Sources: Akron expected to hire Reno Ferri as TE coach. He recruited elite TB Sean Tucker to Syracuse and coached NFL TB Terrrance West at Towson. He’s a former Akron assistant with strong ties to Joe Moorhead. Source: @Pete Thamel5 points

Peter Thamel has the scoop on some of the possible assistants on his Twitter account. Sources: Akron is targeting veteran coach Terry Richardson as RB coach. He’s a former assistant at UConn, Miss State, Maryland, Miami and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He brings a long history with Joe Moorhead. Also wore No. 44 at Syracuse. Sources: Akron is targeting Billy Fessler as the school’s next QB coach. He’s an Ohio State GA, former Joe Moorhead GA at Mississippi State and played QB for Moorhead at Penn State. Non P5 schools need to create their own Bracket Buster event again to help with this. I miss the anticipated payback visit from Nevada, VCU, NDSU, etc. Those were fun.3 points

I will not be in attendance this Thursday. Sorry. Note: ZipsNation.org will get to interview coach Moorhead during spring practices. There will be more interesting information available for ZN members then.3 points

Gift? You're talking to someone who has given maybe 100k to this university and after 30+ years of sports-related horrors I'll bitch and complain about whatever I want!!!!3 points

It's easy to be one of Groce's favorites. Go to class and get passing grades. Buy into the "teamism" idea of being a good team mate and being accountable. Play defense.3 points

DrZ, will you have credentials? We need someone to ask insightful question; GT won't.2 points

Reno is a good hire. Syracuse did have some good talent. They should have won more.1 point

The home OOC schedule is always this bad. That's not the reason attendance is down so much compared to previous years. Covid impacted it in two ways. 1) covid got people out of the habit of going to Zips games. It will probably take years to get some back. 2) Old people (the ones who make up a good chunk of Zips fan base) are highest at risk so take covid more seriously therefore don't want to put themselves at risk attending a game when they can just watch it on TV. The mask mandate honestly is a non-factor. You have to wear it all of 3 minutes from the time you enter the door until the time you get to your seat. I can't see that discouraging anyone from attending.1 point

Not sure where Terry Richardson is, as he's no longer listed on MSU's website and he doesn't have a Wikipedia. However, I wonder if he'd be a candidate for OC. He produced Donald Brown at UCONN, Lamar Miller & Duke Johnson at Miami, and coached Maurice Jones Drew during his stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played for the Bengals & Steelers in the NFL, so he is not a stranger to Ohio/NEO area. Interesting fact: he's the second to last player in Syracuse football history to wear the number 44. He would be an interesting OC candidate, at the very least. Would Terrell Buckley come back to the University of Akron as a DC?1 point

He is off the board Sources: USF is hiring veteran coach Bob Shoop as the school’s new defensive coordinator. source:@PeteThamel1 point

When we get closer to that time can you start a thread for question suggestions?1 point

here's a list of his MSU staff which may be more helpful, certainly more recent- https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mississippi-state-football/mississippi-state-bulldogs-coaching-staff-2019-season-finalizied/ Tony Hughes, Associate Head Coach/Tight Ends (eighth year) Terry Richardson, Assistant Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator/Running Backs (first year) Deke Adams, Defensive Line (first year) Andrew Breiner, Pass Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks (second year) Terrell Buckley, Cornerbacks (fourth year) Marcus Johnson, Offensive Line (second year) Michael Johnson, Wide Receivers (first year) Joey Jones, Special Teams Coordinator (second year) Tem Lukabu, Linebackers (second year) Bob Shoop, Defensive Coordinator/Safeties (second year)1 point

Offense definitely showed up during Marshall. Southern was kind of over matched so really hard to use that game to judge. I feel Trimble is the closest thing we have to a #1 scorer. I expect the offense to do well when he's hot and not so well when he's not. Ideally a little more consistency will be nice.1 point

I think it's good to have at least one logo with the name of the school/city spelled out... that's the best branding/marketing aspect. As for uniforms, I would just use it on the chest where it can be large enough and not cram it onto helmets and in media/scorebugs where it's hard on the eyeballs.1 point

More of a privilege than a right to post on here. They need to rebrand the entire football program and game day experience.1 point

Guthrie mentioned he wanted a former FBS head coach or a current coordinator. Moorhead fit both criteria and I'd assume since Getsy being a QB Coach right now he wasn't really a consideration. With only a few seasons as a coordinator at MSU. Just my guess.1 point
-
The main reason I brought this up is because I feel like we are making a fresh start. I would like to get as far away from the past 3 years as possible. Now is as good a time to rebrand as any. IMHO. This does not take away for enthusiasm for the hiring of Coach Moorhead. Relax1 point

Wentz had only one scholarship offer to an FBS school coming out of high school. That means pretty much everyone missed him. He went to NDSU because he didn't have many options. It happens, some guys get missed because they played at small schools or because things clicked late for them. Josh Allen went to Wyoming. Derek Carr went to Fresno State. Jimmy Garroppolo went to Eastern Illinois. This shows you not all QBs went to P5 programs. Some fall through the cracks. That is fact. To say you have a 0% chance of making it in the NFL if you go to a MAC school is perhaps the worst take I've heard on this forum. Is it a lower percentage than if you went to OSU or Alabama, definitely. But it's not 0%.1 point

I am not on twitter.....so I can't share them. David Trainor had a part 2 and part 3...to his tweet in his 3rd tweet...he wrote this about Larry "the Loser" Williams "He had zero business leading Student-Athletes, or an Athletic Dept."1 point

Congrats and thanks to CG for getting this deal done. Given Coach Mo's goals at this particular juncture of being back within a few hours of Pittsburgh and wanting to rehab/re-hone his head coaching chops at the less intense G5 level, timing and good fortune seem to have smiled upon us. It could have been one of the other MAC East schools or maybe a Marshall, depending on who had an opening at the right time (now). If TA had been given another year, this opportunity might have been missed.1 point

Am I allowed to say that was hard earned and well deserved? Don't get me wrong, I still hate the dirty birds, but I am glad they have found a little success. Someday, we will be where they are now.....1 point
