat down, and this team is ready to go.

  3. #1. Incredibly proud that this team, after crashing the last 3 or 4 games, came back and won their biggest game of the year so far. #2. I watched some of the Buffalo game yesterday. They aren't the unstoppable team of the past. They miss some bunnies and can shoot some dud 3 pointers. Also, they aren't great from the foul line. However, like the Zips, they can turn it on and wear you down, especially if they are getting offensive rebounds and keeping our defense on their end of the floor. #3. These tournament games are won by intangibles or one aspect of the game that is really sharp. Zips only had 7 turnovers yesterday but their shooting wasn't great. Tonight something or someone else may pull them over the finish line.

  6. Got scary there for a minute, but the Zips should be proud of how they finished this one out. Great response after briefly losing the lead. On to the next one!

  7. Man if either of these teams plays this way against Buffalo they will get crushed. As poorly as BGSU is playing right now The Zips should be stomping them.

  8. Family and friends only last night. I’m hoping to be joined by many Zips fans in the Rock tonight! (Is that what they call it now?)

  9. Also weird that there were fans. Must've been family, but ESPN definitely showed some people in team gear in the stands. Seemed like more than a few dozen, they were seated in the mid levels behind the basket. Let's hope it's loud tonight. Firmly planning on attending EVERY game in the tournament next season.

  10. There weren't fans allowed yesterday. So it's a good sign that you didn't notice any.

  11. I'm curious how the crowd turns out. Even if it's just 2k or so Zips fans.. that's a nice boost for our guys and a little extra something for UB to deal with that they haven't dealt with all year if we go on a run and the crowd is into it.

  12. As the Maple Leafs forum stated, who steps up behind LCJ? If nobody does, this won't be a game. If Trimble and someone else do, look out. Akron can compete with Canada on the boards; rebounding is more about effort than anything, and few coaches in the MAC coach effort like Groce does.

  13. Some numbers to ponder. Buffalo's top three rebounders are Mballa at 10.4 rpg, Williams at 7 rpg and Graves at 5.9 rpg. The Zips top rebounders are Freeman at 9 rpg, Reece at 4.7 rpg and Ali at 3.4 rpg. Not only are their top 3 ahead statistically, they are usually on the floor together which can't be said about the Zips as Freeman and Reece do not see the floor at the same time.

  16. What a breath of fresh air the DEFENSE and ENERGY was!!!!!! Lord that win felt great! And I've been waiting for Marshall to throw down like that all year, he was superb on defense, the boards, and those 3s were a result of the collective energy and belief of the team. Still far too reliant on one guy, and not having Wynn hurt, but this performance says a lot about this coaching staff. Two weeks ago BG embarrassed us at the JAR, and revenge (albeit closer than it should've been) was served. As far as what we need to see tomorrow: Tribble's game is fine and works if he makes his MF foul shots. He's so good at attacking to draw contact, but can't finish or consistently hit FTs. Like Big Dog used to, he could make a big difference in a game at the foul line. Secondly, I'd like to see Clarke play a bit more aggressively, but that will come with time. Thirdly, Trimble saw the ball go through the net, 3/5 too!! He and the other 3 guys not handling the ball MUST work harder to get him looks. I'd like to see (quality looks of course) at least three more attempts for him in a game like this, we need perimeter shooters to step up NOW. On to the semis baby!!!!! GO ZIPS!!!!!

  18. It feels oh-so-right to finally be back in the MAC semi-finals. This tournament used to be the Akron invitational. Time to get back to that, but Buffalo is really going to be hell tomorrow. I think it was just awesome that Jermaine Marshall came off of the bench tonight almost out of nowhere and became random hero. I love it. I absolutely love it. It's March baybee! He had great energy. Keep it going. Lastly, is it even March without Steve French? I miss making the hour plus trek to Q arena, the gameday chaos and festivities, the nerves, the pregame, screaming/cheering until my voice is hoarse, all of it, and then making the long drive home listening to the French and Dunn postgame, typically after a thrilling victory. End of an era I suppose. Between cliché Reghi and his awful color commentator and the bad zips radio play by play guy, we just sat and watched the game at home without sound lol. I miss the pre-corona world 😫

  19. Well lucky for you their season is over so there isn't much interest here anymore.

  20. I think the crowd tomorrow will be a big Zip crowd and will energize this group. I can’t wait to finally see them play in person!

  22. Especially on a night where we really needed him with no Dailey and no Wynn. Just a daily win. 😁

  23. Whew. On to Buffalo. Plowden has been my favorite non-Zip MAC player the last couple of years. He sure showed his talent tonight.

  28. Hmmm, why would they be missing? Why was Friday's game cancelled?

  29. No Wynn. No Dailey. I think we are seeing why Friday's game didn't happen.

  30. Dailey hasn't started since the OU game. Tribble was in the staring lineup for Buffalo and BG.

  33. Eloquently put. Haha! I really like Larry Williams. He is one of the nicest, most genuine "big wigs" I've come across. I think he's making both the right decision for himself and the University. College athletics are in a horrible, HORRIBLE spot right now. The way the NCAA allowed the conferences to handle their own football seasons set the sport way back and killed a lot of interest with the casual fan. It was the perfect year to test an expansion of the Playoff, and they dropped the ball big time. Embarrassing. I would not want to be a G5 AD. Larry didn't always make the best decisions in terms of the University, but he did bring us Groce, and for that I'm forever grateful. I agree with all previous posters who have stated that we need a scrappy up-and-coming person to really elevate the football program. They also need the right mix below them to market the hell out of Akron athletics. Our marketing B.L.O.W.S. Even our basketball Instagram page looks like the videos were taken with a 1st Generation iPhone, then uploaded using dial-up. Pathetic.

  34. Build a beautiful modern stadium on campus with ample clean restrooms and good modestly priced concessions, with ample cheap/free parking and modestly priced tickets (free to students), and safe comfortable tailgating opportunities. I'm not sure what's so unappealing about all of that.

  36. Enrique Freeman: MAC POY?! ? “Updated MAC basketball statistics on a Sunday morning. Zips Enrique Freeman: #1 in FG %..#1 in rebounding...#1 in blocked shots...#1 in defensive rebounding. Not bad for a walk on!” -Joe Dunn (via Twitter)

  37. You know, every time someone posts a title like: LCJ or ENRIQUE FREEMAN All I can think of is he entered the transfer portal, got hurt, got expelled and so on. Can you just do a better title that won't give me a heart attack?
