I'd rather half of their chants not be cursing, though. I don't personally take offense or anything, but we want families bringing their kids back4 points

What the hell?? Love the Rowdies, but If you think they are the "rowdiest" student section in the nation, you must not watch much college bball. A student section showing up and making noise and saying crap isn't "instigating". If it is, many sections across the country are instigators, but the Kent pansies are the only opposing team that can't handle it. The whole team getting in their face and taunting immediately after the buzzer sounds is bullshit. It could've potentially lead to physical altercations between fans and players which isn't a good look for anyone. I'm not crying about it as it makes the rivalry what it is, but just another example of the lack of class that program/university has, and there's nothing wrong with calling it out when it happens. If Akron players did that I honestly would be embarrassed.3 points

Love the Rowdies. Best student turnout and participation I’ve ever seen at the JAR, that felt like old times. I do not believe Kent is better than Akron, but they are tougher physically and they’ve played their best two games of the year against Akron. I’m hoping Akron has this same mentality in every game moving forward. Trimble was getting at it with Carry, Dawson was a junkyard dog, Freeman played one of the best halves of Akron basketball ever. It’s just a tough matchup for Akron for whatever reason. And props to Carry and Santiago. They answered the bell every time they needed to and Akron came away with a close L after a ton of missed opportunities. Akron is tough and resilient, they just lack that killer instinct like I said. When we were down 1 or 2, if Trimble would’ve buried the deep right wing three he took I think we would’ve won it. But X made a play then made a bad one. If he kicks it to Ali, fake gangster Carry is going home with his tail between his legs. Great effort. Hate to lose, absolutely brutal to be swept, but Kent played a near perfect game and Akron didn’t. On to WMU. Enjoy your weekends everyone, that was a ton of fun. Go Zips!3 points

Zips are now 0-4 against the three teams ahead of them in the standings with two of those games at the JAR. Not a good sign. 🤨3 points

I thought it was a great game even though we lost. We had a chance to win it at the end but failed to execute. Groce said post game that it was a 2 man game with Ali and X and that he thought X should have passed it to Ali. We also had a terrible possession at the end of the half. Our team has had problems when we have to hold the ball for the last shot. X does not have that explosive quickness to get to the basket like LCJ. I thought the main difference was that Kent shot the 3 ball better than we did. Tribble and Clark both air balled wide open 3 points attempts. We also had several possessions where we struggled to shoot the ball before the time clock expired. Remember, this is the first winnable game that we came out on the losing end. I was hoping that X would pass the ball to an open man for a winning 3 ball. Finally, I could care less about the Kent team getting in the faces of our students. Hey, that student section is great and it just shows that they were getting on the nerves of the Kent players. If the teams meet in Cleveland it will be another toss up. I thought we were very physical and did not back down from the Kent players. Great crowd. I think we had about 90% capacity. Best college atmosphere in 2 years.3 points

As a student it sucks to have Kent dudes in your face like that. But we asked for it all game. We talked that talk all game and what more do you want?!?! The student turnout was amazing. We lost and deserved that to happen. Regardless, it would be hilarious to see those guys suspended. All in all, see you pussies in cleveland. Cant emphasize how much of pussies those dudes are3 points

Excellent post. If the players, students, alumni, fans and greater community are not part of the rivalry, it's a pathetic rivalry. Again, Akron hates Kent. Kent hates Akron. I envy those of you who were able to attend the game tonight and be part of this great rivalry. Instead of telling Kent players to stay classy, I'd love to tell those dimwits, "See you pu$$y-a$$ beatches in Cleveland in a few weeks." While flipping the bird. The 1950s are over.3 points

I have no problem with it either. Good to see in a rivalry. As Jim Harbaugh would say this akron team "is a finesse team, not a physical/tough team." They stood back and watched it happen.3 points

I love all this stuff. These teams don’t like each other. These schools don’t like each other. These fan bases don’t like each other. I want both teams talking sh!t and playing rough. Not throwing punches like Singletary, but tip-toeing into dirty is fine by meThe Rowdies we’re AWESOME last night & then the KSUcks players let them know they just beat us at the end. The KSUcks players earned the right to do that & the Rowdies were forced to take it. That’s what makes epic rivalries. Let’s stop being church ladies (not you specifically @1981 grad, just everyone in general) This all adds to the fun and memories. Those AK Rowdies will never forget that and because of it will hate KSUcks and bleed blue & gold for the test of their lives. I’ve LOVED the Rowdies this season and the student turnout last night was phenomenal. Makes me VERY hopeful for future seasons.: we’re growing something. Toward the end of the game when Insincere was shooting two free throws (both of which he made, to his credit) I could hardly hear myself think! Outside of Cameron Indoor, that is the toughest student-led atmosphere you could hope for. Loved everything about it.2 points

The foul is stupid, but this is the stuff I'm ok with. Get chippy. Get under their skin. Take your little shots - just don't cross the line. This is keeping the rivalry on the court.2 points

He did. Just prior to tip off he did a really nice job getting the crowd pumped up. He mentioned bringing the Wagon Wheel back to Akron, that the crowd was great, had great energy and that we'd need that at the football games this Fall. Then he started a "Let's Go Zips," chant. He did a really nice job.2 points

I personally think Rocky Lombardi (QB) was the biggest factor in the turnaround. The game at or towards the end of the season when they sat him and got blown out was telling. With that said, Irons has potential. How anyone says he doesn’t is beyond me, he was 13-13 and a TD against a mix of starters and back ups for Auburn. That’s impressive no matter who you are. He obviously needs to take better care of the ball though. Bring in a veteran QB in to compete with him (and as insurance since he is a bit injury prone) and may the best man win.2 points

The Zips head off to Kalamazoo Tuesday to face the Broncos and the MAC's leading scorer, Duquesne transfer Lamar Norman Jr. Heading into tonight's game against CMU, the Broncos stand at 4-20 and are 0-13 in the MAC. The Broncos gave the Zips a run for their money at the JAR on January 18th, falling 74-73. In that game, Ali Ali scored 18 points and scored with 5.4-seconds left to complete an incredible 11-0 Zips run in the last couple of minutes. Norman and guard B. Artis White led the Broncos in the game totaling 42 points.1 point

Absolutely. We are a guard away from being the best team in the MAC. We have 2 more years of Freeman, 3(?) more years of Aziz, 3 more years of Kalle, etc. This program is in a much better position.1 point

Yeah, the dude is messed up in the head for sure. I have some close Solon friends who are not big fans of him. But as of right now, he’s the winner. And he’s brought back a lot of the good things about this rivalry. Still putting all of my stock in Groce and Akron over Kent and Pinky this year and in the future.1 point
-
When he bailed on KD it was just about a done deal for him to come to Akron. Then Pinky got a phone call one day from him asking if he could play at Kent so he could be with his high school sweetheart on the women’s team. Then he committed to Kent and UA called up KD and said what gives? KD was shocked. Yet another example of Pinky lucking into success.1 point

Another thing that pains me greatly to say. Carry is a killer. We'd be tops on the MAC if we had a Carry1 point
-
I’d say I’d love to see Akron do that after winning at Kent, but: 1. Kent has no fans at games anymore that they would do this to 2. The only students at Kent games anymore are the band, which might be the worst in America Why would anyone be surprised at what happened? That program had a 5 year player punch a teammate last year. Sendy is a good recruiter and nothing more. Hell, he didn’t even recruit Carry! Again, the loss hurts, but it’s cute to see Kent do that, just like it was cute to see their .500 football team parade the Wagon Wheel around infocision after beating the D3 assistant coach of the year.1 point

As one could probably tell by my constant posting during the game, I wasn't able to attend due to a variety of reasons, but noticed Moorhead and other members of the staff were there. Did he speak to the crowd at all?1 point

Didn't they sweep the regular season in 2010-11, and we beat them in the MAC Tourney? Dancing on Porini! Dancing on Porini!1 point

IDGAF about any of the stats to be honest, this team fights hard, but they arent as good as years past. Sure, we know that. Last time I checked, nothing matters until Cleveland. Kent can win 100 times until then, knock yourselves out. March is where champions are made1 point

I like it. Those Rowdies are never going to forget that & it, yet again, just more solidifies this as literally one of the best, most intense rivalries in the nation. Having said that, our offense is like pulling teeth.1 point

Trying to be the voice of reason here. Let's all agree it was classless...but warranted due to actions in the student section throughout the game. Two wrongs don't equal 1 write ... but let's not act like this wasn't instigated by Akron, ... and Kent took the bait. Classless on both sides, .....1 point

I think I saw Seny Ndiaye at tonight's game. He's a 6-11 center from WVU who's in the transfer portal. He's originally from Sengal but played his HS ball at Huntington Prep in WV.1 point

Refs stunk. Both ways, not a complaint of why we lost or anything. But the first half was basically swallowed whistles/let them play, and second half complete opposite. I've never seen so many ticky tack offensive fouls off the ball. Just be consistent1 point

By the way, you're almost never going to beat a team that shoots 58.8% from 3 on 17 attempts. And we almost did.1 point

To me, just an unacceptable performance. No excuse for starting out like they did in a rivalry game at home. Dug a hole they couldn't crawl out of. Terrible performances by our guards, especially compared to the Flushes. 🤬1 point

Not liking much of anything. Kent looks like a much tougher and smooth team. Totally out classing the Zips.1 point
